What to look for in business plan software

Ultimately, it's up to you to decide, which, if any, of the best business plan software solutions on our list is right for your business.

So, if you're trying to figure out how to choose between the various options out there, it might be helpful to compare your top choices based on the following criteria:

Features: As we've seen different business plan software solutions offer different features. You'll want to look carefully at the feature list of any software and determine what features are most important for your business needs. Do you need an extensive library of templates with detailed customization? Would you prefer software that includes an online learning center for business skills? Are you looking for a solution that combines business plan writing with other tasks? It may be useful to list out your ideal feature set, so you can compare individual software plans to that list.

Price: Although you might be able to find some free business plan software options (or at the very least, free trials), in most cases, you'll need to pay a subscription fee to access the platform you choose. Therefore, you'll want to think about what your budget is for this business tool and what type of software is most cost-effective for your needs.

User experience: User experience can vary widely among different business plan software options. You’ll find some programs that are newer or have been recently updated. Others might have the kind of interfaces that felt new years ago but are now pretty out of date—and, subsequently, make them a little harder to use. The right user experience for your needs is genuinely a matter of opinion and comfort—nevertheless, it's worth testing thoroughly testing out a platform to ensure that it can truly work for you before investing in a monthly or annual subscription.

The bottom line

There's no doubt that properly crafting your business plan is important for the future growth and success of your small business. Luckily, the right business plan software should make the process much simpler.

This being said, whether you opt for one of the best business plan software options listed here, or another platform entirely, you'll want to take the time to compare multiple solutions and ensure you choose the one that's right for your business.

As we mentioned, it can be helpful to think about the features you're looking for, your budget, and your user-experience preferences ahead of time—that way, you'll have a set of criteria in mind as you explore different solutions.

Ultimately, perhaps the best thing you can do to find the right software is to actually test out the platforms themselves—either by using a free trial or a money-back guarantee.

5 Best Business Plan Software For Mac of 2024

Starting a new business is an exciting venture but a well designed business plan is essential to give you the best possible chance of making it a success.

A business plan not only helps you clarify exactly how your business is going to launch (or how its going) but it’s also essential to attract investors, banking finance and attract talent on board.

In this article, we’ve looked at the best business planning software that you can use on your Mac to help you get off the ground.

In our research, we found that there’s actually not a single business planning software that offers a Mac desktop app. In fact, there are very few that even offer Windows desktop apps as almost all of them are web based.

However, the good news is we found some excellent Cloud based ones that work in any browser on a Mac and in some cases, integrate with desktop accounting software on your Mac too.

Quick Navigation

Do You Really Need Business Plan Software?

1. liveplan, 4. planguru, 5. upmetrics, comparison table.

If you’re really on a shoestring budget, you can draw-up a business plan with word processing software or spreadsheet tools such as Excel and Numbers for Mac.

You can also use mind mapping software to help you brainstorm ideas and come up with a basic business plan.

However, using business planning software gives you a more detailed, structured approach and helps highlight your all important Unique Selling Points (USPs) better than a document or spreadsheet.

A business planner will help make it clearer what your strengths and weaknesses are and ultimately help you sell your idea more effectively.

If you’re not good with numbers, business planning software will also assist you in making financial forecasts which is something that word processing tools definitely can’t do.

However, a business planner is only as good as the data and figures you feed it. It can’t make an nonviable business idea sound viable and the effectiveness of it will of course depend on the financial estimates you give it being realistic.

With this in mind, here then are the best business planning tools that you can use on a Mac whether you’re a budding entrepreneur, seeking finance for an existing business or restructuring.

liveplan

LivePlan has been around over 15 years and is one of the most widely used business planning tools available with around 1 million users.

LivePlan uses a series of over 500 templates to help you quickly get a plan started based on your industry or market.

Most recently it introduced an AI powered Live-Plan Assistant that can set the tone of your proposal such as by giving it an Academic or Professional Tone.

If you use Xero or QuickBooks, LivePlan is also integrated with them so that you can cut down on accounting admin if your business launches.

The software also features its own financials that can help you forecast and estimate profit and losses if you’re struggling to come up with figures.

Many professional business consultants use LivePlan to create business plans and the software gives you the best possible chance to sell your business idea.

You can try a live virtual tour of LivePlan to see how to works although unfortunately, there’s no free trial.

  • Lender ready statements
  • Over 500 templates
  • AI Assistant
  • Easy to follow
  • Accounting software integration
  • No free version or free trial

Pricing: Standard $15/m , Premium $30/m

enloop

The big attraction of Enloop for small startups is that you can use it free for seven days without any credit card. The free trial is definitely worth trying to see what it can do for you before deciding whether it’s actually worth paying for.

Enloop can generate your financials with up to 36 month forecasts and compare your industry performance against up to 16 ratios.

The platform is easy to use and one of the few business planners that allows you to start for free before you decide whether it’s worth subscribing to a plan.

Enloop Plans start at $19.95 which is definitely reasonable compared to most other tools and allows you to share your plan with colleagues, investors and accountants.

  • Free for 7 days without a credit card
  • Financial forecasts up to 36 months
  • Automatically generates proposal outlines
  • Basic interface
  • No sharing plans in the free trial version

Pricing: Free Trial / Plans start at $19.95 per month

bizplan

If you want to put your business plan right out there in front of investors, then the big selling point of Bizplan is that it’s made by Startups.com. Bizplan claims to have helped raise over $500 million for startups it has helped draw-up business plans with.

Not only can you get advice from other entrepreneurs and investors but you may also be able to attract investment by putting it out through Funadable.com which connects you with investors.

The Business Plan Creator itself guides you through the planning process and has a web design style WYSIWYG style interface that’s easy to use.

There are also financial tools that give you forecasts, salary estimates, revenue projections and more.

The platform is also full of masterclass videos and tutorials giving you advice on how to make an effective business plan.

  • Partnered with startups.com to help you get investment
  • Slick, WYSIWYG business plan editor
  • Lot of templates to choose from

Pricing: Plans start at $29/month

Business Plan

Reasons to buy

Reasons to avoid.

Bizplan is the online business planning tool that claims usage of 30,000 startup founders from the Startups.co platform. They use a guided creator that can break the big project down into the component pieces that get tracked with a Progress Tracker, and expert guidance each step of the way including templates that can be dropped in, and completed, along with simple integration of visuals along the way.

Additional resources are also provided via the Bizplan Academy, with lessons on relevant topics, for example, “Building a Brand: How to Tell a Powerful Brand Story,” and “Critical Path Your Way to Higher Revenues,” among the many offerings. Those that need even more assistance also can take advantage of an expert consultation from a financial expert.

2. PlanGuru

PlanGuru is a comprehensive, and powerful software package in the business planning space. Education is provided via a series of case studies at their PlanGuru University and a whole slew of video tutorials.

The feature set includes flexible budgeting that can handle a simple small business, or a larger multi-department operating budget, and financial forecasting that uses multiple methods, including intelligent and turn-key methods - twenty methods in total. Historical results can also be imported with the general ledger import utility which can then applied to produce a rolling forecast. They also offer PlanGuru Launch, a service to bring in expertise and is charged per hour of assistance.

A significant downside is Planguru charges a higher cost than other software options. The cheapest option is around $75 per month for one business entity when billed annually. While there is no free trial, PlanGuru does offer a 30 day money back guarantee.

Website screenshot for Enloop

Our expert review:

Enloop is a great choice for business planning software for the cash strapped business as it is the rare offering that has a free tier. Step up up to the next tier, and this is no barebones product, as it has over 100 currency symbols, can automatically generate bank-ready financial reports, and even has automated text writing that can sync with financial data to turn it into text. There is also a real time performance score assigned, that dynamically changes as the business plan is strengthened.

The plans start with the Free tier, which is limited to a single business plan with simple text, no images, and does not offer any advanced features. The next plan up is the Detailed plan, that supports three business plans, and offers a significant 55% discount when paid annually, making it even better value. This plan costs around $20 per month. For a more comprehensive package you can buy the Performance plan costing around $40 per month.

4. LivePlan

LivePlan is business planning software that offers a simple pricing scheme as there is only a single plan to choose from. As they have a 15+ year track record, they offer a clean and simple interface, that can create business plans that look like they were done by an expert consultant, and the software includes a live dashboard that can track day-to-day performance. Those with writer’s block will benefit from the over 500 included sample plans that can be turned to for inspiration.

Rather than complicate things with too many tiers to choose from, LivePlan only has a single plan which can be paid for monthly or annually.

Website screenshot for Business Sorter

5. Business Sorter

Business Sorter promises to simplify and speed up business planning and claims to be able to flesh out a plan in an hour or two, via a novel 273 card sort system that covers many common situations.

The ability to reword cards is included, or also to add cards to the already expansive deck, so no worries if there is not a pre-made card for your situation. Unlike some sites that have videos, the educational resources here are provided as PDFs and Word files, which can be quicker to access, but harder to follow for some learners.

The lowest tier plan, Basic is fully featured, and includes up to three team leaders.

Other business plan software to consider

We've only covered some of the most popular business plan software platforms out there, but there are a number of other notables worth mentioning, plus a wide variety of providers of business plan templates. Below we'll briefly cover a range of some of the additional options out there that are worth considering to get your business plan right.

Go Business Plans is more of a consultancy than a software solution, but is worth mentioning for the simple fact that it's one of America's biggest business plan companies. While software might be able to do the job for you, if you're looking for significant funding, it's probably useful to get some professional advice, not least in terms of strategic planning, feasibility studies, and financial projections to ensure you have a solid base for your business plan.

