When deciding on a planner app, you should obviously look for one with features most relevant to your life and your schedule. It should have a distinct purpose. And It shouldn't be thought of as a one-size-fits all productivity app . Here are the qualities to look for in a good student planner app:

Todoist is a project planner and to-do list all in one. Used by companies like Amazon and Disney, and made for everyone from students to executives, Todoist is an app that can carry you through school and beyond.

Although you can pay to upgrade, the free version offers more than most students are likely to need. Todoist includes features that help you: 

 Enter important details or to-dos in a note-taking section before you forget them

Set up projects for each class and any other activities or hobbies you're involved in

Add "next action" items, so you can always look ahead to your next assignment

Cross items off your checklist without losing them for good

Other helpful features include due dates for individual tasks and reminders that pop up on your phone or email. You can customize every feature, so you won't get lots of notifications without asking for them.

Todoist also allows you to label tasks. You can label by priority, context (laptop work, library, etc.), or any other system you want to create. You can also indicate recurring tasks, like weekly quizzes, so you never miss an assignment.

2. Microsoft To Do

A reworking of the long-appreciated Wunderlist, Microsoft To Do has continued to evolve its features to make it stand out in the field of student planner apps.

One feature that stands out in To Do is that things you didn't check off from previous days stay in the “Yesterday” box. That way you can specifically choose which items to transfer to "My day," and plan a better time for those that won't fit in today's schedule.

To Do allows you to sort tasks into basic lists that you set up, such as "Work," "Home," or "Lab." You can then add subtasks to the items on each list. For example, if your list includes, "Presentation for econ class," create subtasks for "Brainstorm subjects," "Find sources," or other project milestones. 

To Do also includes some features that will please visually oriented people. Dark mode is helpful if you're reviewing your day just before sleep or when you first wake up in the morning. You can also change the background for each list, with lots of modern and inspiring designs.

3. Calendly

Calendly simplifies scheduling with groups and individuals. As group projects have become the new normal, you’ll likely have to set up plenty of meetings with groups and individuals during the course of your time as a student. You can save a lot of time by scheduling and managing those meetings with Calendly.

Connect Calendly with your digital calendar, like Google Calendar , Outlook , and others.

Create a meeting request.

Set the parameters. For example, you can let recipients see your availability, so they can pick a day and time, or you can set a day and time and they can either accept it or request a different time.

Select recipients and send.

Calendly will gather responses from the people you want to meet with, and you'll have a meeting set up without the long texting thread that's usually required.

Other helpful features include the options of Round Robin or collective scheduling on the paid plans. If others share their availability, Calendly will show times that work for everyone, so you can pick. 5. myHomework

The myHomework student planner is a clean and simple planner app for education. Many teachers have already adopted it for e-learning or online instruction, but it's great for individual use as well.

It's formatted for several types of class scheduling, such as block, period, or time-based schedules. myHomework allows you to not only input assignments and add tasks required to complete them, it also allows for prioritizing and categorizing tasks, so you can focus on what's most needed at any given time. You can set reminders for upcoming due dates too, so you don’t miss deadlines by accident (or procrastination).

While you do need internet connectivity to sync with other devices, this homework app still has full functionality even when you're not connected to WiFi. The free version has plenty of great features, but the paid version of this homework planner lets you get rid of ads as well as share assignments, add file attachments to assignments, and switch out your theme.

6. Power Planner

The GPA calculator is more robust in this app compared to others, with its "What if?" feature, which calculates what scores you need on assignments to get an A in a class. 3 tips for getting the most from your student planner app

In addition to finding a great app for students, these tips can help you increase your productivity and keep your schedule running smoothly. No matter which app you choose, you’ll get more out of it if you use it alongside smart planning practices.

1. Treat yourself to a semester review

At the beginning of each semester, set aside a couple of hours to prepare yourself and get everything organized in your app and in your head. Make it fun: Take yourself out for coffee, turn on your favorite music, and turn off your texting and other notifications. This is time to get in the zone.

Give yourself time to look through your new app's features and figure out the best way to use them (or customize them) for you. It's helpful to read reviews, as people will talk about the most useful features. It's also an easy way to learn how to use the app.

This service has three main parts . The first is Chegg Study, which includes textbook solutions, Q&A with subject experts, flashcards, video explanations, a math solver, and writing help. The resources are thorough, and reviewers state that Chegg answers homework questions quickly and accurately no matter when you submit them.  

