Is it possible to complete all loyalty missions and save Kelly?

I'm playing through Mass Effect 2 again, and I've never figured out how to get everyone out of the suicide mission alive. The Collectors always raid the Normandy when I've got one loyalty mission left to do (usually Legion's).

If I don't leave immediately after that, I arrive too late to save Kelly. But if I don't have all the loyalty missions completed, one of the team ends up dead. Is this a sadistic choice, like the Kaidan/Ashley thing from the first game, or is there a way to make sure everyone survives, including Kelly?

Yes, it's possible. You need to finish all loyalty missions (except for Legion's) before going to the derelict Reaper. After getting back from the derelict Reaper, you are allowed time for exactly one mission before the Collectors invade Normandy (which should be Legion's loyalty mission). Once they've been removed from the ship, you must go directly to the Omega Relay if you want to save all of your crew.

It's entirely possible to save absolutely everyone without completing every single loyalty mission - see also this question .

After you get the IFF and legion you will be able to do 2, maybe 3 missions before the collectors attacked, to get everyone to survive, you must complete everyone's loyalty mission (except legion's which you can complete after), and use the Omega 4 relay just after the collector attack to have a chance at getting everyone out alive.

I play it many times and after you recruit Legion, you have 2 missions left until the collectors raid the Normandy. I always leave just Tali's mission incomplete until I get Legion. I take him on her loyalty mission, then his(Legion) mission becomes available. After I do his mission, the collectors come. If you are in satisfied about your ending, save before you acquire the reaper IFF.

Yeah you can but I highly suggest you activate Legion before accessing the galaxy map or the abduction will start and after do your loyalty for Legion at this point you lost half of your crew so yeah just after the Derelict Reaper mission activate Legion as fast as you can so you can do his LM before the crew's abduction hoped it helped

Gaining the Mass Effect 2 loyalty of your crew is an essential part of your adventure, at least if you want to complete the final Suicide Mission in a way that's successful for as many of them as possible. There are over a dozen characters that you can recruit in this second part of the Mass Effect Legendary Edition , completing missions with them to earn their fealty, and you'll need to know the right decisions to make along the way so you can weave them all into a close-knit squad ready for the final push. To help with this, we've got a complete rundown on how the Mass Effect 2 loyalty missions work, along with the actions required so you can get the best possible outcomes for everyone.

Find out what the best Mass Effect 2 weapons are for your playstyle and where to find them.

As members are recruited to your squad their Mass Effect 2 loyalty missions become available, though you usually need to complete a regular mission or assignment first before each loyalty mission can be accessed. Completing the loyalty mission for a squad member will make them loyal to Shepard, which increases their chance of survival if you make the right choices during the Suicide Mission and can impact on the Mass Effect 2 endings , as well as unlocking an alternate outfit and their bonus power. This bonus power can then be learned and used by Shepard, by purchasing the Advanced Training research project, though you can only have one active bonus power at a time.

Below we've listed the Mass Effect 2 loyalty missions in the order they become available, along with the bonus powers you unlock for the characters by completing them. This comes with the caveat that if a certain character has not been recruited to your squad yet then their loyalty mission is skipped over, but it comes up next in the rotation once they join as a crew member:

  • Jacob Taylor: The Gift of Greatness - Barrier
  • Miranda Lawson: The Prodigal - Slam
  • Jack: Subject Zero - Warp Ammo
  • Mordin Solus: Old Blood - Neural Shock
  • Grunt: Rite of Passage - Fortification
  • Garrus Vakarian: Eye for an Eye - Armor-Piercing Ammo
  • Samara: The Ardat-Yakshi - Reave (or Morinth - Dominate)
  • Tali'Zorah vas Neema: Treason - Energy Drain
  • Thane Krios: Sins of the Father - Shredder Ammo
  • Legion: A House Divided - Geth Shield Boost

Mass Effect 2 loyalty

There are also the following three loyalty missions that were originally DLC, and can be accessed as soon as the relevant character is recruited to your crew:

  • Zaeed Massani: The Price of Revenge - Inferno Grenade
  • Kasumi Goto: Stealing Memory - Flashbang Grenade
  • Liara T'Soni: Lair of the Shadow Broker - Stasis (completing this mission unlocks the Stasis power but Liara does not join your crew)

Mass Effect 2 loyalty

Bear in mind that in some circumstances, there are decisions or actions you can take during a loyalty mission that stop the squad member from becoming loyal, even if you complete the mission. These are the ones you need to watch out for:

  • Samara: The Ardat-Yakshi - If you don't keep Morinth's attention she will leave the club, so Samara cannot capture her and will not become loyal. If you side with Morinth then Samara will be killed, then replaced on the crew by Morinth who will be loyal and unlock her bonus power instead of Samara's.
  • Tali'Zorah vas Neema: Treason - If you provide evidence that Tali's father was guilty of treason, she will not become loyal.
  • Thane Krios: Sins of the Father - If you don't update Thane while using the catwalks to track Joram Talid, Kolyat will assassinate Talid and Thane will not become loyal.
  • Zaeed Massani: The Price of Revenge - If you save the workers then Zaeed will not become loyal, unless you can use the high Charm option at the conclusion of the mission.

Mass Effect 2 loyalty

There will also be confrontations between squad members onboard the Normandy immediately after certain pairs of loyalty missions have been completed, which you'll need to resolve. These are:

  • Miranda Lawson: The Prodigal and Jack: Subject Zero
  • Tali'Zorah vas Neema: Treason and Legion: A House Divided

If you have a high enough Paragon or Renegade score then a Charm or Intimidate option will be available to diffuse the situation and keep both of the crew happy, however if that isn't accessible (or you choose not to use it) then you'll need to side with one member and lose the loyalty of the other. Losing a squad member's loyalty in this way does not prevent access to their alternate outfit or bonus power, and while it is possible to regain this lost loyalty later with another Charm or Intimidate option if available during conversations, any Mass Effect 2 romance you were pursuing with them cannot be rekindled.

Mass Effect 2 Mission Order: optimal DLC, dossier, loyalty quest sequence

Just like its predecessor, Mass Effect 2 has an open-ended story that lets you tackle its various objectives in a relatively open-ended manner - and that means some people are inevitably going to be struck wondering what the best mission order for ME2 might look like. 

Just like our suggestions on the ME1 mission order , any list you’ll find from us or anyone else online is merely a suggestion - but there are definitely certain missions that work better than others in certain places within ME2’s story. On top of that, there’s also more DLC missions in this game than its predecessor, and slotting those into the story is… quite difficult, honestly.

On this page, we proffer our suggestion for the optimum sequence of story missions and events in Mass Effect 2. Simple!


Mass Effect 2 Mission Order: optimal order for recruitment, loyalty & DLC missions

The basic structure of Mass Effect 2 is pretty simple. It starts you off with a string of prologue missions where it’ll ferry you from event to event, including two story mission planets that have combat encounters and even an early mini boss battle of sorts. After that, you’ll get your ship - and this is where the game opens up.