Wise Business Plans provides a very wide range of templates to work from in constructing a business plan. These are particularly designed with funding in mind, no matter what kind of business you run. What is especially helpful is that Wise doesn’t simply deal with business plan templates for a diverse range of business types, the company also provides plan templates for franchises and non-profits.

Plan Writers  is another bespoke service that essentially listens to what you want and then puts the plan together for you. Again, this technically falls outside of business plan "software", but the chances are you'll use a software package as a platform to build from, and Plan Writers can then help you build up from that base.

Bplans is another provider of business plan templates, but goes beyond that with additional pitch and SWOT analysis templates. There are also business plan guides, industry reports, and a free course on writing a business plan. Bplans also publishes a lot of free-to-use articles on business planning, financials, and tax reporting, to help ensure you can keep your figures and projections accurate and compliant.

We've also listed the best free software for small business .

A business plan is essentially your roadmap to profitability from an initial investment. Whether it's your own money, or a loan from a bank, it's still a good idea to set up a business plan for yourself.

Main things to look to are a SWOT analysis to provide an idea of your business idea's strengths and weaknesses, as well as identify a unique selling point (USP) that will give your business an edge.

While business plans inevitably demand the use of figures, and while these can be impossible to be accurate with, at least by making intelligent guesses you can set yourself targets to work towards.

That's another common feature of a plan, so that specific periods you can review your business progress and make adjustments to your plan as required. This allows you to use real figures for your projections, allowing you to better plan ahead.

Which business plan software is best for you?

When deciding which business plan software to use, first consider what your actual needs are, as sometimes free platforms may only provide basic options, so if you need to use advanced tools you may find a paid platform is much more worthwhile. Additionally, free and budget software options can sometimes prove limited when it comes to the variety of tools available, while higher-end software can really cater for every need, so do ensure you have a good idea of which features you think you may require.

How we tested the best business plan software

To test for the best business plan software we first set up an account with the relevant software platform, whether as a download or as an online service. We then tested the service to see how the software could be used for different purposes and in different situations. The aim was to push each business plan software platform to see how useful its basic tools were and also how easy it was to get to grips with any more advanced tools.

LivePlan: Best overall business plan software

Data as of 3 /13/23 . Offers and availability may vary by location and are subject to change. *With annual billing

LivePlan has been our favorite business plan software for a while now, despite the stiff competition.

There’s a lot to like about LivePlan. It has pretty much all the features you could want from your business plan software. LivePlan gives you step-by-step instructions for writing your plan, helps you create financial reports, lets you compare your business’s actual financials to your plan’s goals, and much more. And if you ever need inspiration, it includes hundreds of sample business plans that can guide your writing.

LivePlan software pricing

$12.00/mo.$15.00/mo.
$24.00/mo.$30.00/mo.

But the best part? You get all that (and more) at a very competitive price. (You can choose from annual, six-month, or monthly billing.) While LivePlan isn’t quite the cheapest business plan builder out there, it’s not too far off either. And if comes with a 60-day money back guarantee. So there’s no risk in trying LivePlan out for yourself.

With a great balance of features and cost, LivePlan offers the best business plan solution for most businesses.

BizPlanBuilder: Most user-friendly

Need something easy to use? BizPlanBuilder fits the bill.

BizPlanBuilder doesn’t have a flashy, modern user interface―but it does have a very clear, intuitive one. You’ll be able to see your plan’s overall structure at a glance, so you can quickly navigate from your title page to your market trend section to that paragraph on your core values. And as you write, you’ll use a text editor that looks a whole lot like the word processing programs you’re already familiar with.

Data effective 3/13/23. At publishing time, amounts, rates, and requirements are current but are subject to change. Offers may not be available in all areas.

BizPlanBuilder also offers lots of helpful guidance for actually writing your plan. It gives you pre-written text, in which you just have to fill in relevant details. It offers explanations for what information you need to include in each section of your plan and way. It even gives you helpful tips from experts, so you’ll have all the information you need to plan like a pro.

So if you want planning software with almost no learning curve, you’ll like BizPlanBuilder.

Wise Business Plans: Best professional service

  • Custom quote

Unlike all the other companies on this list, Wise Business Plans doesn’t offer software. Instead, it offers professional business plan writing services―meaning someone does all the hard work for you.

Now, you might think that sounds expensive―and you’re probably right (you have to request a custom quote for your plan). But there’s a lot to be said for expertise, and Wise Business Plans has plenty of that. Your business plan will get written by an experienced writer (with an MBA, no less). They’ll get information from you, do their own research, and then write your plan. You get one free revision, and you can always pay for more.

Your end result will be a polished, entirely original business plan. (You can even get printed copies.) And best of all, you won’t have to spend your precious time working on the plan yourself. Wise Business Plans takes care of all the hard parts, and makes your business look good while doing it. Sounds like a service worth paying for, right?

Put simply, if you want the most professional business plan possible, we recommend using Wise Business Plans’s writing service.

Business Sorter: Best for internal plans

Many businesses need plans to show to people outside the company (to get financing, for example). But what if you just need a plan for internal use? In that case, we suggest Business Sorter.

Business Sorter uses a unique card-based method to help you craft the perfect business plan. (You can watch a demo video to see how it works.) You’ll plan some of the usual things, like finances and marketing. But Business Sorter also lets you make plans for specific teams and team members. It also emphasizes more internal matters, like operations, that might get overlooked in a business plan for outsiders.

After you’ve made your business plan, Business Sorter also helps you stay accountable to it. You can create tasks, give them deadlines, and assign them to team members―giving you basic project management tools to make sure your business plans become business actions. (Oh, and did we mention that Business Sorter has the lowest starting prices of any software on this list?)

It all adds up to a business plan software that works great for internal planning.

GoSmallBiz: Most extra features

Want to get way more than just business planning software? Then you probably want GoSmallBiz.

See, GoSmallBiz offers business plan software as part of its service―but it’s just one part of a much bigger whole. You also get everything from discounts on legal services to a website builder to a CRM (customer relationship manager) to business document templates. And more. In other words, you get just about everything you need to get your startup off the ground.

GoSmallBiz software pricing

$39.00/mo.
$49.00/mo.
$199.00/mo.

Don’t worry though―you still get all the business planning help you need. GoSmallBiz gives you business plan templates, step-by-step instructions, and the ability to create financial projections. And if you get stuck, GoSmallBiz will put you in touch with experts who can offer advice.

If you want business planning and much, much more, give GoSmallBiz a try.

  • PlanGuru : Best financial forecasting
  • EnLoop : Cheapest tool for startups

We recommend the software above for most business planning needs. Some businesses, though, might be interested in these more specialized planning software.

PlanGuru: Best financial forecasting features

Plan Guru

PlanGuru is pretty pricey compared to our other picks, but you might find its forecasting features worth paying for. It has more forecasting methods than other software (over 20) plus it lets you forecast up to 10 years.

EnLoop: Cheapest tool for startups

enloop logo

EnLoop doesn’t have our favorite features or interface, but it does have really, really low pricing plus a seven-day free trial. It's the most affordable software for startup business planning and still provides all the essential features like financial analysis, team collaboration, charting, and more.

Several of our previous favorite planning software, including BusinessPlanPro and StratPad, seem to have gone out of business.

A business plan is a written, living document that tells the story of your business and what you plan to do with it. It serves as the source of truth for you—the business owner—as well as potential partners, employees, and investors, but it also serves as a roadmap of what you want your business to be.

Why you need a business plan

While some small-business owners don’t see the point of creating a formal business plan, it can have some concrete benefits for your business. For example, one 2016 study found that business owners with written plans are more successful than those that don’t. 1

Still too vague? Then let’s get specific.

If you ever seek business funding (from, say, banks, angel investors , or venture capitalists ), you’ll have to prove that your business deserves the money you want. A formal business plan―complete with financial data and projections―gives you a professional document you can use to make your case. (In fact, most potential investors will expect you to have a business plan ready.)

Even if you’re not seeking funding right now, a business plan can help your business. A formal plan can guide your business’s direction and decision making. It can keep your business accountable (by, for example, seeing if your business meets the financial projections you included). And a formal plan offers a great way to make sure your team stays on the same page.

What to include in your business plan

Not all business plans are created equal. To make a really useful business plan, you’ll want to include a number of elements:

  • Basic information about your business
  • Your products/services
  • Market and industry analysis
  • What makes your business competitive
  • Strategies and upcoming plans
  • Your team (and your team’s background)
  • Current financial status
  • Financial and market projections
  • Executive summary

Of course, you can include more or fewer elements―whatever makes sense for your business. Just make sure your business plan is comprehensive (but not overwhelming).

How business plan software can help

With so many elements to include, business plan creation can take a while. Business plan software tries to speed things up.

Most business plan software will include prompts for each section. In some cases, you can just fill in your business’s specific information, and the software will write the text for you. In other cases, the software will give you specific guidance and examples, helping you write the text yourself.

Plus, business plan software can help you stay organized. You’ll usually get intuitive menus that let you quickly flip through sections. So rather than endlessly scrolling through a long document in a word processor, you can quickly find your way around your plan. Some software even lets you drag and drop sections to reorganize your plan.

Sounds way easier than just staring at a blank page and trying to start from scratch, right?