Chegg also offers textbook rentals for students who need access to textbooks outside of their classroom. Finally, Chegg offers Internship and Career Advice for students who are preparing to graduate and may need a little extra help with the transition out of high school. 

Another great feature Chegg provides is a selection of free articles geared towards helping with general life skills, like coping with stress and saving money. Chegg’s learning modules are comprehensive, and they feature solutions to the problems in tons of different textbooks in a wide variety of subjects. 

Runner Up: Bartleby offers basically the same services as Chegg for $14.99 per month. The reason it didn’t rank as the best is based on customer reviews that say user questions aren’t answered quite as quickly on this site as on Chegg. Otherwise, this is also a solid choice!

Best Site for Math Homework Help: Photomath

• Price: Free (or $59.99 per year for premium services) 
• Best for: Explaining solutions to math problems

This site allows you to t ake a picture of a math problem, and instantly pulls up a step-by-step solution, as well as a detailed explanation of the concept. Photomath also includes animated videos that break down mathematical concepts to help you better understand and remember them. 

The basic service is free, but for an additional fee you can get extra study tools and learn additional strategies for solving common math problems.

Runner Up: KhanAcademy offers in-depth tutorials that cover complex math topics for free, but you won’t get the same tailored help (and answers!) that Photomath offers. 

Best Site for English Homework Help: Princeton Review Academic Tutoring

• Price: $40 to $153 per month, depending on how many hours of tutoring you want 
• Best for: Comprehensive and personalized reading and writing help 

While sites like Grammarly and Sparknotes help you by either proofreading what you write via an algorithm or providing book summaries, Princeton Review’s tutors provide in-depth help with vocabulary, literature, essay writing and development, proofreading, and reading comprehension. And unlike other services, you’ll have the chance to work with a real person to get help. 

The best part is that you can get on-demand English (and ESL) tutoring from experts 24/7. That means you can get help whenever you need it, even if you’re pulling an all-nighter! 

This is by far the most expensive homework site on this list, so you’ll need to really think about what you need out of a homework help website before you commit. One added benefit is that the subscription covers over 80 other subjects, including AP classes, which can make it a good value if you need lots of help!  

Best Site for STEM Homework Help: Studypool

• Best for: Science homework help
• Price: Varies; you’ll pay for each question you submit

When it comes to science homework help, there aren’t a ton of great resources out there. The best of the bunch is Studypool, and while it has great reviews, there are some downsides as well. 

Let’s start with the good stuff. Studypool offers an interesting twist on the homework help formula. After you create a free account, you can submit your homework help questions, and tutors will submit bids to answer your questions. You’ll be able to select the tutor–and price point–that works for you, then you’ll pay to have your homework question answered. You can also pay a small fee to access notes, lectures, and other documents that top tutors have uploaded. 

The downside to Studypool is that the pricing is not transparent . There’s no way to plan for how much your homework help will cost, especially if you have lots of questions! Additionally, it’s not clear how tutors are selected, so you’ll need to be cautious when you choose who you’d like to answer your homework questions.  

What Are the Pros and Cons of Using Homework Help Sites?

Homework help websites can be a great resource if you’re struggling in a subject, or even if you just want to make sure that you’re really learning and understanding topics and ideas that you’re interested in. But, there are some possible drawbacks if you don’t use these sites responsibly. 

We’ll go over the good–and the not-so-good–aspects of getting online homework help below. 

3 Pros of Using Homework Help Websites 

First, let’s take a look at the benefits. 

#1: Better Grades Beyond Homework

This is a big one! Getting outside help with your studies can improve your understanding of concepts that you’re learning, which translates into better grades when you take tests or write essays. 

Remember: homework is designed to help reinforce the concepts you learned in class. If you just get easy answers without learning the material behind the problems, you may not have the tools you need to be successful on your class exams…or even standardized tests you’ll need to take for college. 

#2: Convenience

One of the main reasons that online homework help is appealing is because it’s flexible and convenient. You don’t have to go to a specific tutoring center while they’re open or stay after school to speak with your teacher. Instead, you can access helpful resources wherever you can access the internet, whenever you need them.

3 Cons of Using Homework Help Websites 

Now, let’s take a look at the drawbacks of online homework help. 

#1: Unreliable Info

This can be a real problem. In addition to all the really good homework help sites, there are a whole lot of disreputable or unreliable sites out there. The fact of the matter is that some homework help sites don’t necessarily hire people who are experts in the subjects they’re talking about. In those cases, you may not be getting the accurate, up-to-date, and thorough information you need.