From here on out, ME2 is broken into segments. You get your ship and a smattering of story ‘recruitment’ missions to build your team. After recruiting all the available team members, you will automatically go to the story planet of Horizon for a mandatory story interlude. After that, you’ll get more missions. After finishing five of those, you’ll have another mandatory story mission. From there, you can complete whatever you like to the end.

No missions are mandatory, but towards the end of the game taking on too many side missions & optional assignments after a time-sensitive story event can have a negative impact on the end of the game. This guide avoids that, but check out our Mass Effect 2 Suicide Mission & endings guide for more detailed information on how to avoid that. 

Below is our suggested mission order. While we've built in a few breaks where we suggest you tackle side missions and scan planets for resources, we also recommend you do this as often as you like throughout the game to break things up. The only exception is once you get the Reaper IFF - before doing that, you should complete absolutely everything you need to.

Remember that the mission order presented on this page is just a suggestion; deviate from it as much as you like.

Act 1 Mission Order: Cerberus and Building a Team

  • Prologue: Awakening & Freedom’s Progress: as mentioned above, for the first few hours of the game, things will play out in a linear fashion. Just complete all the missions until you get your ship.
  • Return to the Citadel: while you have pressing matters to deal with on Omega, first direct the Normandy back to the Citadel. Here you can meet with Anderson, announce your return, potentially get your Spectre status back, shop at stores including for some Normandy side quest items, complete a few other side quests.
  • Dossier: The Master Thief:  while on the Citadel, you should also immediately recruit Kasumi, if you've got access to her DLC.
  • Omega intro & side activities: once you've visited the Citadel, head to your originally suggested destination, Omega. Here you'll need to speak to Aria to learn more about the next few story missions, shop at stores, and generally get to know the area.
  • Dossier: The Veteran:  as soon as you land on Omega, you can and should also immediately recruit Zaeed, 
  • Dossier: The Professor: after speaking to Aria, you'll have all the info you need to undertake two different recruitment missions on Omega. Recruit the Professor first. 
  • Early DLC Adventures Firewalker & Crash Site: leave Omega and head out into space. There’s a few things you should do out here:
  • Normandy Crash Site: this is a short and simple DLC quest that was originally a pre-order bonus. It’s got decent rewards, and some nice ME1 fanservice.
  • Project Firewalker: this DLC will take you to several places and give you access to a vehicle that otherwise isn't used in the core ME2 story. It's worth getting this quest out of the way here, and early, as it has good rewards.
  • Kasumi's Loyalty Mission - Stealing Memory: this is Kasumi's loyalty mission, and we're making it the first of these missions we do primarily because it has some great rewards and resources, including the best SMG Mass Effect 2 has to offer. If your choice of character class relies on the SMG, do this mission now. Otherwise, you can bump it back to after recruiting Archangel. 
  • Dossier: Archangel: also on Omega, you can complete a mission to recruit the mysterious crusading mercenary Archangel. You can actually do this before or after the next step, but since you're already at Omega, it's easy to do it right after the previous recruitment mission.
  • Planet Scanning & Material Gathering break: a big part of ME2 is scanning planets and gathering materials. The amount of materials you have can impact ME3, as can the upgrades you've purchased for your ship. With Mordin in the science bay, you'll have your first unlocks available - so take some time to scan some planets and gather some resources. You're free to tackle any side missions you discover if you want, or you can save them for later.
  • Dossier: The Convict: your team currently lacks a dedicated Biotic - so to fill that mage-shaped hole in your ME2 squad, go recruit Jack next.
  • Dossier: The Warlord: next, go and grab Grunt, Mass Effect 2's Krogan squad member. After completing the mission, he doesn't automatically join your party - go and get him on the lower floors of the Normandy if you want to have him join the crew properly.
  • Horizon [automatic]: after all of the current batch of recruitment missions is complete, you'll be forced to tackle a mission on Horizon.

Act 2 Mission Order: Old Friends & Loyalties

  • Dossier: Tali: she's been off your team for too long - is it really the Normandy without her aboard? Go get Tali. If Kal’Reegar survives, it’ll make Tali’s later loyalty mission easier.
  • Visiting Illium: for a nice change of scenery, head to Illium, the next hub planet and home to another recruit. Catch up with Liara, but do not take her up on the offer to help her with the Shadow Broker after completing her short side quest. We'll save that for later. There's other side quests you can do on Illium also, plus new shops and so on.
  • OPTIONAL // Lair of the Shadow Broker (Give Liara Intel):  we don't really like this mission in this position, but you've got two choices - do it here to get significant rewards for the rest of the game, or save it for the post-game where it fits best for story. The choice is yours. If you do it here, Liara becomes an easy source of free upgrades and resources, with new ones added every time you complete a main story quest.
  • Dossier: The Assassin: complete this mission to recruit Thane. There’s a cool ME1 callback here if you did a certain side quest.
  • Dossier: The Justicar: a straightforward quest with no major consequences down the line. It gets you Samara.
  • Scanning, Materials & Upgrades break: while you can do side quests whenever you like, this is another ideal period to take a load off and do any side content, scanning planets, and purchasing any upgrades you can afford. Major story events are coming, so it’s good to be prepared.
  • Visiting Tuchanka: you heard a lot about the Krogan homeworld of Tuchanka in the first Mass Effect, but now you can experience it. There’s all the normal hub world distractions here, plus a chance to reunite with a friend if they survived ME1. 
  • Mordin’s Loyalty Mission - Old Blood: while on Tuchanka, undertake Mordin’s loyalty quest. This is a quest whose repercussions will echo loudly in ME3 , so consider your choices carefully.
  • Grunt’s Loyalty Mission - Rite of Passage: While you’re on Tuchanka, also undertake Grunt’s loyalty mission. Be sure to bring another squadmate with a high damage output on this one, like Zaeed. You only have to survive the battle for 5 minutes, but if you successfully kill the beast you’ll get an even better reward. 
  • Collector Vessel [automatic]: like Horizon, this is a generally story-advancing mission that’ll trigger automatically after you’ve logged five missions post-Horizon. You’ll also be able to pick a weapon specialization here. 