Choosing business plan software

To find the right business plan builder for your business, you’ll want to compare features. For example, would you rather write your own text, getting prompts and advice from your software? Or would you rather go with a fill-in-the-blank method?

Likewise, think about the elements you need. If your plan will have a heavy focus on finances, you’ll want to choose business plan software with robust financial projection features. If you care more about market and competitor analysis, look for software that can help with that research.

You may also want to find business plan software that integrates with your business accounting software . Some plan builders will import data from Xero, QuickBooks, etc. to quickly generate your financial data and projections.

And of course, you’ll want to compare prices. After all, you always want to end up with software that fits your business budget.

The right business plan software can make your life easier. With LivePlan ’s wide breadth of features and online learning tools, you can’t go wrong. Plus, BizPlanBuilder 's one-time pricing makes it easy to invest while Business Sorter has a low starting cost. And if you're business is looking to grow, GoSmallBiz and Wise Business Plans will scale with you.

But of course, different companies have different needs. So shop around until you find the software that’s best for you and your business.

Now that you've got a business plan, take a look at our checklist for starting a small business.  It can help you make sure you have everything else you need to get your startup off to a good start!

Creating a business plan can take anywhere from a couple hours to several weeks. Your timeline will depend on things like the elements you choose to include, whether you use software or hire a writing service, and how much research goes into your plan.

That said, much of the business plan software out there brags that it can help you create a fairly detailed plan in a few hours. So if you’re going the software route, that can help you set your expectations.

If you want to get the most out of your business plan, you should update it on a regular basis―at least annually. That way, you can continually refer to it to inform your company’s strategies and direction.

At the very least, you should update your business plan before you start looking for a new round of funding (whether that’s with investors or lenders).

Thanks to business plan software, you can easily write your own business plan rather than pay someone to do it for you. And in most cases, software will cost you less than a professional business plan service.

There are some times you might want to go with a service though. If time is tight, you might find that it’s worth the cost of a service. Or if you’ve got big investor meetings on the horizon, you might want the expertise and polish that a professional service can offer.

Ultimately, you’ll have to decide for yourself whether business plan software or a business plan service will work better for your company.

Methodology

We ranked business plan software and tools based on features, pricing and plans, and connections to project management and other services. The value of each plan and service, along with what it offers, was a big consideration in our rankings, and we looked to see if what was offered was useful to small businesses or just extra. The final thing we looked at was the ease of use of the software to see if it's too complex for small businesses.

At Business.org, our research is meant to offer general product and service recommendations. We don't guarantee that our suggestions will work best for each individual or business, so consider your unique needs when choosing products and services.

1. LivePlan – $15/month to $30/month

We love LivePlan overall because it offers great value at an affordable cost. The software lets you quickly create a business plan from anywhere in the world using what is arguably the best business plan software available on the market. It does everything better than its competition and costs way less.

What’s more, the online “cloud-based” platform is easy to use and you are under no contract or obligation to keep paying for the service. • Performance dashboards track sales and budgeting

Talking to the nice people at LivePlan we learned some inside information that we wanted to share with our readers.

  • Accountants use LivePlan as an added-value service to sell to their clients.
  • Businesses continue using LivePlan because of a feature called “Dashboard” which lets you manually enter your actuals or pull actuals from Quickbooks online to do comparative forecasting and analysis.

LivePlan receives great feedback from customers. LivePlan reviews average 4.5 stars out of 5 on GetApp. LivePlan is an easy company for us to recommend for the best business plan software.

2. Bizplan – $29/month, $249/year, $349 lifetime

Bizplan rates high on our list because they offer a lifetime plan that gets you “forever access” to their business plan software. As an added bonus, you also receive free access to Startup Courses and LaunchRock, a landing page builder.

  • Easy, “fill-in-the-blanks” plan builder

Here’s what else we learned:

  • BizPlan’s does all your financial calculations for you.
  • BizPlan strives to be an all-in-one solution for Startups needing funding.
  • BizPlan is constantly making improvements to its software.

BizPlan receives great feedback from customers. BizPlan reviews average 4.4 stars out of 5 on GetApp. Still a relatively new option, BizPlan already has over 30,000 satisfied customers. As their platform grows, we wouldn’t be surprised to see them integrate even more valuable features. Keep a close eye on this one.

3. Enloop – Free to $39.95/month

If you’re looking to try before you buy, Enloop is a strong choice as one of the only business planning software tools with a free trial.

  • User-friendly platform
  • Compare your financials against your industry’s performance
  • Bank ready financial statements (Profit and Loss, Balance Sheet, Cash flow)
  • Lets multiple team members work on a business plan
  • 36-Month detailed financial reports
  • Sync date and text into your business plan
  • Real-time performance rating
  • Generated business plan Pass/Fail report
  • Multiple currency formatting

  • Three business plan limit per account
  • Doesn’t integrate with QuickBooks or Xero
  • No financial forecasts beyond 36-months
  • No 30-day money-back guarantee

We learned that the premise behind Enloop is to make business planning easier for entrepreneurs. Enloop achieves this by making software simple to navigate through and takes risks off the table with their no credit card needed seven-day free trial. Their business plan creation software offers financial forecasting features for up to 36 months.

  • Enloop utilizes 16 financial ratios to get your business ready for investors.
  • Enloop offers some sample business plans that are easy to modify.
  • Enloop’s performance score increases as you create your detailed plan.
  • A new business or small businesses benefit the most from Enloop’s solutions.

Enloop receives fair feedback from customers. Enloop’s reviews average 3 stars out of 5 on PCMag. Enloop’s main complaint is its lack of instructional text for writing mission statements and other key sections. What they rank high on is their efficiency and the speed at which the software lets you write a business plan.

Even beyond the free version, Enloop Basic is just $9.95/month ($6/month when paid annually), so they’re one of the least expensive tools for writing a business plan.

Image of the company logo.

4. PlanGuru – $99/month to $299/month

PlanGuru is a good option if you’re looking for considerably more robust software that offers quite a bit more. The most notable feature we like is the valuation tool, only present on the desktop version of the software. PlanGuru lets you calculate the valuation of your business using three different methods. No other business plan software offers this that we know of.

PlanGuru also offers budgeting, forecasting, and performance tools to help you put together a business plan. In the main, PlanGuru allows you to get a custom-tailored three financial statement budget model up and running out of QuickBooks or Xero in a matter of minutes. PlanGuru’s business plan writing software takes you through a setup process where it asks you questions such as:

  • What’s the first month of your fiscal year?
  • How many historical years do you want to import?

And, once you answer these questions, PlanGuru then generates a model for you that you can then populate with your historical data if you have it. Then you can go through PlanGuru’s 20+ projection methods.

Some financial data projection methods include:

  • Expenses, like payroll, etc.
  • Balance sheet items, like accounts receivable, accounts payable, crude expenses, prepaid expenses, loans, etc.

These are only a few of the features the business plan software offers. Here are some more.

  • Budgeting/Forecasting Software
  • Analytics Service for Financial Performance & KPIs
  • Valuation calculations (desktop software only)
  • Desktop and cloud-based options
  • Free 14-day trial and 30-day money-back guarantee
  • Great customer support and knowledgeable sales staff
  • Lower-cost yearly plans offered
  • Advanced financial calculations
  • Business valuation calculations
  • No contracts
  • Integrates with QuickBooks and Xero
  • Costlier than LivePlan and most other business plan software options
  • Additional cost per user can add up quickly

The great thing about PlanGuru is that the only thing you have to worry about is the income statement and balance sheet projections because the cash flow statement is automatically generated.

Then once you have the cash flow statement, income statement, and balance sheet in place, you can then lock down the budget.

  • PlanGuru’s desktop version has three different types of valuation methods that calculate the worth of your business.
  • PlanGuru has some really nice reporting tools that pull together your financial statements into table formats, say, for the bank, line-by-line.
  • PlanGuru also has some nice charts, graphs, scorecards, and some easily digestible reports that can help you visualize how your company is performing.
  • Exports to Excel, PDF, and Word documents –and, there’s even a tool that lets you create customized reports.
  • You can print your plan off too to show partners, lenders, and investors.
  • PlanGuru now offers a cloud-based version of its software, though it will take some time to catch up to the rich features offered by the current desktop software version.
  • With PlanGuru you also get free updates, bug fixes, and new releases as they become available.

Important Note: These tools are important because investors may want to see not only historical performance but also projections.

5. IdeaBuddy – Free to $35/month

IdeaBuddy makes our list because of what’s behind their approach. IdeaBuddy focuses on helping entrepreneurs develop their idea first, then share it, and then refine it into a plan. If you have a business idea and don’t know what to do next, IdeaBuddy could be what you’re looking for in a business plan software.

  • Single-page business plan pitch (Idea plan)
  • Clean modern design platform combined with great financial tools
  • Marketing plan for selling and promoting your products
  • Market overview plan where you create targeted customer profiles, identify your competition and calculate the market potential
  • Business plan creation that includes forecasting performance and cash flow projections
  • A proprietary algorithm calculates a final score for your idea providing recommendations for improvement after you complete “Story Mode”
  • Idea Journal, that is an internal business plan for you to show potential investors
  • A lifetime plan costs only $178
  • Great for developing ideas
  • Great for doing market research
  • Pay-as-you-go plans offered
  • Email-only customer service
  • Software lag time issues
  • Fewer software options than most other small business options

IdeaBuddy has some great features that are fantastic from idea conceptualization down to cost projections and the laying out of steps to take to start a business. We would have liked, however, to been given more KPIs that would notify us of tasks, help with idea validation, and help us measure other objectives to better monitor the health of our business. Another thing lacking was the design of the finished plan–it contained some noticeable structural issues.