Additionally, even the great sites may not be able to answer all of your homework questions. This is especially true if the site uses an algorithm or chatbot to help students…or if you’re enrolled in an advanced or college-level course. In these cases, working with your teacher or school-provided tutors are probably your best option. 

#2: No Clarification

This depends on the service you use, of course. But the majority of them provide free or low-cost help through pre-recorded videos. Watching videos or reading info online can definitely help you with your homework… but you can’t ask questions or get immediate feedback if you need it .

#3: Potential For Scamming 

Like we mentioned earlier, there are a lot of homework help websites out there, and lots of them are scams. The review comments we read covered everything from outdated or wrong information, to misleading claims about the help provided, to not allowing people to cancel their service after signing up. 

No matter which site you choose to use, make sure you research and read reviews before you sign up–especially if it’s a paid service! 

When Does “Help” Become “Cheating”?

Admittedly, whether using homework help websites constitutes cheating is a bit of a grey area. For instance, is it “help” when a friend reads your essay for history class and corrects your grammar, or is it “cheating”? The truth is, not everyone agrees on when “help” crosses the line into “cheating .” When in doubt, it can be a good idea to check with your teacher to see what they think about a particular type of help you want to get. 

That said, a general rule of thumb to keep in mind is to make sure that the assignment you turn in for credit is authentically yours . It needs to demonstrate your own thoughts and your own current abilities. Remember: the point of every homework assignment is to 1) help you learn something, and 2) show what you’ve learned. 

So if a service answers questions or writes essays for you, there’s a good chance using it constitutes cheating. 

Here’s an example that might help clarify the difference for you. Brainstorming essay ideas with others or looking online for inspiration is “help” as long as you write the essay yourself. Having someone read it and give you feedback about what you need to change is also help, provided you’re the one that makes the changes later. 

But copying all or part of an essay you find online or having someone write (or rewrite) the whole thing for you would be “cheating.” The same is true for other subjects. Ultimately, if you’re not generating your own work or your own answers, it’s probably cheating.

Tip 1: Decide How You Learn Best 

Before you decide which site or sites you’re going to use for homework help, y ou should figure out what kind of learning style works for you the most. Are you a visual learner? Then choose a site that uses lots of videos to help explain concepts. If you know you learn best by actually doing tasks, choose a site that provides lots of practice exercises.

Tip 2: Determine Which Subjects You Need Help With

Just because a homework help site is good overall doesn’t mean that it’s equally good for every subject. If you only need help in math, choose a site that specializes in that area. But if history is where you’re struggling, a site that specializes in math won’t be much help. So make sure to choose a site that you know provides high-quality help in the areas you need it most. 

Tip 3: Decide How Much One-On-One Help You Need 

This is really about cost-effectiveness. If you learn well on your own by reading and watching videos, a free site like Khan Academy is a good choice. But if you need actual tutoring, or to be able to ask questions and get personalized answers from experts, a paid site that provides that kind of service may be a better option.

It feels like homework never stops getting piled on, and keeping track of it all can feel a little chaotic. That’s where a homework schedule comes in. With a good schedule, you won’t have to worry about missing homework assignments or not having enough time to finish them, and it’s surprisingly easy to put one together. Not sure where to start? Understanding What Needs To Get Done

• The subject or course in which the work is assigned (for example, Spanish , algebra , French or English )
• Know what you're expected to hand in or do and ask if you do not understand (for example, turn in an essay , develop a PowerPoint presentation, or take a test.)
• The details of your assignments (for example, double-spaced or single-spaced, blue ink or black).
• Page numbers (which pages you need to read, study, or refer to complete your assignment.)
• Due date of the assignment.

Getting All of Your Homework Done

• To solve this problem, if you cannot meet all the deadlines, use a static priority rate-monotonic policy. Find the course that releases new homework the most frequently, and list it the highest (do the work first), and so forth. This is mathematically optimal among all static-priority scheduling policies. In other words, if ANY static priority scheme can meet all the deadlines, the rate-monotonic static priority scheme will meet all the deadlines, too. When the static priority scheme misses deadlines, it is deterministic - the lowest priority class assignments will be skipped, so it behaves predictably when you are overloaded. If certain assignments have the same due date, then start with the one(s) that are hardest or will take the longest.