Act 3 Mission Order: Loyalties Secured 

  • Jacob’s Loyalty Mission - The Gift of Greatness: this is a straightforward mission.
  • Miranda’s Loyalty Mission - The Prodigal: another straightforward mission, with choices that will be minorly referenced in ME3.
  • Garrus’ Loyalty Mission - Eye for an Eye: help Garrus get his revenge.
  • Thane’s Loyalty Mission - Sins of the Father: you must stay close to your target and get the information you ended at the end. 
  • Samara’s Loyalty Mission - The Ardat-Yakshi: you must successfully lure Morinth and not lose her in order to obtain loyalty.
  • To get the best ending of this mission, both Kal’Reegar and Veetor must have survived the earlier Tali missions & be present.
  • Jack’s Loyalty Mission - Subject Zero: after completing this simple mission, Jack and Miranda will have a fight. You must resolve it with a Paragon or Renegade dialogue option to keep both of them loyal; taking a side revokes one character’s loyalty.
  • Zaeed’s Loyalty Mission - The Price of Revenge: at the end of the mission, you must make a choice between Zaeed’s wishes and innocent lives. Renegade Shepard can easily side with Zaeed and get his loyalty; Paragon Shepard must pass a difficult check to talk him down and keep him loyal.
  • Project Overlord: this DLC is a multi-mission series and brings back the vehicle from the Firewalker DLC. It also has minor repercussions in ME3, depending on the coices you make.
  • The Point of No Return: at this point, you should have one story mission on your plate - the Reaper IFF. Once you tackle this mission, it’s a rollercoaster ride to the end - so make sure you have all character loyalties, Normandy upgrades, have completed side missions, and done everything you want to do on hub planets. Treat starting the Reaper IFF Mission as ME2's point of no return .

ME2 Ending & Postgame

  • IMPORTANT NOTE:  after acquiring the Reaper IFF, you can only trigger two specific missions without incurring negative consequences - Legion's Loyalty Mission and Tali's Loyalty Mission. If you take on ANY OTHER MISSION, some of Normandy's crew will die during the Suicide Mission. Do not travel to any other location other than those two missions, not even to scan planets . 
  • Tali’s Loyalty Mission - Treason: as well as being a mission you can fail, the outcome has major repercussions in ME3. If you didn't do this mission earlier, you can now do it here and take Legion along for the ride, resulting in some very unique dialogue. To get the best ending of this mission, both Kal’Reegar and Veetor must have survived the earlier Tali missions & be present.
  • Legion’s Loyalty Mission - A House Divided: complete this loyalty mission. At the end, Tali and Legion will end up in conflict. As with Jack and Miranda, use the Paragon or Renegade dialogue option to end the argument without losing either’s loyalty.
  • The Suicide Mission: after some story events that begin the next time you access the Galaxy Map, you’ll finally undertake the ME2 finale. Head through the Omega 4 Relay - and brush up on how to get the best ending with our ME2 Suicide Mission walkthrough . After the game is over, load up your completed game to tackle two DLC missions best experienced post-game.
  • Lair of the Shadow Broker / Give Liara Intel: go back to Illium and finally talk to Liara about starting this mission. While this DLC mission will be on your galaxy map from early on and you'll have to actively avoid starting it on your earlier visit to Illium, it works best as a coda to ME2 in our opinion. It’s arguably the best mission in the game; enjoy it! 
  • Arrival: this DLC was the last released for ME2, and basically is a little mini prologue to Mass Effect 3. It actually becomes available any time after Horizon, but it totally fits best into the story if you do it here, at the very end of ME2. After it’s complete, save - and move on to ME3 - which we also have an ME3 mission order guide for, too!

This is more of a misunderstanding. There is some truth interwoven into what you say here.


If you choose to do missions after your crew is abducted (not your squad, I'm talking about the nameless crew that run the Normandy, Kelly, and Dr. Chakwas) then you will not be able to save them all from the Collector Base. Doing 1 mission post-abduction will kill half the crew, and any more missions will result in the entire crew's death, sans Chakwas. When I say 'missions' I mean anything that yields an Illusive Man Mission Complete screen upon its conclusion.

In addition, obviously not doing squadmembers' loyalty missions prior to the Suicide Mission will leave them unloyal, and your chances of losing people in the Collector Base assault are increased. Careful planning and knowledge of how the SM mechanics operate can circumvent this problem, but first-timers and non-lurkers likely won't know the deal. Hence, if people die on the SM, they won't have a loyalty mission to complete after it's over now will they? tardy.

Yeah, if you've upgraded the ship shields, armor and cannon and everyone's loyal, it sounds like you're good to go.

How do I finish every Loyalty mission on Mass Effect 2?

After I finished Mordin & Grunt loyalty mission. I have to go on a collector ship and I thought I wonder how do I finish every loyalty mission before hitting the collector base? Haven’t recruited three more dossiers yet.

The name "Suicide Mission" isn't just a catchy title. Every member of your squad is in jeopardy during this operation. And you could end the mission with none of them alive. Of course, you want to avoid that, as these are your closest allies. So, here's everything you need to do to give your team a chance of living through the dangerous escapade.

There are two very important things to know as a prerequisite for attempting the final mission if you plan on keeping everyone alive.

First, the Normandy needs to be outfitted with several ship upgrades in order to survive the approach through the Omega-4 Relay. Secondly, Shepard will need full loyalty from every squad member .

One or two can be unloyal , but then you'll need some luck on your side to get everyone through the mission safely.

To unlock the ship upgrades, Shepard will need to talk to each of his squadmates on the Normandy between main missions. When talking to them, select the I nvestigate option, then [NORMANDY UPGRADES] .

Doing this will reveal the appropriate upgrade in the Tech Lab terminal . While every squad member will give you an upgrade in the Tech Lab, only three of them are necessary to survive the approach through the Omega-4 Relay:

Squad Loyalty

To give your squadmates the best chance to survive the remainder of the mission, you will need their loyalty , which requires that Shepard gets to know them, and helps them when called upon.

The easiest way to establish loyalty is to talk to every squad member between story missions . Exhaust all dialogue options every time you talk to them and eventually, they will ask Shepard to help them with a personal matter.

Loyalty missions work much like any other mission and flesh out the backstory for each crew member as you explore the galaxy. After you complete a loyalty mission for a squadmate, an orange ring will appear underneath their character model on the squad selection screen to indicate their loyalty to you.

However, there will be a couple of times when the loyalty of your squadmates is in jeopardy. This happens when two of them get into an argument. These are the fights that occur:

After doing both of their loyalty missions, Miranda and Jack will get into an aggressive dispute, putting you in the middle. You must have a lot of Paragon or Renegade points to not take a side. Otherwise, you will lose the loyalty of the person you side against. If you're forced to pick one, and only care about everyone living through the suicide mission, then side with Jack. This is because Miranda is among the hardest characters to kill during the operation.

Tali and Legion also have a difference of opinion. Once again, you must have enough Paragon or Renegade points to defuse the issue. Thankfully, this one is easier to solve. If you still don't have enough points, though, you must pick a side. And you've just got to hope the person that you don't pick still survives.

As long as you have purchased the Heavy Ship Armor , Multicore Shielding , and Thanix Cannon for the Normandy, you have nothing to worry about once you pass through the Omega-4 Relay heading to the Collector Base.

As soon as you finish the sequence in the Normandy cargo hold and land on the Collector Base, you have some important decisions to make .

Unless stated otherwise, everyone you pick for a role needs to be loyal for it to go well.