IdeaBuddy has received some outstanding customer reviews on GetApp. IdeaBuddy has earned a 4.6-star rating out of 5 possible stars.

6. iPlanner – Starts at $55/year

iPlanner is a comprehensive business plan software that has been aiding entrepreneurs since 2007, providing a robust framework for developing business plans, models, and financial forecasts online.

  • They’ve got two trademarked business planning services, Startup Framework™ and Strategy Designer™

  •  Their Startup Framework software has a business modeling section where you can design a business model canvas and strategize as much as you need before diving into your plan.
  • Doesn’t have a month-to-month option for either of their services. Their Strategy Designer is payable only annually, while their Startup Framework is available for 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month payments.
  • They don’t offer refunds
  •  Their website is pretty old school and tough to navigate.
  •  Unlike other business planning software, iPlanner doesn’t offer a free version or trial. However, you can take a tour of their Startup Framework software or view a demo of the Strategy Designer to get a feel for them.

iPlanner’s Business Planning Software

If a simple framework is all you’re looking for, iPlanner can help you out. They don’t have many bells and whistles, but at these price points, they offer a good value for nonprofits and corporations.

Business Plan Software Pros and Cons

  • By using business plan software providers, you’ll be able to create a solid outline for your business. Although some of the options above are better than others, each will walk you through from start to finish.
  • No matter how you look at it, business plan software is cost-effective. As long as you actually use the tool, you’ll generate significantly more value than you’re spending on monthly subscription fees.
  • If you spend the time to create a solid plan, you’re much more likely to hold yourself accountable. Think of planning software like an accountability buddy for entrepreneurship.
  • Your business plan tool will help set realistic financial goals, and most can also keep your bottom line in check by integrating your accounting software.
  • Business planning software enables you to collaborate with partners, mentors and investors.
  • Some of the business plan tools don’t offer support and can have slightly buggy features. That said, if you’re serious about writing a solid plan, go with a tool that’s constantly updated and well made.
  • Although some business plan tools have a collaboration feature, none of them can review it when you’re done. All business planning tools lack a human touch.

How to Choose the Right Business Plan Software

With the array of business planning tools available, it can be daunting to select the right one for your needs. Here are some tips for choosing a business plan software solution:

  • Consider your skill level – Opt for software like a wizard-guided template if you are less experienced in writing plans. Choose more advanced software with greater flexibility once you know what you are doing. Look for drag-and-drop tools to easily organize sections.
  • Determine your budget – Prices range from free to several hundred dollars. Know how much you can spend before shopping.
  • Compare features – Look for software with the specific tools you need, like financial projections, sample text, customizable templates, and more.
  • Evaluate the financial tool capabilities – The software should provide extensive financial tools like forecasting, modeling, projections, and dashboards to streamline financial planning.
  • Check reviews and ratings – Get feedback from other users about their experience with the software. High reviews indicate easier, more user-friendly software.

Which Is the Best Business Plan Software?

You know the unique requirements of your startup better than we do. These are all quality services that offer business planning software tools for entrepreneurs like you. Feel free to read over our full reviews if you’d like to know more about any of them or even visit the websites directly.

What is the purpose of a business plan?

The purpose of a business plan is to provide a structured outline and roadmap for a business’s goals, strategies, and operations. It serves as a guide for decision-making, resource allocation, and management.

Furthermore, it can be a crucial tool for attracting investors, securing loans, and ensuring that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the business’s direction and objectives.

What does business plan software do?

Business plan software assists entrepreneurs and businesses in creating, organizing, and refining their business plans. It provides tools, templates, and guidance to streamline the planning process.

Features often include financial forecasting, market analysis, visual aids like charts and graphs, collaboration capabilities, and even integration with other business tools. This software aims to simplify the task of creating a thorough and professional business plan.

How do you write a business plan?

To write a business plan, start by writing an executive summary that provides an overview of your business idea, products/services, market opportunity, and projected growth. Outline your company description, industry analysis, target customers, competitive advantage, marketing and sales plans, operations, management team, and financial projections.

How long should a business plan be?

The length can vary based on the complexity of the business, its stage, and its intended audience. In general, it might range from 15-50 pages. However, the key is to ensure that the plan is comprehensive yet concise.

For many situations, especially when seeking investment, a more detailed one is preferable. Yet, for internal purposes or for businesses at very early stages, a shorter, more concise plan might suffice.

Are there business plan templates on Word?

While project management apps run well via web browsers (see our list of the best web project management software ), our project management gurus always recommend using native apps for operating systems. Native apps can bring stability and performance boosts. However, not all apps are created equally. In this guide, we’ve rounded up the best project management software for macOS and iOS.

Key Takeaways: iOS & Mac Project Management

  • monday.com is the best overall project management software for Mac users. However, all the options listed here offer apps for macOS and iOS that get the job done.
  • The iOS mobile apps for each platform are barebones but are fine to use for basic task management.
  • Before signing up for the paid plans, be sure to take advantage of the free trials on offer. Key features vary from platform to platform, and it’s worth taking the time to find the best solution for you.

After running a series of hands-on tests, we concluded that monday.com is the best overall software for Apple users, thanks to its powerful feature set and solid desktop and mobile applications. However, there are many others here that made our list of best project management software (click the link to read it). Below, we will break down our picks for the best project management software for Mac and iOS.

Rewrote the article: changed the order of the list and swapped out a few entries to better reflect the current market.

Top Project Management Apps for macOS & iOS

What makes the best project management software for mac & ios.

What makes a piece of software a viable option varies from person to person. However, we look for project management tools that work well in web browsers and native apps.

With this in mind, we’ve tested those below to make sure they’re stable, smooth and to see if they play nicely with touchscreens. Below are six task and resource management apps that stand out, including monday.com, Asana, Wrike, Trello and ClickUp.

Check out our project management courses and grab a limited-time offer. Registration available now!

  • monday.com — Powerful, beautiful and feature-packed, monday.com takes the top spot
  • Asana — A beautiful task management platform with a solid free tier and friendly UI
  • Wrike — One of the best apps thanks to solid features and a clean interface
  • Trello — The master of kanban boards performs well on iOS and Mac devices
  • ClickUp — A fully featured project management solution that’s great for complex tasks
  • nTask — Easy-to-use task management software that’s also wallet-friendly

The project management solutions above represent the top performers in our tests for iPhone, iPad and Mac users. The programs excel at managing multiple projects, and they offer compelling free and paid tiers. In addition, the apps are well-designed, fluid and easy to use. It should be no surprise that monday.com takes the project management crown, but all of the programs here are solid.

The 6 Best Project Management Software for Mac & iOS

Below, we’ll break down the six Mac project management suites listed above. Have a look at the list to see which platform is the right task management software for you.

1. monday.com

monday ipad app

More details about monday.com:

  • Pricing : Free, $9 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : monday.com
  • A robust feature set
  • Easy on the eyes
  • Great desktop & mobile apps
  • The free plan could be better
  • The Basic plan is too basic
  • iOS app is light on features

monday.com is the best iOS and Mac project management software thanks to its comprehensive feature set that offers all the charts, reports, integrations and communication tools you could need. The software looks beautiful, is easy to manipulate and provides enough security to put end users at ease.

Whether you’re managing simple tasks or complex projects, monday.com will have your back. You’ll find Gantt charts, kanban boards, timelines, calendars and robust tools that will help your team. While integrations with many popular apps and automations are present in the desktop app, they’ve been removed from the iOS app, which is unfortunate but understandable.

A plus is monday.com’s touchscreen UI. During our testing, we found that dragging cards to assign tasks and moving lists with the swipe of a finger is effortless. It’s also easy to connect an account to the iOS app. To connect your account, you scan a web-based QR code with your device’s camera. In seconds, you’re logged in. Our experts believe monday’s strength lies in its seamless operation across its different versions.

Multiple Views Make monday.com Shine

monday.com shines thanks to its views. One of the best tools is the dashboard, which is available in the browser and desktop app. The dashboard puts tools, like Gantt charts, kanban boards, workloads and calendars, in one place for easy management. Unfortunately, dashboards cannot be created on mobile devices, but can be viewed.

Depending on the plan you choose, you’ll get access to multiple views within the software, and they all operate just as smoothly on the desktop and mobile versions as they do in the browser. The views and how information is presented make monday.com a leader in task management software. You can read more about the tools and features in our monday.com review .

monday views app

monday.com is a powerful project management application. The feature set is robust and the design is easy on the eyes; the only downside is the pricing. The free and Basic tier (costing $9 per month per user annually) are not competitive. However, the Standard tier — $12 per user per month annually — offers great value. There’s also an advanced $19 Pro tier and an Enterprise plan if needed.

Overall, monday.com is an attractive, feature-packed project management solution. You’ll find that the multiple views; slick web, desktop and mobile apps; and automation and integrations make monday.com easy to use. If you’re still not convinced, monday offers a generous free trial of the software that allows you to see what it can do.

  • Maximum users: 2
  • Minimum users: 3; All prices per user
  • Enterprise-level features.

asana desktop app

More details about Asana:

  • Pricing : Free, $10.99 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : asana.com
  • Excellent free plan
  • Easy to use
  • Full-featured desktop app
  • Comparatively expensive
  • iOS app lacks features

When it comes to project management software for Mac and iOS users, Asana is a close second to monday. Asana is a powerful project management app that helps managers oversee multiple projects and teams. The free tier offers space for up to 10 team members, unlimited tasks, and provides enough views and Asana integrations to get you started.