• If you have a five-page English paper due on Friday, evenly spread the total amount of hours you believe it is going to take to complete the paper between each day.
• If you have multiple assignments to complete in one night, it may be helpful to start with the most challenging on and leave the easier ones for later.

What is a study plan?

A study plan is an organized schedule outlining study times and learning goals. Just like with work or school schedules, college students should develop a schedule that sets aside dedicated time each week for studying. This schedule should include dates of quizzes, tests, and exams, as well as deadlines for papers and projects.

Why do I need a study plan?

Time management can be challenging. Besides your classes, you likely have other commitments like extracurricular activities, work, and social engagements. Creating a study plan allows you to see how you spend your time, and ensures that you are setting aside enough time outside of class to complete homework assignments, study for tests, and review and retain the information you are learning.

Study plans are particularly important for online students , since you need to have self-discipline and determination to complete your studies without the constant reminders of an instructor.

6 tips for creating a study plan

Follow the guidelines below to get started on creating your study plan:

#1: Analyze your current study habits and learning style – Think about what works and what doesn’t work for you. Are you able to study for long blocks of time once or twice a week, or is it more effective if you study nightly for thirty minutes? Are you more productive at a certain time of day ? Do you retain material better if you study a subject immediately after class, or do you need a break first?

#2: Evaluate your current schedule and time management – Use a digital or paper calendar to block out all of your standing commitments, including classes, work, and extracurricular activities. This will let you see how much of your time is already spoken for, and what time you have available for studying.

If your schedule leaves little room for studying, you may need to evaluate what you can cut back on, or how you can rearrange your schedule to have more open time for studying.

#3: Plan how much time you need to study for each class – For many years, the accepted rule has been that you need to study two hours for every one hour of class time , meaning that if you’re taking a typical 15-credit semester, you will spend 30 hours a week outside of class studying. There is some question about the efficacy of this ratio , especially in light of new technology that makes research and writing faster.

At the beginning of each term, your instructors will give you syllabi for the classes you are taking. The syllabi will usually include the dates of any major exams or projects. You can use these as guides for calculating how much time to set aside for each class, as some courses might be more intensive than others. It will also help you schedule your study sessions to make sure you have enough time to complete all your assignments and prepare for exams.

#4: Develop a schedule – Now that you understand how much time you need for studying, and how much time you have available, you can schedule your study sessions. Add your study sessions to your calendar like any other commitments. This ensures that you remember this is time set aside specifically for studying.

Plan out which subject you will study on which day, to ensure that you’re devoting enough time to each subject. For example, Mondays and Thursdays can be set aside for math, while Tuesdays and Fridays can be devoted to English.

If your schedule is busy, you may have to be somewhat flexible and creative in finding time to study. For example, if you commute to school via public transportation, you can use that time for reading. Or perhaps your job allows you to study when it’s not busy.

#5: Assess your weekly calendar –

Identifying your learning goals for each class will help you determine how much time you need to spend studying. At the start of the term, think about what you want to accomplish in each class. Maybe you want to master a specific skill, or improve your grade. These are overarching goals to help motivate you during the term.

Then, at the beginning of each week, determine why you need to study and what you plan to accomplish in each study session. Are you preparing for a big exam? Is there a paper due? Are you able to read a chapter ahead in preparation for the next few classes? Adjust your study plan as necessary to meet your weekly goals, and get the most out of each study session.

While it is tempting to skip your study session when there isn’t a test looming, you will reduce your future test preparation time by reading ahead and preparing for lectures.

#6: Stick to your schedule – A study plan works best when it is followed consistently. You should try to develop a study plan that you can follow for the length of each term. You will have to adjust your plan as necessary when you switch your classes each term. Remember, the most important thing is sticking to your plan.

#2: Schedule time for other activities By achieving a balanced schedule , your mind will be more receptive during time devoted to studying. If you schedule several long days in a row of studying, you will get discouraged and be tempted to give up. It’s recommended that you schedule time for nonacademic activities, such as exercise, hobbies, and socializing with other students.

#3: Maintain accountability Some students find it helpful to study with a partner, as it provides accountability, as well as opportunities for discussion and collaboration. When creating your study plan, check with other classmates to determine if you can coordinate study sessions. However, if you tend to socialize more than study when you are around others, stick to an independent study plan. If you do have a study partner, make sure it’s someone with whom you are likely to stay on task.

#4: Evaluate your study plan, and adjust as needed Your study plan is all about helping you be more efficient and productive. If you find that it’s not working, don’t get discouraged. It’s ok to make changes as you figure out what works best for you.