Phase 1 - Tech Specialist Selection

For the first main part of the Suicide Mission, you will need a Tech Expert to travel through the ventilation shaft in order to open some doors from the other side. Jacob is a woefully naive volunteer, but you really only have three choices here:

  • Tali - Mechanical genius even among the advanced engineers of the quarians.
  • Kasumi - Master thief and unmatched infiltration specialist.
  • Legion - It possesses the collective memory of the entire geth, and has the unmatched technical expertise of a sentient machine that can be used with calculated proficiency.

You can choose any of these three as the tech specialist, but choosing anyone else (including Jacob) will result in them dying .

Phase 1 - Fireteam Leader Specialist Selection

It is important that you select a squad member with natural leadership qualities since most of your squad won't listen to the "lone wolf" types. You have three options here:

  • Garrus - Veteran officer of Citadel Security who quit to lead his own elite military group within the Terminus Systems to combat crime at its source.
  • Miranda - She can move effortlessly from formidable biotic and superior soldier to brilliant tactician and vigilant guardian.
  • Jacob - A seasoned combat professional and veteran of the Alliance military.

Selecting anyone else for this role will result in your tech specialist dying .

Proceed through the gauntlet of enemies, being mindful of the meter at the bottom of the screen. You will need to release several valves in the next few chambers before the meter empties, or your tech specialist will die .

Phase 2 - Biotic Specialist Selection

Once your tech specialist and fireteam leader get your squad through the doors, you will come across pods of colonists and your abducted crew from the Normandy. At this point, you will need to choose a biotic specialist to get your squad through the seeker swarms. Miranda claims that technically any biotic can accomplish this feat, but she is a liar.

You have three choices for this task:

  • Jack - She was subjected to experimental drugs and illegal medical procedures as a child to enhance her already prodigious biotic talents.
  • Samara - An honored and feared asari justicar, her incredible biotic powers have been honed into a devastating weapon.
  • Morinth - She is Samara's daughter and equal to her mother in biotic power. So, if you choose her over Samara during the Justicar's loyalty mission, you can safely pick her for this role.

Sadly, these three biotics are the only ones capable of surviving the seeker swarms , as the other biotics on your team don't possess strong enough abilities, despite what Miranda says.

Phase 2 - Second Squad Leader Specialist Selection

Just like the first time you chose the fireteam leader, you will need someone with a knack for being in a leadership role . You have three choices here , and you can even choose the same one as last time if you want:

  • Miranda - She can move effortlessly from formidable biotic and superior soldier to brilliant tactician and vigilant guardian. Even an unloyal Miranda succeeds in this role.

Phase 2 - Crew Escort Selection

A shuttle will come to rendezvous with the crew, and you can choose to either escort them with someone from your squad or let them go it alone .

You can technically choose anyone from your team to escort them, but it is highly recommended you choose Mordin , unless you plan on keeping him in your personal squad (more on this later).

Choosing to let the crew head to the shuttle alone will result in the crew dying .

Phase 3 - Final Battle And Suicide Squad Selection

Once you get through the next few rooms with seeker swarms, you will need to select a squad to go with you into the last fight and leave everyone else to hold the door in a last stand against the Collectors.

This decision is interesting as it's more about who you don't choose . This is because, as long as they're loyal, anyone you bring with you will survive. But if you take all the heavy hitters, then the team holding the line will have problems.

As such, it's best if you take two of your squishier squadmates into the last fight because they are the most at risk when left with the ground team. If you didn't send Mordin as the crew escort, you need to bring him with you here , as he almost always dies. If you want some bonus dialogue for the end of the game, bring Miranda with you.

Here's a ranking of all your teammates, from 'you should choose them for your last squad' to 'don't choose them for your last squad.'

His Incinerate, Cryo Blast, and Neural Shock abilities are some of the most useful in the game against organic targets.

Warp Ammo is possibly one of the best abilities in the whole game, especially when applied to the team, and Shockwave is great for toppling enemies that get too close.

Kasumi's Shadow Strike ability is great for attacking distracted enemies, and Overload can stun and chain to multiple enemies if evolved correctly.

Her Combat Drone ability is very useful in distracting the Collectors from your squad.

Her Overload ability is useful for stunning enemies if you've evolved it to chain to multiple targets, and Warp is devastating to biotic barriers.

Incendiary Ammo is a major buff if you've evolved it to apply to the whole squad, and Pull is handy for dispatching un-armored enemies.

Her Reave ability is useful for damaging enemies over time and Warp will make short work of Collectors' barriers and armor.

She has the standard biotic attacks for moving people around, such as Pull and Throw. The woman can also make organics fight for you with Dominate.

If you've unlocked the Widow Anti-Material rifle for him, Legion is devastating on the battlefield from the rear.

One of the squishier members of the team, Thane is most useful with his Shredder Ammo applied to the squad, since it does extra damage to organics.

You can include one, but not two of these as your final battle squad (choosing two will almost guarantee a relief team member's death):

Zaeed is a brute, and his Inferno Grenade is helpful for covering a good-sized area with fire, causing damage over time.

Another great sniper, Garrus' Concussive Shot is great for knocking down weak enemies, and Armor-Piercing ammo is helpful when applied to the whole team.

A tank on the battlefield, Grunt is useful to send out against mobs of weaker enemies when using the Fortification ability. He also has Incendiary Ammo that can be applied to the team.

If you followed all the steps in this guide, your squad will likely come out of the horrifying final battle unscathed , prepared to take on the Reaper threat in Mass Effect 3.

So, I'm in the process of a new playthrough, and I want to bring Legion to Tali's trial, but I don't want to get any Normandy crew liquefied in the process. Or lose Tali or Legion on the Suicide Mission. I figure I can pull off the Suicide Mission with just Tali loyal, because Legion has a decent Hold the Line score, and Tali...doesn't. Is it possible to do Tali's Loyalty Mission after picking up Legion, and then save Legion's for post-Collectors?

You can do both loyalty missions between getting Legion and the Collectors' attacking. I did it just a few weeks ago.

You get time for one mission before you have to go after the crew. *Except* the game gives you leeway for doing Legion's loyalty mission as well. If one of the two missions is Legion's loyalty mission then you should be able to do both Tali and Legion before going after the Collectors. I'm fairly sure I've had this work for me in the past, and I'm fairly sure that in other games when one of the two missions wasn't Legion's loyalty mission, it didn't work. So I think that's the deciding factor - the game gives you a little leeway for the loyalty mission of the shiny new character you just got. But if you're worried and would rather just get after the Collectors, then you can do loyalty missions after the Suicide Mission, and you can get through the Suicide mission with un-loyal characters and everyone alive, provided you make the right choices.

It's also possible to not recruit Tali until after the Suicide mission. After the Horizon mission, you have five missions until the Collector ship mission. Then you have as much time as you want until the mission to the collector base. You can recruit Tali after the collector base mission and bring Legion. Don't quote me on this, though, this is just a theory.