As with other platforms, Asana offers paid tiers that add more robust project management features and admin tools. When we tested Asana, our biggest gripe was just how expensive the paid tiers are compared to its competitors, while not offering anything radically different. You can learn more about the feature sets on offer in our full Asana review .

The native desktop app for Mac computers is identical to the web tool. You’ll find the same features and views, like a kanban board, timelines and calendars, as well as integrations and automations. The mobile app, while pleasant to use with touch, is OK, but its views are limited, and you cannot set up integrations from within it. It’s still handy to use while on the go, though.

Apps Take Asana to Another Level

All good project management software offers integrations, and Asana grants you access to over one hundred apps from the get-go, which is a sizable collection. You’ll find integrations — or apps as Asana calls them — for Slack, Gmail, Zoom, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams and more. If you choose the Business tier, you’ll get access to Adobe Creative Cloud and a few more apps.

You can easily set up integrations and automations from the desktop and web-based versions of Asana, and if you use the iOS app on an iPad or an iPhone, you’ll still trigger the automations you have in place. This level of continuity across multiple platforms makes Asana one of the best tools for Apple iOS and Mac users.

asana desktop integrations

The biggest downside of Asana is its price structure. For small businesses, it’s hard to go wrong with the Asana free plan . The Starter plan — $10.99 per user per month annually — offers more tools and views, but the pricing is steep. The Advanced tier — $24.99 per user per month annually — is ideal for large companies thanks to its resource planning tools, but it has an even bigger leap in price.

If you’re a business owner looking for a comprehensive suite of tools to track projects, Asana is a solid choice. Our experts found that the colorful user interface is a joy to use, and the integrations, views and team collaboration features are plentiful. We just wish it was a little more affordable. Still, when it comes to Mac project management software, Asana is a gem.

  • Up to 10 users
  • Price is per user. unlimited users, expanded features
  • Price is per user. unlimited users, even more features
  • Custom pricing, advanced security features

wrike desktop app

More details about Wrike:

  • Pricing : Free, $9.80 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : wrike.com
  • A good free version
  • Plenty of tools & views
  • Feature rich macOS app
  • Uninspiring user interface
  • The iOS app is barebones
  • Dramatic price jumps

Wrike might not be the most visually appealing project management software ever designed, but it’s still one of the best pieces of project management software for Mac. Wrike is easy to use, feature-packed and relatively affordable. iOS and Mac users who favor function over form will love this project management tool’s desktop and mobile applications.

The free version of Wrike offers a kanban board, task lists, 2GB of storage, several integrations and effective task management tools. However, Wrike shines when you step into the paid tiers, thanks to more integrations, subtasks, Gantt charts, reports and better security options, like two-factor authentication. You can find out more in our complete Wrike review .

After extensive trials with Wrike, we concluded that its Mac app looks and functions the same as the browser version, which makes working in both effortless. The bad news is that the iOS version of Wrike leaves a lot to be desired, due to its limited feature set. You can still manage projects, but don’t expect to dive deep into them while on an iPad or iPhone.

Versatility Is the Name of the Game

Wrike makes task management easy with superb versatility. Thanks to its views, Wrike is equally comfortable dealing with simple tasks as it is dealing with complex projects with many moving components and multiple team members. Wrike has a good kanban tool, and the Gantt chart, subtasks and project blueprint tool options in paid tiers are also top quality.

The views are easy to read and use across multiple devices, especially on an iPad, thanks to the responsive drag-and-drop and pinch-to-zoom actions on the touchscreen. No matter where you use Wrike — a web browser, desktop client or the mobile app — you’ll find that Wrike’s outstanding functionality translates well into each version of the software.

wrike gantt chart ios

Wrike is a robust piece of project management software for Mac and iOS devices. You’ll enjoy using it if you can get past the bland but functional user interface. The Wrike free tier is fine for individuals or very small businesses. However, if you want to manage bigger teams and projects, you’ll need to step up to one of the paid tiers, which dramatically increase in price.

The Team tier — $9.80 per user per month annually — offers Gantt charts, unlimited projects, tasks and subtasks, 50 automations, multiple views and support for up to 25 team members.

The Business plan — $24.80 per user per month — adds cloud-based software, more automations and advanced features. There are also Enterprise and Pinnacle plans. Overall, Wrike is a project management tool worth trying.

  • Unlimited users. Basic features.
  • Price is per user. Plans for 5, 10 and 15 users.
  • Price is per user. No monthly option. Plans for 5 to 200 users.
  • For large teams; Enterprise-grade security and scalability; Plans for 5 to an unlimited number of users.
  • For teams with complex work needs; Advanced tools and analytics for complex work; 5 to unlimited users

trello desktop app

More details about Trello:

  • Pricing : Free, $5 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : trello.com
  • Clean user interface
  • Feature stocked desktop app
  • Great free plan
  • iOS app is basic
  • Questionable privacy policy

Trello is, by far, the best kanban board application available. The only reason why our expert testers placed Trello in the fourth spot is because it only offers a kanban board, whereas the other options listed provide a full suite of project management tools; but wow, what a kanban board it is! Trello is clean, slick, easy to use, offers tons of integrations for free. You can find out more in our Trello review .

The free plan of Trello lets you add as many team members, integrations, automations, projects and lists as you need. Trello also comes packed with well-designed project templates. Trello does offer a few paid plans that add unlimited boards, a mediocre calendar, and advanced security and admin features, but after testing them, we found they do not offer good value for money.

The macOS app makes Trello a great project management tool for Apple users. The app offers everything that the browser version does, including integrations and automation support. It’s also as smooth as butter when in use. However, the iOS application is very basic. While it’s nice to interact with your kanban board via touch, the application offers hardly any features or tools.

Unlimited Power-Ups and Automations

Out of the box, Trello is already a powerful task management tool; however, when you factor in unlimited integrations — known as power-ups in Trello — the usability dial gets cranked to the max. You’ll find integrations with apps that help with time tracking, portfolio management, document management, collaboration features, file sharing, reports and more.

We have to mention task automation here because automations can easily make Trello work for you. For example, Trello can notify a team member on Slack that their project needs attention, and you can automatically share files, perform bulk actions and send emails without lifting a finger. The free plan offers unlimited automations, so you can make the most of them.

trello power ups

Trello is one of the best pieces of Mac project management software and should be considered by teams and businesses of all sizes. The project management app is easy to use, automations are powerful and it has the best representation of the much-beloved kanban board we’ve ever seen. Above all, almost every feature you could possibly need is available on the free plan.

If you need more from Trello, there are premium plans. The Standard plan — $5 per user per month annually — adds unlimited boards and larger file size uploads.

The Premium plan — $10 per user per month annually — adds views, priority support, and admin and security features. Meanwhile, the Enterprise plan — $17.50 per user per month annually — adds security options. The free plan is still best for most, though.

  • Unlimited users, 10 boards, Unlimited power-ups, Unlimited storage
  • Price is per user, Unlimited boards, Custom fields, Invite guests
  • Price is per user, Several new views
  • Price is per user, Advanced admin & security settings

click up list desktop

More details about ClickUp:

  • Pricing : Free, $7 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : clickup.com
  • A competitive free plan
  • Lots of features
  • Polished macOS application
  • Not very intuitive software
  • Poor touch support on iOS

Fifth on our list of best project management software for Mac is ClickUp. It offers a huge repertoire of features and is a favorite of software developers (and our in-house experts) thanks to its sprints. The software has a clean interface, time tracking and ClickApps (integrations). You can find out more about the features in our ClickUp review .

However, the price model is what makes ClickUp stand out.

You’ll find that ClickUp offers lots of tools and key features in its free tier ; however, many tools have use limitations. For example, you’ll be able to use the Gantt chart tool so many times per month. As you progress through the paid plans, limitations are removed and new features are added. The pricing is very competitive, which makes ClickUp quite appealing.

The macOS application is stellar. You’ll find all the tools and features you need (depending on your plan), including Gantt Charts, kanban boards, mind maps, tables, workloads and more. You can even implement ClickApps.

However, the iOS app isn’t the best. From our hands-on testing, we noticed that while you can touch items to select them, you cannot move them by dragging, and you only get list and calendar views.

Views Galore Make ClickUp Incredibly Versatile

ClickUp is a project management platform that does many things well. If you like kanban boards, you’ll like the one ClickUp offers. If you prefer lists and tables, ClickUp has you covered. If Gantt charts, timelines, whiteboards, activity and workload views are your thing, you’re in business. However, the stand-out view is the mind map.

If you like to brainstorm or prefer exploded views and subtasks, the mind map view in ClickUp will be right up your alley. The mind map gives you a complete overview of your project and allows you to track every component of it on one screen. The mind map can be as big as you need it, and navigating it is easy thanks to the large work area you’re given. It’s a fantastic tool.

click up mind map desktop

When it comes to pricing, ClickUp is competitive. The Unlimited plan — $7 per user per month annually — adds unlimited storage, integrations, dashboards, Gantt charts and more. For $12 per member per month annually, the Business tier adds the mind map, advanced time tracking and advanced automations.

Compared to other software solutions, you’ll need to spend more time with ClickUp to learn how its many tools work. However, your persistence and time will be rewarded with a versatile app that will serve you well. Pick the plan that suits you and your team, and you’re sure to be satisfied.