If keeping a paper and pen schedule is not helpful to you, consider other ways for keeping your studies on track. Use a calendar app and set reminders when it’s time to start and end your study session. Between schoolwork, online work, homework, products, submitting work, and more, you might feel like you don’t have enough time in the day to plan and complete it.  To keep track of these things and make them a little more manageable, we wanted to give you this free homework planning sheet.  It will help you and your child stay on top of their work.   

I think the hardest part of the homework is learning how to budget time.  This lesson is hard for students to learn (even adults still struggle in this area!).   It’s important to teach our kids to budget & organize their time.  Time management skills are one of the best things we can teach our children. To help our kids tackle the time-management portion of homework, I give them this Homework Planning Sheet  every week.

On top of that, making a “to-do” list helps kids see what has to be done and allows them to check things off once it’s finished.  This gives them a sense of accomplishment.   

This homework planner offers students the benefit of writing down all their tasks, reviewing what they must do, and budgeting their time to fit it all in.   

It gives them a chance to look at the upcoming week and write down everything that they have to do for the week.  They can see exactly what needs to be done and when they need to do it.    We write in things like practice or appointments on certain days, so they can see where they will have limited time.

This homework planner is an easy way to help our kids with time management and organization.

Why do children fall behind on classwork? 

• Procrastination.   Are they setting aside enough time to complete their work?   Are they doing it before other things each day (before relaxing, sports, etc.)
• Confusion.  Does your child understand the material and what they are asked to do for their homework?  Sometimes children ignore their homework because it is too confusing, and they are embarrassed to ask for help, admitting failure. 

Tips to Remember While Doing School Work at Home: 

• Have a system for completed work.   When our kids finish their work and it has been submitted, we keep it in case the teacher can’t find it later (emails get lost, and I didn’t want our kids to have to repeat the work).   We kept one bin per child. We would paperclip the work from the week together and a piece of paper with the date on it (paperclipped to the top of the pile).  We’d throw it into the bin.  Simple. 
• Use this time to teach your child time-management skills.  Work before play.   It’s a lesson best learned when your child is young. 
• Use our Homework Organization Tip (which has worked for us for several years.)

Plan on illegally dumping in a Milwaukee County park? You could soon face a $5,000 fine.

Plan on dumping that old TV or piles of rubble from your driveway remodel?

Milwaukee County residents could soon be hit with a $5,000 fine if they are caught illegally dumping in county-run parks, according to a resolution pushed forward by County Board Supervisor Shawn Rolland.

The resolution calls for a change in the county's ordinances to raise the original civil penalty of $200 for each day the dumping remains on county property to $5,000. The ordinance, which has not been adjusted since 1997, would match what the City of Milwaukee currently imposes if approved by board officials this month.

During a Parks and Culture Committee meeting in May, the Parks Department's director of operations and skilled trades, Peter Bratt, told county supervisors that widespread dumping over the last three years has resulted in 600 hours of staff time devoted to cleanup every year at an annual cost of $14,000, which does not include the cost of hiring outside vendors to clear medical waste.

What type of illegal dumping has been found across Milwaukee County?

Bratt showed more than a dozen photos of illegal waste, including garbage bags, medical waste, mattresses, broken concrete, tires, furniture, clothes, plywood, as well as TVs and electronics.

Which Milwaukee County parks have been hit hardest?

The county has documented 60 instances of large-scale illegal dumping in recent years.

Some of the areas most affected by illegal dumping include the Little Menomonee River Parkway, Lincoln Creek Parkway, McGovern Park and Washington Park.

What steps has Milwaukee County already taken to combat dumping?

To head off illegal dumping the county has removed vehicle access to some of the hardest-hit parks, including installing barriers, and has fostered partnerships with the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office and local friends and community groups to increase surveillance of parkland.

The county has also previously tapped into federal dollars to fund trail conversions to replace road access with a hike and bike trail between West Appleton Avenue and West Mill Road in the northwest side Little Menomonee River Parkway.

The Urban Ecology Center has installed video surveillance in Washington Park.

Netherlands in Euro 2024 chaos as England plans cancelled and UEFA release statement

Netherlands had a horror journey to Dortmund ahead of Wednesday's semi-final as train chaos left them having to fly across Germany before facing England on Wednesday

Netherlands saw their travel plans hugely disrupted as they endured a horror journey to Dortmund ahead of their semi-final with England.