So, this is weird. In every previous playthrough, I've done Legion's loyalty mission following the Collector Ship and then my crew gets abducted. This time around, I was planning to let my crew suffer some losses, in order to see what happened and to take Legion on Tali's mission too. I just did Tali's mission, and... nothing. I can go to the star map. Is this a PS3 thing, or is it that you only get two missions if someone's loyalty is still contested?  

Sounds like a bug, you should be able to do as many missions as you want after the crew is abducted (the penalty being that they get liquified of course).

This phase of the suicide mission will begin after you complete the events immediately following your passage through the Omega 4 Relay , after you assign a tech expert and secondary squad leader.

To recap, the ideal tech experts include Tali and Legion, while the most qualified secondary squad leaders are Garrus, Jacob and Miranda - but only if they’re loyal. We recommend Tali and Jacob, respectively.

When you have control of your primary team, head down the ramp nearby and into the Collector base, follow the winding pathway around until it empties out into a large open room. Kill the three Collector Drones in the room to the right here and the reinforcements that arrive soon after. Move to the other end of the room and you will receive a communication from your team member in the vents telling you there is an obstruction in the vent. Move into the room opposite the entrance and use the green valve (1/8) here to assist.

Open the first valve to start a timer - you’ll have to continue to open valves so your tech expert can progress.

Move to the right of the valve and look down the ramp to the left. There are three Collector Drones here and one of these will become Harbinger. You didn’t think it would be that easy, did you? Once they are defeated, move down and vault the cover here. Hit the green valve (2/8) on the left and as you do, more Collectors will fly onto the platform from the right and unsurprisingly enough, one of these guys will become Harbinger. Once they have been capped, continue along the pathway here; hit the green valve (3/8) here and vault up into the raised area at the end. It’s always a good idea to kill any Collectors that arrive before hitting the valves, especially on Insanity difficulty where you will need more time.

Activate green valve (4/8) in this room. Continue to the right and take cover as you turn into another open area. Below and to the right, a group of 6-7 Collector Drones will be waiting for you and one will become Harbinger. When you have dropped them, look across the room and slightly to the left to see the next valve.

Once you know where you are going, drop down into the room below and use the various platforms to vault across to the other side of the area. About a third of the way across another group of two Drones and Harbinger will land. Dispatch them quickly before running over and hitting the green valve (5/8).

Continue into the hallway to the right and disable the next green valve (6/8) here. Follow the passage around the corner and eliminate the three drones here. Take cover behind the raised area to the right at the end of the hall and you should see the next valve in front of you at the near end of a bridge leading to a large platform. Stay in cover here and defeat the Collector Assassin and any other Drones in the immediate area. When they are dead, vault up to the platform and quickly run up to activate the green valve (7/8) and take cover.

The final two valves will be heavily guarded - expect Collector reinforcements to arrive as you progress.

On the platform across the bridge 6-7 Drones and Harbinger will fly in to keep you at bay. Continue to move up and eliminate them as you go. When all the enemies are all dealt with and the coast is clear, make your way over to the left to hit the final green valve (8/8) to watch a short scene.

Mission Completion Rewards
Experience Gained: 300

Assuming you delegated a loyal Tali and Jacob as your tech expert and secondary squad leader (or equally competent and loyal characters in roles they’re suited for), everybody should make it through unharmed. Likewise if you passed through the Omega 4 Relay immediately after the Collector Abduction , you should have rescued your entire crew. If you delayed, you may have arrived too late to prevent some casualties.

After you get back in contact with EDI you’ll be informed of a complication - somebody needs to escort the survivors back to the Normandy.

Regardless of how many crewmembers you managed to save, there are bound to be some survivors, and they’re not going to make it back to the Normandy without assistance. Changing circumstances call for an updated response, and accordingly you’ve got to assign a biotic specialist to protect you from unusually dense seeker swarms as well as an escort for whatever crew members you managed to rescue. You can also choose to reassign your secondary squad leader, should you see fit.

We recommend taking Samara along as your biotic expert (although Jack will suffice, if she’s alive and loyal) while sending Mordin back as your escort. Mordin’s not getting this job out of some great aptitude on his part, but rather because he’s just not needed later on, and his fragility may prove to be a detriment. Of course, this only applies if Mordin is loyal, if he’s not, send another character instead. We keep Jacob as our secondary squad leader.

The galaxy can be a massive, sometimes overwhelming place, and exploring it in Mass Effect 2 can be an overwhelming undertaking. Securing squadmate loyalty is a major focus of Mass Effect 2 , particularly prior to the endgame Suicide Mission, where characters' survival depends on the player's choices. With 12 total squadmates, including DLC characters, players will need to make time and plan to complete 12 loyalty missions. Many loyalty missions rely on Shepard's Paragon or Renegade score, which is based on the player's moral choices during the game. It will be in a player's best interest to save the loyalty missions that require demanding Paragon/Renegade checks until they near the end of the main story. With Mass Effect: Legendary Edition launching later this year , returning fans and newcomers alike may find themselves wondering when to complete the various main story and side missions for optimal results.

While there is no single right way to explore and complete missions in Mass Effect 2 , fans generally agree that there are some missions best saved for late-game to ensure the player has as many options and available outcomes as possible when it counts. Additionally, there are times in the game where a main mission will cut in and cannot be skipped or put off, or where a player will cross a point of no return. At these times, having a plan can position players for success. Here's an optimal way to complete missions in Mass Effect 2 .

Optimal Mission Order for Mass Effect 2

The optimal mission order for Mass Effect 2 ensures players can earn enough Paragon or Renegade points to access all possible Charm/Intimidate conversation options and outcomes and keep and maintain squad loyalty. Ultimately, the goal is to keep everyone alive during the Suicide Mission . It also ensures Shepard can gain access to key areas, like the Tech Lab aboard the Normandy, or find important weapons and upgrades.

Depending on Shepard's class and the selected difficulty setting, different mission orders may produce more desirable outcomes. Generally, however, fans point to this structure as having the most advantages for the greatest number of play styles.

Players should remember to scan planets in the systems they visit for resources any time they enter a new location. In doing so, they may discover anomalies. These are optional side missions that award credits, resources, experience, and sometimes upgrades, but none have any effect on the main story or the outcome of Mass Effect 3 . Players are free to complete these whenever and wherever they wish.

The Prologue is mandatory, and players will not have a choice about what to do or where to go until it has been completed and Shepard is aboard the Normandy SR-2.

  • Prologue: Save Joker
  • Prologue: Awakening (following character creation)

  • Normandy SR-2 -  Meet the new Crew, get comfortable with the ship, and pick up side missions from Sergeant Gardener, Dr. Chakwas, and engineers Ken and Gabby.