  • Basic functionality with some limitations
  • All prices per user

ntask browser list

More details about nTask:

  • Pricing : Free, $3 per month (one-year plan) per user
  • Provider website : ntaskmanager.com
  • Low cost of entry
  • A good set of features
  • Fairly easy to operate
  • The very limited free tier
  • macOS & iOS apps need improvement

nTask is not the prettiest platform, but its versatility makes it a prime choice for project scheduling. The free Basic plan is limited to five team members but offers unlimited workspaces and tasks. You can use integrations, powerful timesheets and time-tracking tools, but you’re limited to list, grid and calendar views. Your money goes far in the paid plans, though.

The project management tool boasts list views, calendars and kanban boards, as well as time, risk and issue tracking. There are collaboration tools, document storage and sharing, milestones, subtasks and advanced reports.

However, like other project management apps, nTask unlocks features and tools at various price points. For a more comprehensive look at nTask’s plan features, check out our nTask review .

nTask’s apps for Macs and iOS devices are adequate, but our firsthand experience with them reveled that they lack some key features, like timesheets, time management and being able to implement integrations. Still, if you’re traveling and need to manage the basics from the road, you can do so quickly, especially on an iPad, where you can swipe, push and pull items in lists and boards efficiently.

Timesheets Are nTask’s Ace in the hole

Many resource management apps offer time management and time tracking via integrations, which is fine. Still, it’s always better when a key feature is found baked into the software. That’s exactly what nTask has done, and they have done it very well. The timesheet tool, which is accessible via the web version of nTask, is powerful yet easy to use.

Each task can be added to a timesheet, and the manager or team member responsible for the job can input how much time has been spent on the activity. This tool makes it easy to see if a task is being neglected or is taking too long. We wish this resource management tool, which is available in every plan, was available on the desktop and mobile apps.

ntask timesheets desktop

Regarding pricing, nTask is competitive. This allows you to bill clients for the time you worked on their project and gives you an accurate picture of how much time a task took, which can help plan future projects.

Invoicing and Estimates

With Paymo, you can create invoices and estimates for your clients. You can include the project title, description, hours worked, and rates. You can also create forecasts for your clients, showing them what the project will cost without waiting for an invoice. This feature makes it easy to keep track of the money you're owed and makes it simple to request payments.

  • File Proofing

Paymo's file proofing feature allows you to upload files for your clients to review. You can upload a file, add notes and annotations, and send it to your client for feedback. Once they approve the file, you can mark it as authorized and move on to the next step in the project. Leave Planner

Often underappreciated, Paymo's leave planner is a great way to keep track of your team's vacation days. You can set up automatic billing or allow clients to pay with credit cards or PayPal. This makes it easy for your clients to pay their invoices without having to go through a lot of hassle. 11. ProofHub

Best cloud-based pm software.

ProofHub - The one place for all your projects and team collaboration

ProofHub is a project management software that helps streamline your workflow with an intuitive interface. The platform comprises several components, including a cloud platform, resource planning tools, and custom workflows.

The cloud platform is the base for everything else and includes many features such as task creation, calendars, communication channels, and document storage. When you create tasks on this page, they will automatically appear in other system areas. You can also add new resources to your projects via their resource management section.

Perhaps one of the most powerful features of ProofHub, labels allow you to group multiple tasks into larger projects. You can add labels for various purposes like “project completion” and “new hire onboarding.” After you’ve added these labels, you can easily navigate them using tabs at the top of your screen. Each tag will display all the tasks related to that project under one tab. If you click on the label, you can sort and filter those tasks according to the earlier criteria.

Request Forms

Request forms are another tool that comes included with ProofHub. This feature can collect specific data types from customers and employees. It works similarly to Google Forms but with a slightly different layout.

CSV Imports

This feature allows you to import list items from outside sources. Your team won’t be able to edit these entries after importing them, but they will still appear in your list of things when they’re updated later on. Using this feature, you can pull data from websites like Google Sheets and Excel files and import them directly into your ProofHub account. Once imported, you can access the original file in case any changes are made to it outside of ProofHub.

Dependencies

With this tool, you can connect two separate tasks to ensure they’re completed in sequence. For example, if you want a manager to approve a report before someone can submit it, you can configure the approval process to depend on the submission process. This prevents anyone from submitting the report until the manager approves it. Additionally, you can set dependencies between people, roles, and groups so that only certain people are allowed to perform specific actions.

ProofHub - Pricing Plan

ProofHub offers two pricing plans: Essential and Unlimited Control, that range from $89 to $45.

The Essential plan is best suited for small teams. The Unlimited Control plan best suits organizations that handle complex projects.

  • ProofHub provides a visual way for you to manage your project.
  • Facilitates easy integration – supports both Microsoft Outlook and Gmail accounts, making it easy to integrate with existing systems.
  • Ask questions, answer the queries of your team, and discuss plans in one place.
  • ProofHub’s outstanding technical support never leaves you alone in any fuss.
  • Allows you to benefit from their end-to-end professional solutions.
  • It doesn’t offer a free plan which makes it unsuitable for individuals or teams just starting with project management.
  • Setting up request forms and proofing is very time-consuming.

Nifty has a built-in time tracker, so you can easily track how much time each team member spends on their tasks. The app lets you see how long tasks take, which makes it easier for project managers and managers to predict when a project will be finished. The time tracker also lets you see how much time you spend on different tasks, which can help you identify areas where your workflow needs improvement. This is particularly useful for those who manage large projects and need to know when a team member will finish their work.

Project Portfolios

If your team needs multiple projects at once, Nifty can help by creating separate portfolios for each one. This way, there will always be an overview of all current projects, so everyone knows where they stand regarding progress and deadlines. There's also an intuitive calendar view showing upcoming milestones so everyone knows where they should be aiming at any given moment.

Docs & Files

Nifty also offers a comprehensive platform for storing documents and files. This feature is beneficial when it comes to collaborating with other company members. Using the file storage system, users can store any type of document or image that they need access to. Also, it can be accessed by multiple users at the same time. It doesn’t matter where the document is stored because it can be viewed anywhere.

Gantt Charts

The Gantt chart is a popular project management tool that lets you see how tasks fit together into a timeline. You can create a Gantt chart in Nifty by clicking on the same name button, which makes a pop-up window where you can input details about your project. From there, click on “Create Gantt Chart” to generate an interactive visual representation of your project.

Nifty offers a wide range of reporting features that help you gain better insight into your company's performance. You can find out which tasks are taking the most time, who is working on what, and how much each project costs. This makes it easy for your team to get a clear picture of what's happening in their projects at any time.

  • 40 Projects
  • 100 Projects
  • Workflow Automation
  • Project Overview
  • 250 GB Storage

Nifty offers five pricing plans: Free, Starter, Pro, Business, and Unlimited, that range from $0 to $399.

The free plan suits individual workers. The Starter plan is suitable for a small team of 10 members.

  • Allows you to automate all repetitive processes and tasks quickly.
  • Provides centered solutions for team collaboration which empower employees to work more creatively.
  • Their project management tutorials and guides help new users to get on track faster.
  • It is a cloud-based solution, meaning you don't have to worry about server maintenance or software updates.
  • Inability to infinitely break down tasks into subtasks to ease task management.
  • Time Expense needs improvement as one cannot edit logs entered previously.
  • Limited integrations as it gets costly for a growing business to rely on Integromat or Zapier.

13. Kantata

Best pm software for scalability.

Kantata - Try Kantata today and unleash the power of professional services

Before we get into the details of the software, it is worth mentioning its name. There was once an open source version of the software called Kantata, but later the company merged with its competitor, Kimble Applications, and renamed the product Kantata . The new name has been kept since.

Kantata provides a robust set of project management tools that both small and large professional services organizations can use. It offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to customization. On top of that, there’s also support for cloud hosting with Azure and Office 365.

Automated Workflows

Kantata offers various predefined workflows that can be assigned to projects. Workflow automation allows you to have processes in place without doing all the repetitive tasks manually. These include many activities such as sending emails, setting up meetings, assigning tasks, etc.

Project Templates

This is where Kantata shines and gives it an edge over other project management software platforms. With this tool, you can create templates and share them with your team members, who can then use them as a base for managing their projects.

Here's another unique feature offered by Kantata — its ability to integrate seamlessly with Slack! You'll be able to see notifications from both tools on your desktop, no longer switching between tabs or applications when working on multiple tasks simultaneously. This way, project managers who often struggle to manage their team's workload will find Kantata a handy tool.

Integration & Automation

While Kantata offers a wide range of features and integrations that allow you to track your team's workload and manage projects efficiently, it also has some automation capabilities. This way, project managers don't have to do all the work themselves — instead, they can focus on other important aspects of managing their team.

Often, project managers are tasked with managing a team and ensuring that each member has the right skill set for the project. Kantata allows you to manage your resources easily by creating and assigning different tasks to each team member. You can also set up automatic emails or reminders, so everyone is on the same page regarding their responsibilities.

Key Features Mac Users Should Look For in Mac Project Management Software

You should consider several factors when choosing a project management solution for Mac. Some of these include:

  • Task allocation – When managing multiple projects at once, this feature enables your employees to assign specific tasks to team members. This can make it easier for them to work together while keeping track of who is doing what.
  • Integration with other apps – If you want your project management software to integrate with additional apps such as email clients or accounting software , you'll need to ensure that's possible. Many project management platforms offer this feature, so you won't have to use multiple tools.
  • Multiple views – While it's ideal to have only one place to see all of your projects, sometimes this isn't always possible. That's where multi-view options come into play. They let you break down your entire project list into categories like active, in progress, or finished. It makes it much easier to keep track of everything happening across your company.
  • Team collaboration features – There are a wide variety of collaboration features that you'll find within project management software. These include file sharing, chat rooms, and document review tools. The more collaborative your company is, the more effectively everyone will work together.
  • Workflow management – This feature allows you to automate specific tasks within your project. For example, if you have a task that needs to be completed every week, you can set it up so that it's automatically added to your team's project list. Workflow management software can save you a lot of time and hassle in the long run, and having this ability in a PM solution will help.

What's nice about many of these project management solutions is that they support MacOS Catalina. This means you don't need to worry about compatibility issues because Apple has made it easy to switch between versions. Plus, there are tons of features that you won't get anywhere else.

Which Project Management Solution for Mac Should I Try?

There are a ton of great options when it comes to project management apps for Mac. The one you should go for depends on what kind of features you need and how much budget you have to spend.

Whether you’re a first-time solopreneur or a seasoned business owner, the planning process challenges you to examine the costs and tasks involved in bringing a product or service to market. The process can also help you spot new income opportunities and hone in on the most profitable business models.

Though vital, business planning doesn’t have to be a chore. Business plans for lean startups and solopreneurs can simply outline the business concept, sales proposition, target customers and sketch out a plan of action to bring the product or service to market. However, if you’re seeking startup funding or partnership opportunities, you’ll need a write a business plan that details market research, operating costs and revenue forecasting. Whichever startup category you fall into, if you’re at square one, our simple business plan template will point you down the right path.

Copy our free simple business plan template so you can fill in the blanks as we explore each element of your business plan. Need help getting your ideas flowing? You’ll also find several startup scenario examples below.

Download free template as .docx

Whether you need a quick-launch overview or an in-depth plan for investors, any business plan should cover the six key elements outlined in our free template and explained below. The main difference in starting a small business versus an investor-funded business is the market research and operational and financial details needed to support the concept.

1. Your Mission or Vision

Start by declaring a “dream statement” for your business. You can call this your executive summary, vision statement or mission. Whatever the name, the first part of your business plan summarizes your idea by answering five questions. Keep it brief, such as an elevator pitch. You’ll expand these answers in the following sections of the simple business plan template.

  • What does your business do? Are you selling products, services, information or a combination?
  • Where does this happen? Will you conduct business online, in-store, via mobile means or in a specific location or environment?
  • Who does your business benefit? Who is your target market and ideal customer for your concept?
  • Why would potential customers care? What would make your ideal customers take notice of your business?
  • How do your products and/or services outshine the competition? What would make your ideal customers choose you over a competitor?

These answers come easily if you have a solid concept for your business, but don’t worry if you get stuck. Use the rest of your plan template to brainstorm ideas and tactics. You’ll quickly find these answers and possibly new directions as you explore your ideas and options.

2. Offer and Value Proposition

This is where you detail your offer, such as selling products, providing services or both, and why anyone would care. That’s the value proposition. Specifically, you’ll expand on your answers to the first and fourth bullets from your mission/vision.

As you complete this section, you might find that exploring value propositions uncovers marketable business opportunities that you hadn’t yet considered. So spend some time brainstorming the possibilities in this section.

For example, a cottage baker startup specializing in gluten-free or keto-friendly products might be a value proposition that certain audiences care deeply about. Plus, you could expand on that value proposition by offering wedding and other special-occasion cakes that incorporate gluten-free, keto-friendly and traditional cake elements that all guests can enjoy.

3. Audience and Ideal Customer

Here is where you explore bullet point number three, who your business will benefit. Identifying your ideal customer and exploring a broader audience for your goods or services is essential in defining your sales and marketing strategies, plus it helps fine-tune what you offer.

There are many ways to research potential audiences, but a shortcut is to simply identify a problem that people have that your product or service can solve. If you start from the position of being a problem solver, it’s easy to define your audience and describe the wants and needs of your ideal customer for marketing efforts.

Using the cottage baker startup example, a problem people might have is finding fresh-baked gluten-free or keto-friendly sweets. Examining the wants and needs of these people might reveal a target audience that is health-conscious or possibly dealing with health issues and willing to spend more for hard-to-find items.

However, it’s essential to have a customer base that can support your business. You can be too specialized. For example, our baker startup can attract a broader audience and boost revenue by offering a wider selection of traditional baked goods alongside its gluten-free and keto-focused specialties.

4. Revenue Streams, Sales Channels and Marketing

Thanks to our internet-driven economy, startups have many revenue opportunities and can connect with target audiences through various channels. Revenue streams and sales channels also serve as marketing vehicles, so you can cover all three in this section.

Revenue Streams

Revenue streams are the many ways you can make money in your business. In your plan template, list how you’ll make money upon launch, plus include ideas for future expansion. The income possibilities just might surprise you.

For example, our cottage baker startup might consider these revenue streams:

  • Product sales : Online, pop-up shops , wholesale and (future) in-store sales
  • Affiliate income : Monetize blog and social media posts with affiliate links
  • Advertising income : Reserve website space for advertising
  • E-book sales : (future) Publish recipe e-books targeting gluten-free and keto-friendly dessert niches
  • Video income : (future) Monetize a YouTube channel featuring how-to videos for the gluten-free and keto-friendly dessert niches
  • Webinars and online classes : (future) Monetize coaching-style webinars and online classes covering specialty baking tips and techniques
  • Members-only content : (future) Monetize a members-only section of the website for specialty content to complement webinars and online classes
  • Franchise : (future) Monetize a specialty cottage bakery concept and sell to franchise entrepreneurs

Sales Channels

Sales channels put your revenue streams into action. This section also answers the “where will this happen” question in the second bullet of your vision.

The product sales channels for our cottage bakery example can include:

  • Mobile point-of-sale (POS) : A mobile platform such as Shopify or Square POS for managing in-person sales at local farmers’ markets, fairs and festivals
  • E-commerce platform : An online store such as Shopify, Square or WooCommerce for online retail sales and wholesale sales orders
  • Social media channels : Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest shoppable posts and pins for online sales via social media channels
  • Brick-and-mortar location : For in-store sales , once the business has grown to a point that it can support a physical location

Channels that support other income streams might include:

  • Affiliate income : Blog section on the e-commerce website and affiliate partner accounts
  • Advertising income : Reserved advertising spaces on the e-commerce website
  • E-book sales : Amazon e-book sales via Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing
  • Video income : YouTube channel with ad monetization
  • Webinars and online classes : Online class and webinar platforms that support member accounts, recordings and playback
  • Members-only content : Password-protected website content using membership apps such as MemberPress

Nowadays, the line between marketing and sales channels is blurred. Social media outlets, e-books, websites, blogs and videos serve as both marketing tools and income opportunities. Since most are free and those with advertising options are extremely economical, these are ideal marketing outlets for lean startups.

However, many businesses still find value in traditional advertising such as local radio, television, direct mail, newspapers and magazines. You can include these advertising costs in your simple business plan template to help build a marketing plan and budget.

5. Structure, Suppliers and Operations

This section of your simple business plan template explores how to structure and operate your business. Details include the type of business organization your startup will take, roles and responsibilities, supplier logistics and day-to-day operations. Also, include any certifications or permits needed to launch your enterprise in this section.

Our cottage baker example might use a structure and startup plan such as this:

  • Business structure : Sole proprietorship with a “doing business as” (DBA) .
  • Permits and certifications : County-issued food handling permit and state cottage food certification for home-based food production. Option, check into certified commercial kitchen rentals.
  • Roles and responsibilities : Solopreneur, all roles and responsibilities with the owner.
  • Supply chain : Bulk ingredients and food packaging via Sam’s Club, Costco, Amazon Prime with annual membership costs. Uline for shipping supplies; no membership needed.
  • Day-to-day operations : Source ingredients and bake three days per week to fulfill local and online orders. Reserve time for specialty sales, wholesale partner orders and market events as needed. Ship online orders on alternating days. Update website and create marketing and affiliate blog posts on non-shipping days.

6. Financial Forecasts

Your final task is to list forecasted business startup and ongoing costs and profit projections in your simple business plan template. Thanks to free business tools such as Square and free marketing on social media, lean startups can launch with few upfront costs. In many cases, cost of goods, shipping and packaging, business permits and printing for business cards are your only out-of-pocket expenses.

Cost Forecast

Our cottage baker’s forecasted lean startup costs might include:

Business Need Startup Cost Ongoing Cost Source

Gross Profit Projections

This helps you determine the retail prices and sales volume required to keep your business running and, hopefully, earn income for yourself. Use product research to spot target retail prices for your goods, then subtract your cost of goods, such as hourly rate, raw goods and supplier costs. The total amount is your gross profit per item or service.

Here are some examples of projected gross profits for our cottage baker:

Product Retail Price (Cost) Gross Profit

Bottom Line

Putting careful thought and detail in a business plan is always beneficial, but don’t get so bogged down in planning that you never hit the start button to launch your business . Also, remember that business plans aren’t set in stone. Markets, audiences and technologies change, and so will your goals and means of achieving them. Think of your business plan as a living document and regularly revisit, expand and restructure it as market opportunities and business growth demand.

Construction software is essential for general constructors to plan, manage and track projects. There are many options for construction project management software , but most run on PCs. If the construction company or any of its departments use Apple products, they’re out of luck. That’s why we’ve compiled this list of the best construction software for Mac.