There are two ways to approach the start of Act One. Players can either start on the Citadel or Omega. Both are hubs with good weapons, armor, and upgrades to purchase, and players can recruit squadmates, including the DLC characters , at each location. Ultimately, players will find there are more missions on Omega than the Citadel, but the order of these can be switched at any time.

  • Dossier: The Veteran (Zaeed) - Players will immediately find Zaeed upon leaving the Normandy SR-2 and finding out Aria wants to speak with them.
  • Omega: Aria T'Loak -  Players can unlock an optional side mission, Omega: The Patriarch , by talking to Grizz. They can also find the Serrice Ice Brandy at the Afterlife bar for Dr. Chakwas. In the Market District, they will find the FBA Couplings at Kenn's Salvage.
  • Dossier: The Professor (Mordin) - Unlocks the Tech Lab on the Normandy and allows players to begin making upgrades to weapons, armor, and the ship. Players should speak to every squadmate about Normandy Upgrades and make all Ship Upgrades prior to the run to the Collector base.
  • Dossier: Archangel (Garrus) - Make sure to bring the datapad info back to Aria for a reward.
  • Investigate the Normandy Crash Site
  • Project Firewalker -  There are 5 separate assignments to this mission. Players can start with Project Firewalker: Rosalie Lost here and choose whether to complete the rest now or later in the game.
  • Dossier: The Thief (Kasumi) -  Players will find Kasumi immediately upon arrival at the Citadel. After this, they should head to the Presidium to meet with Anderson. They can find special ingredients for Sergeant Gardener and Serrice Ice Brandy for Dr. Chakwas at shops in the Wards.
  • Kasumi: Stealing Memory
  • Dossier: The Warlord (Grunt)
  • Dossier: The Convict (Jack)
  • Horizon -  Horizon is a mandatory mission that will trigger as soon as players complete the final dossier in this set. The four dossier missions (excluding Zaeed and Kasumi) are not optional.

Following the Horizon mission, players should begin speaking to their squadmates each time they disembark and then return to the Normandy. Yeoman Chambers will let Shepard know a specific squadmate wants to talk to them, which lets players know the loyalty mission has triggered. Players only get five missions between Horizon and the Collector Ship , so it is best to prioritize loyalty or recruitment missions. It's important to note that smaller fetch quests, including planet scanning for resources and Liara's quests on Illium, should not trigger the Collector Ship and are safe to complete. Investigating anomalies do count toward the five missions, however.

Players only need to complete two of the remaining dossier missions, so they can skip recruiting Tali, Samara, or Thane if they prefer.

  • Dossier: Tali (Tali) - Players should try to keep Kal'Reeger alive by convincing him to stand down.
  • Dossier: The Justicar (Samara) - Prior to this mission, players should make sure to find Liara and speak to her, as she has information about both Samara and Thane. Shepard can choose to help Liara with a few optional missions but should not choose the dialogue option to begin Lair of the Shadow Broker yet.
  • Dossier: The Assassin (Thane) - Bring the datapad found on this mission back to the frazzled salarian for a reward.
  • Grunt: Rite of Passage 
  • Mordin: Old Blood
  • Collector Ship -  The Collector Ship is a mandatory mission that will trigger five missions, including anomaly investigation missions, following Horizon .

During Act Three, players should take their time to finish all loyalty missions and any side missions they want to do before the endgame. They should not start the Reaper IFF mission until they have completed everything else, as this starts a timer that only allows room for completion of Legion's loyalty mission if players wish to save all members of the Normandy SR-2 crew. Players should save Lair of the Shadowbroker and Arrival until after the Suicide Mission for the most seamless transition to Mass Effect 3 .

Players should note that it is possible to fail Thane's, Samara's, Tali's, and Zaeed's loyalty mission. They will need to follow their teammates' instructions and sometimes will need to pass a demanding Paragon/Renegade check to succeed and secure loyalty.

  • Miranda: The Prodigal -  While back on Illium, players can finish any smaller missions they may have missed, including Liara's requests.
  • Jacob: The Gift of Greatness
  • Garrus: Eye for an Eye
  • Thane: Sins of the Father
  • Jack: Subject Zero -  Following this mission, Jack and Miranda will fight. Shepard needs to use the Charm/Intimidate dialogue option to break up the fight. Choosing sides will result in the loss of loyalty from one of the two women.
  • Samara: The Ardat-Yakshi
  • Tali: Treason
  • Zaeed: The Price of Revenge
  • Overlord DLC

At this point, players need to be certain they have met the following conditions:

  • All squadmates loyal
  • Researched Normandy armor, weapons, and shields upgrades (from Jacob, Garrus, and Tali respectively)
  • Completed all desired side missions
  • Purchased all desired equipment
  • Exhausted all dialogue options with squadmates
  • Made all desired weapons/armor upgrades

They can then proceed to the endgame.

Once players retrieve the Reaper IFF, they can only access the Galaxy Map once before the Collectors attack the Normandy. Following this attack, if they complete other missions ahead of going through the Omega-4 relay, they will lose crew members.

  • Reaper IFF -  Following this mission, players must decide what to do with Legion. They can either sell it or activate and recruit it. If they choose to recruit it, they will need to talk to it twice to unlock its loyalty mission.
  • Legion: A House Divided -  Following this mission, Legion and Tali will fight. Shepard needs to use the Charm/Intimidate dialogue option to break up the argument. Choosing sides will result in the loss of loyalty from the unsupported squadmate.
  • Collector Attack -  This small mission is mandatory. Players will control Joker and will need to follow EDI's instructions.
  • The Suicide Mission (Stop The Collectors & Collector Base )
  • Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC
  • Arrival DLC

It's important to note not every player will want to complete the main story of Mass Effect 2  the same way, and there is no wrong way to order missions. For example, if a player intends to romance Garrus Vakarian , they may enjoy the story more if they can start with  Dossier: Archangel , even ahead of Dossier: The Professor . As another example, if players have a strong moral direction for their Shepard, once they hear about a dire situation, such as Thane's son's assassination attempt or Tali's hearing, they may choose to complete those missions sooner, as their Shepard might choose to act fast despite possible ramifications. Ultimately, players can shift missions around to make the most sense for their story and desired outcomes.

What Triggers the Collector Ship Mission?

Mission rewards, advanced weapon training, escape the collector ship, back on the normandy, reaper iff roadmap, post-collector ship shopping.

The acquisition of the Collector Mission is a bit nebulous, however there are a few requirements that are generally reliable:

  • You need to have 8 Squad Mates. For modern players, the addition of Zaeed and Kasumi early into the game means that, after Horizon , you only need one more Squad Mate to meet this requirement, assuming you've awoken Grunt .
  • Certain minor Side Quests do not count towards this, typically ones that do not have their own level, such as Struggling Quarian on Omega or Krogan Sushi on The Citadel. The Normandy Crash Site DLC also does not count, despite having its own level.
  • The main complication is Miranda's Loyalty Mission. If you have also done Jack 's Loyalty Mission, you'll be taken to the Normandy after doing Miranda's in order to resolve their fight.