What Is Construction Software for Mac?

Construction software for Mac is simply construction project management software that can run on Apple products or iOS devices. While it’s true that most construction companies use PCs to run operations and projects, that doesn’t mean everyone does. What are Mac users supposed to do when they need construction software?

They’ll need to consult the list below to find construction software for Mac that works on Apple and sometimes both Mac and PC products, which gives companies the most flexibility to plan, manage and track their projects. That includes making schedules on Gantt charts, project calendars and task lists and having dashboards and reports to monitor and control the construction project .

Mac users also need construction software that can track their crew, work hours and daily progress, log hours from the work site and manage resource allocation. Before reviewing the best construction software for Mac, let’s look at the features that construction software must have to allow general contractors and subcontractors to do their jobs and property owners to stay updated.

What Features Make the Best Construction Software for Mac?

When managing a construction project, there are several key features that any construction software for Mac must have to prepare, execute and control the job. The following are those features and a short description of each.

  • Project Planning & Scheduling: Managers often plan projects on Gantt charts , which organize tasks, their duration, resources, costs and more as well as visualize the project on a timeline.
  • Task Management: Gantt charts can identify tasks and organize them, but teams often execute those tasks on task management tools, such as task lists, calendars and kanban boards.
  • Resource Planning: Resources are everything needed to execute the project, from raw materials to site crews, equipment and more. Construction projects plan when those resources are needed and how much of each is necessary for the job.
  • Time Management: With site crews, subcontractors and more, managing time is essential to staying on schedule . Timesheets, dashboards and reporting tools can measure project metrics, such as time, to keep on track.
  • Project tracking: Project tracking involves more than time tracking. There are costs, resources and more than all must be controlled. Having dashboards for a high-level view and reports for a closer look helps avoid over costs and delays.
  • Project reporting: Reporting provides greater visibility into project key performance indicators (KPIs), whether status or portfolio reports, workload, timesheet or project variance reports. They help managers and keep stakeholders updated on progress.
  • Cost management: Costs can be monitored and controlled across construction features, such as timesheets , dashboards and budget baselines.
  • Team Collaboration: Connecting crews on the job site with managers, architects and engineers who might be in the office or transit is essential to keep work moving smoothly.

2024 Best Best Construction Software for Mac

There are many construction software products on the market, some of them Mac-compatible, but that doesn’t mean they’re the best. We’ve done the research and collected the cream of the crop. In that process, we’ve thoroughly reviewed different types of construction project management tools, including:

  • Construction estimating software for Mac
  • Construction accounting software for Mac
  • Construction scheduling software for Mac
  • Construction project management software for Mac

We’ve looked at the best with all these features and more—here are our top picks.

1. ProjectManager

ProjectManager is award-winning construction project management software that has features to manage projects and field teams in the cloud on both PCs and Macs. This effective alternative to more costly construction software alternatives helps general contractors plan, schedule and execute their projects whether in the office or at the job site. Unlimited file storage turns the software into an easily accessible hub for all project documentation.

The mobile app for iOS and Android allows crews to log hours from the job site. Projects update instantly across multiple views, such as Gantt charts, sheets, kanban, list and calendar views or secure timesheets. Risk management tools also identify risks and track and mitigate issues. Custom and automated workflows free teams to focus on more important tasks, while ensuring quality with task approval settings.

Schedule Online

General contractors looking for construction software for Mac will appreciate the robust Gantt charts that do more than organize tasks on a timeline. All four types of task dependencies can be linked to avoid costly delays. It’s simple to filter for the critical path to find essential tasks. A baseline can be set to track planned vs. actual costs and time to help projects stay on schedule and general contractors control costs and keep their profit margins. It’s easy to make changes to the Gantt chart by dragging a taskbar to change deadlines and those updates are reflected across all project views. Those taskbars also allow general contractors to view progress by how much the bar is shaded.

Manage Resources

Tracking time and costs is important, but some construction software for Mac forgets about resources. Having a tool that can make last-minute adjustments and communicate those to the crew avoids using more resources than expected. The Gantt chart and the sheet view, which is a Gantt chart without the timeline, can schedule resources .

The team, any project’s most valuable resource, has their availability set when onboarded, which makes it easier to assign them tasks. Then, the color-coded workload chart or the team page provides an overview of all resource allocations teams can keep a close table on resources. Managers can balance the workload and keep everyone working at capacity and staying productive.

Monitor Progress

Another reason ProjectManager tops the list of best construction software for Mac is that there are so many tools to monitor and control projects. The Gantt chart shows progress and secure timesheets give visibility into labor costs. General contractors can leverage online dashboards and reports for more KPIs and fluid stakeholder management.

Real-time project and portfolio dashboards give a high-level overview to analyze project data and share it with subcontractors. One-click customizable reports go deeper into the details and can be filtered to show only what managers or stakeholders are interested in. They can also be shared across multiple platforms to keep stakeholders updated.

What We Know About the Global Microsoft Outage

Airlines to banks to retailers were affected in many countries. Businesses are struggling to recover.

By Eshe Nelson and Danielle Kaye

Eshe Nelson reported from London and Danielle Kaye from New York.

Across the world, critical businesses and services including airlines, hospitals, train networks and TV stations, were disrupted on Friday by a global tech outage affecting Microsoft users.

In many countries, flights were grounded, workers could not get access to their systems and, in some cases, customers could not make card payments in stores. While some of the problems were resolved within hours, many businesses, websites and airlines continued to struggle to recover.

What happened?

A series of outages rippled across the globe as information displays, login systems and broadcasting networks went dark.

The problem affecting the majority of services was caused by a flawed update by CrowdStrike , an American cybersecurity firm, whose systems are intended to protect users from hackers. Microsoft said on Friday that it was aware of an issue affecting machines running “CrowdStrike Falcon.”

But Microsoft had also said there was an earlier outage affecting U.S. users of Azure, its cloud service system. Some users may have been affected by both. Even as CrowdStrike sent out a fix, some systems were still affected by midday in the United States as businesses needed to make manual updates to their systems to resolve the issue.

George Kurtz, the president and chief executive of CrowdStrike, said on Friday morning that it could take some time for some systems to recover.

Amazon Prime Day  is coming to an end, but you can still shop some of the best Apple MacBook deals we've seen and snag a laptop for much less than full price.

  • See the latest computer lightning deals on Amazon .

Apple laptops get periodic discounts throughout the year, but these MacBook Prime Day deals are a step above what we typically see. We recommend jumping on a record-low $200 discount on the latest 15-inch MacBook Air running the M3 processor. This model is essentially a larger version of the 13-inch MacBook Air, and it's a much more affordable option than the 16-inch MacBook Pro if you prefer larger displays.

Check back here as the sales event winds down. We'll update this page with the best remaining Prime Day MacBook deals. For more savings, check out our complete roundups of all the best Apple Prime Day deals and the best Prime Day laptop deals .

Top 3 MacBook deals

  • Apple MacBook Air 15-inch M3 (2024) $1,299 $1,099 at Amazon
  • Apple MacBook Pro 14-inch M3 Pro (2023) $1,999 $1,699 at Amazon
  • Apple MacBook Air 13-inch M2 (2022) $999 $799 at Amazon

The best Amazon Prime Day MacBook deals

Among the other top MacBook Prime Day deals remaining, you can grab the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro running the M3 processor at an all-time low price .

The 2022 MacBook Air introduced Apple's M2 processor, which improved performance over the M1 version. It has an especially thin and lightweight design, an improved webcam, and a larger display.

best business plan software mac

You no longer need a $2,000 MacBook Pro to get a 15-inch display. The 15-inch MacBook Air stretches your viewing real estate and offers the latest M3 power at a budget-friendly price. The larger screen will also greatly benefit anyone doing lots of media editing or needing to view spreadsheets.

best business plan software mac

The M3 MacBook Pro is yet another excellent device from Apple, but if you have an M2, we'd hold off upgrading. M1 users will notice a considerable improvement, and if you're still using an Intel MacBook Pro, this will basically blow your socks off.

best business plan software mac

Apple's powerful M3 Pro chipset and this base MacBook Pro model's soldered 18GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD storage work together to create a very capable video and music production machine.

Apple's most powerful M3 Max chipset and this MacBook Pro model's soldered 36GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage work together to create Apple's most capable video and music production machine.

There are a lot of MacBook laptops available, and you can generally buy one that fits your budget and be happy. They're all excellent machines that will do just about everything you want from them. As you get into MacBook models with high-performance processors, like the M3 Pro and M3 Max, it'll do everything you want, but faster and better.

Generally, the best Apple laptop for the proverbial "most people" is the 13-inch MacBook Air running the M3 processor. If you like larger displays without spending MacBook Pro money, there's also a 15-inch model of the M3 MacBook Air .

If you're looking for the ultimate value, Apple still sells the M2 MacBook Air , which introduced the series' long-overdue design refresh. Despite running an older M2 processor, it's still incredibly capable — more so than many may realize.

Creative professionals who edit videos and do other visually intensive work will greatly benefit from the M3 Pro and M3 Max processors in the MacBook Pro series, not only for the extra processing but also for extra RAM and storage. These are significantly more expensive than the MacBook Air series, but they're worthwhile expenditures when serious heavy-duty workloads are part of your day-to-day. Larger MacBook Pros with 16-inch displays are also available, starting with the M3 Pro processor.