While you'll be forced into starting this Mission as soon as you acquire it, it won't disrupt the story or any Missions: you'll be returned to business as usual once you're done. So, don't worry about being forced into it.

Recommended Squad

  • As you might expect, you'll be facing Collectors during this Mission, many of whom will have Armor and Barriers. Because of this, Jack and Garrus are good picks, especially because they also have unique dialogue.

After meeting the criteria listed above, attempting to access the Galaxy Map only elicits a response from Joker telling you to go to the Comm Room, thus not allowing you to anything else at the moment. Head to the Comm Room and Activate the Message Terminal to speak with him. He'll tell you about a Collector Ship that has been disabled by raiding Turians. Now's our chance to figure out what the Collectors are all about, by patching EDI into their systems.

Following the conversation, you'll be transported to the Collector ship, with Joker at the helm. Pick your team wisely here, because you're going to be on this ship for awhile. There are no right or wrong answers in terms of teammates, but go with who you're most comfortable with. A well-rounded team will go a long way here.

When you gain control, walk away from the landing craft. You'll be in a ship that's half synthetic and half organic -- very Cylon-like. For the time being, things will be pretty straight-forward for you. You won't run into anyone -- alive, anyway -- and you can simply explore the linear passageway before you. You'll run into a Pod on the path that, once examined, will be identified as quite similar to the ones you found on Horizon , albeit empty. That can't be good.

Further up the path, you'll find a pile of Dead Bodies, all human. Here you can reply

  • "Maybe they're better off" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "We can't help them now" for +2 Renegade Points .

When you head around the next corner, keep an eye out for some loot:

  • Collector Technology - 7,500 credits. On the metal wall on the right, in the pipe-like structure.
  • Med Kit - Further down the metal wall where the Collector Technology is.

Up ahead is a Control Terminal nearby that you can initiate for a cutscene. When you examine it, you'll bear witness to a cutscene that will begin to explain some of what's going on around here. To make a long story short(-ish), Collectors are using humans to test and compare their DNA. After some data is sent back to EDI, she makes a rather stunning realization -- the Collectors are genetically modified Protheans!

  • At this, you can say "The Collectors are Protheans!" for +2 Paragon Points .

At the next dialogue wheel, you can reply either...

  • "That's a horrible fate" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "They'd be better off dead" for +2 Renegade Points .

At this point, Shepard will find a collection of weapons nearby and reach down for one, and you'll be taken to the Advanced Weapon Training menu. This is a VERY important menu! Here, you can choose to have Shepard train in using either an Assault Rifle, a Shotgun or a Sniper Rifle, which can be very useful in giving you more options in combat.

Soldiers, Vanguards and Infiltrators are in a unique position, however. Since they are already trained to use one or more of these three weapon types, those options are replaced with a VERY powerful weapon, all of which among the most powerful in the game, albeit with an Achilles Heel.

  • M-76 Revenant - Exclusive to Soldiers, this is a very powerful Assault Rifle with a massive clip of 80 shots, and deals a lot of Armor damage. However it has significant muzzle climb and is very inaccurate, but these can be solved with Adrenaline Rush and the Assault Rifle Accuracy Research Project.
  • M-300 Claymore - Available to Soldiers and Vanguards, the Claymore has little ammo and short range, but is INCREDIBLY powerful. Vanguards get the most use from it thanks to their Charge ability, which lets them close the gap and quickly eviscerate the target with a single shot.
  • M-98 Widow - Available to Soldiers and Infiltrators, the Widow is a heavier version of the M-92 Mantis, able to kill nearly every enemy in the game with a single headshot (on higher difficulties, you'll need Research, Ammo Powers and Armor buffs to do this). While it has more spare ammo than the Mantis, it still has only one shot per clip and takes a while to reload, so every shot has to count.

Once you've made your choice, turn left to face the way forward and spot some loot:

  • Power Cells - 100 credits. Further up along the right wall, in front of some Weapon Lockers.
  • 250 Refined Element Zero - Tucked behind the Weapon Lockers were the Power Cells are.

The Weapon Locker here where the Power Cells and Eezo are is great if you've just trained in a new class of weapon and want to choose which new weapon you want to have on you.

As you press onwards, your Squad will point out a tunnel in the ceiling with many more Pods in them. You can find more loot after this point:

  • Collector Technology - 15,000 credits. From the ceiling tunnel, head up the ramp on the right and keep heading right: you should walk directly into this.
  • Control Terminal - Damage Protection Research Data. From the Collector Technology described above, turn left and go all the way to a metal wall. The Control Terminal will be here as a blue panel.

Now head up the long ramp on your left, working your way higher and higher through the ship. And yet, still no sign of the Collectors, or anyone else still among the living. As the ramp moves upward, you'll come to a wide-open chamber, full of more pods than could possibly be filled by all human colonies strewn around the galaxy. Continue forwards and at the end of the path, you'll find a green Command Console you can use to Contact the Normandy with.

As becomes apparent, EDI's data mine opens the Normandy up to a security breach from Harbinger himself, where he tries to overload the Normandy before bringing the Collector Ship begins to bring itself online. Here you can respond with either...

  • "We're okay" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "Status report - now!" for +2 Renegade Points .

When you finally regain full control following this topsy-turvy cutscene, you'll be in for a fight with the Collectors as you make your way out.

The battle with the Collectors here is going to be one of the most difficult fights you've faced so far in the game, hands down. Platforms similar to the one you're one will begin to come towards your location from all sides. Each of these platforms contains plenty of Collector enemies, including the powerful Harbingers that are extremely difficult to bring down even in the best of circumstances On top of that will be a Scion, whose biotic Shockwave move can break through cover and kill you incredibly quickly, even on the Casual difficulty. Get ready to use liberal amounts of Medi-Gel here, because chances are, you're going to need it.

After taking down the Scion, Harbinger should be prioritized when you're picking off targets, since he's capable of creating so much havoc with or without help from the Collectors (plus he talks a lot of crap, too). Don't let them get close to you, or it's game over. Instead, keep them at bay using your most powerful weapons to ensure that these guys don't get the upper hand. A sniper rifle, if you have one, will go a long way here in eliminating rocket-launching foes several platforms back. They think they're safe, but friend, they aren't.

  • Power Cells - 100 credits. Following the death of the last Collector in the assault team, ignore EDI for the moment and head up to the highest platform, where you can find this.

Now return to the green Command Console and use it to initiate a cutscene with Morality Points:

  • Answer "Good work" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • Answer "About time" for +2 Renegade Points .

As EDI moves you to an escape route, she gets the information needed to plan your way through the Omega-4 relay, as well as strong evidence that the Illusive Man knew this was a trap. But the Collector Ship is going to be at full power soon: it's time to get out of dodge before it's too late!

When you finally regain control following that telling cutscene, it's time to make our escape. The path laid before you is a linear one, but there's nothing easy about fighting your way out of this Collector Ship. If anything, things just get more difficult from here. But don't forget these items:

  • Med Kit - 100 credits. When EDI lets you know she's opening a door on the right, check next to the door on the left to find this.
  • Collector Technology - 7,500 credits. As you go through the right-hand door and to the bottom of the ramp, check the orange tube machine on the left side.

You'll then run into a location where a battle is clearly going to take place, and as you settle in to this location, your premonitions will come to fruition. More Collectors, and Harbinger will make an appearance here. Thankfully, there's plenty of room with which to work, so you should be fine in getting through this battle in one piece. Be sure to scour the location for ammunition before pushing on.

After moving away from the location of the previous battle, you'll rejoin another linear passageway and be forced to continue further into the ship. But there's another fight you have to deal with first, and this location makes things a little more complicated, because it's essentially one large corridor with little cover (you'll have the main area in the middle lit in yellow light, and an elevated area on the left lit in white light). You'll have to protect one flank specifically, possibly leaving your other flank susceptible to attack. You can be overrun fairly quickly, so remain aggressive and ensure no enemies get near your position.

Once the battle is over, return to the main yellow-lit corridor for more loot:

  • Power Cells - 100 credits. In the main yellow-lit corridor, head forwards all the way to the back wall. As you go, keep an eye out on your left to spot this between a ramp and a slanted metal wall.
  • 250 Refined Element Zero - From the Power Cells described above, check behind the slanted metal wall to find this.
  • Med Kit - 100 credits. Right next to the Refined Eezo.

If you were feeling a boss fight coming (or a "boss-like" fight, anyway), then your feeling will become a reality in this next, wide-open chamber. This battle can be a true pain in the butt, so get ready to restart a few times, because chances are, you'll die at least once. You'll fight a Praetorian here, just like on Horizon, and just as tough. Making matters worse, Husks and Collectors will occasionally join it in battle. The Praetorian can rip you to shreds, and when it strikes the ground it raises a Barrier that needs to be felled to damage its Armor (which is its only health meter).

Because of this you need to fight it from a very large distance, so begin the battle on top of the ramp leading downward and let the enemy flank you from the left, shooting him all the while (with heavy weapons or other powerful arms). As it comes towards your position, put the support beams in between you and it so you can whittle down its damage some more. When it begins to get near you, run down the ramp, deal with the Collectors down there, and then dart across to the bottom of the ramp on the other side of the room. The L-shaped barrier here is key, and you can spring your attacks on the Praetorian from here for the rest of the battle until it falls.

Now it's time to continue making your escape. The door EDI opened at the start of the Praetorian battle will close, but she'll open up another one on the opposite wall. Head through here and your Squad will comment that they can see an early part of the level. Down the corridor here, you can find some more loot:

  • Collector Technology - 7,500 credits. On the left-hand side of the corridor, next to a metal wall.
  • Control Terminal - Tech Damage Research Data. On the right-hand wall of the corridor, directly across from the Collector Technology described above.

The next area will be the last major battleground of the level, where you'll be attacked by Collectors, Harbinger, and several Abominations. Stick to cover and take out the Abominations first, then focus on Harbinger. Once they're down, you'll want to go around the corner as wide as possible by going up the right-hand ramp. This helps mitigate the enemies who spawn here. One of them can be a Scion, which as you'll know by now is a very, VERY dangerous enemy.

Once you've cleared the area, you'll be in the home stretch. Your last opposition will be a mass of Husks around the entrance ramp. You should stick to around the corner at the top of the ramp so you can use the corner as an effective bottleneck. If you're impatient and very daring however, you can try to just Sprint past them all! However you get past them, once you get close to the Kodiak Shuttle, you'll be outta here.

When you find yourself automatically back on the Normandy, Shepard will meet with the Illusive Man. Here, you can say...

  • "I knew I couldn't trust you" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "What the hell is going on?" for +2 Renegade Points .

After the Illusive Man attempts to justify himself, you can respond with...

  • "I'd have found another way" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "Never again, you hear me?" for +2 Renegade Points .

Finally, you can pick "Another 'derelict' ship?" at any time for +2 Renegade Points .

Whether you liked his methods or not, the Illusive Man's plan worked, and Shepard relays this to Jacob, Miranda and Mordin. Here you can reply with...

  • "I agree" for +2 Paragon Points .
  • "I still don't like it" for +2 Renegade Points .

You'll also get +5 Paragon and Renegade Points for completing the Mission.

The rest of the conversation with Jacob, Miranda, EDI and Mordin will have you mull over what you want to do next: build the team or go for the Reaper IFF . Don't worry about these dialogue choices : they won't take you anywhere or affect the story at all. What matters are your actions going forward, not these dialogue choices .

It's at this point in time where, if you've been talking to Kelly and are in an informal or flirty relationship with her, that you can talk to her after the Collector Ship Mission. Here, you need to pick "Worried? You do care", then "What about me?": this will open up the option to reply "Let's have dinner", which will take place off-screen.

Once you're back the conversation will end, and you'll get +5 Paragon and Renegade Points . At this time, you can talk to Kelly again and she'll make a one-time offer to feed your fish for you. Reply with "Yes", and now you don't have to worry about feeding your fish after every Mission and Side Quest! Hooray!

Now for the rest of your post-Mission Normandy rounds.

  • CIC : There's a new exchange in the Bridge tunnel leading to the cockpit.
  • Crew Deck : Pass by the Mess Hall for a new exchange, then talk to Kasumi if you invited Kelly up for dinner. You can also talk to Thane to pick up his Loyalty Mission (see below).

Finally, if you've been following the guide in order you'll be able to talk to Thane to pick up his Loyalty Mission, which will be on the Citadel. Unlike with Horizon and the Collector Ship Mission, the next core story Mission will be a place you can visit on the map and tackled at any time: Acquire Reaper IFF in the Hawking Eta cluster. Here's what you need to know about it:

  • You can delay this Mission as much as you want. There's no time limit to tending to this Mission.
  • We in fact RECOMMEND saving the Reaper IFF until last. This is because...
  • Completing Reaper IFF will kickstart the road to the end of the game. Once you complete it, an invisible timer will start that ends after you've completed four Missions and / or Side Quests , after which the next mandatory story Mission, Jokers Jump , will start automatically.
  • After Jokers Jump is completed, the story will urge you to initiate the final Mission. Not having your Squad or the Normandy prepared can have dire consequences, but delaying the final Mission at that point can also have dire consequences.
  • With all the above in mind, the best time to prepare for the final Mission is NOW. That's because you have the entire rest of the game open to you, the stores will have their full stock, and you'll be under absolutely no time pressure to do it all.

Now that you've done the Collector Ship Mission, some stores will now have updated stock. This is the final time the stores will get anything new, so plan your spending accordingly! Below are all the new items, along with their non-discounted prices.