The second of the Euro 2024 last four clashes will be held at Borussia Dortmund's iconic stadium on Wednesday night - but the Dutch had a hard time getting there from Wolfsburg. Ronald Koeman and his squad were due to travel but a blockage on the train tracks halted their journey and left them seeking alternative plans.

As a result the Dutch were forced to make the trip via plane after a police escort guided them to the airport. They flew to Dortmund at 8.20pm local time on Monday - resulting in the scheduled pre-England press conference with Koeman and defender Nathan Ake being called off.

England, meanwhile, have avoided any logistical issues as they enjoy the ideal preparation for the semi-final. It is the Dutch's first last four clash at the Euros since 2004 and Koeman insists, despite the travel disruption, it will have no impact come Wednesday night.

He said: "Strange, but no problem at all. We were in the bus in front of the hotel, we hadn't left yet. The players were able to rest for two to two-and-a-half hours in the hotel. Otherwise they would have had to do that on the train. In the end, the trip was shorter than by train. So it was better to get here this way. It's fine."

UEFA were also quick to relay the travel issues experienced by the Dutch, which led to their press conference being canned. A statement read: "Due to disruption of the Netherlands planned team travel to Dortmund, their arrival time has been significantly delayed and therefore no MD-1 press conference will take place.

"Footage from an interview with the head coach Ronald Koeman will be made available [on Tuesday evening] on the UEFA Media Channel."

The Netherlands came into the tournament as outsiders and finished third in their group, behind both France and Austria. However they've clicked into gear in the knockouts, hammering Romania and then battling back to beat Turkey in Berlin on Saturday night.

The Euros remains the only international tournament the Dutch have ever won - doing so in 1988. Their last meeting with England at a competitive tournament though is one that lives long in the memory for the Three Lions as they secured a triumphant 4-1 success at Wembley back in 1996.

What is Project 2025? What to know about the conservative blueprint for a second Trump administration

Washington — Voters in recent weeks have begun to hear the name "Project 2025" invoked more and more by President Biden and Democrats, as they seek to sound the alarm about what could be in store if former President Donald Trump wins a second term in the White House.

Overseen by the conservative Heritage Foundation, the multi-pronged initiative includes a detailed blueprint for the next Republican president to usher in a sweeping overhaul of the executive branch.

Trump and his campaign have worked to distance themselves from Project 2025, with the former president going so far as to call some of the proposals "abysmal." But Democrats have continued to tie the transition project to Trump, especially as they find themselves mired in their own controversy over whether Mr. Biden should withdraw from the 2024 presidential contest following his startling debate performance last month.

Here is what to know about Project 2025:

What is Project 2025?

Project 2025 is a proposed presidential transition project that is composed of four pillars: a policy guide for the next presidential administration; a LinkedIn-style database of personnel who could serve in the next administration; training for that pool of candidates dubbed the "Presidential Administration Academy;" and a playbook of actions to be taken within the first 180 days in office.

It is led by two former Trump administration officials: Paul Dans, who was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management and serves as director of the project, and Spencer Chretien, former special assistant to Trump and now the project's associate director.

Project 2025 is spearheaded by the Heritage Foundation, but includes an advisory board consisting of more than 100 conservative groups.

Much of the focus on — and criticism of — Project 2025 involves its first pillar, the nearly 900-page policy book that lays out an overhaul of the federal government. Called "Mandate for Leadership 2025: The Conservative Promise," the book builds on a "Mandate for Leadership" first published in January 1981, which sought to serve as a roadmap for Ronald Reagan's incoming administration.

The recommendations outlined in the sprawling plan reach every corner of the executive branch, from the Executive Office of the President to the Department of Homeland Security to the little-known Export-Import Bank. 

The Heritage Foundation also created a "Mandate for Leadership" in 2015 ahead of Trump's first term. Two years into his presidency, it touted that Trump had instituted 64% of its policy recommendations, ranging from leaving the Paris Climate Accords, increasing military spending, and increasing off-shore drilling and developing federal lands. In July 2020, the Heritage Foundation gave its updated version of the book to then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. 

The authors of many chapters are familiar names from the Trump administration, such as Russ Vought, who led the Office of Management and Budget; former acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller; and Roger Severino, who was director of the Office of Civil Rights at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Vought is the policy director for the 2024 Republican National Committee's platform committee, which released its proposed platform on Monday. 

John McEntee, former director of the White House Presidential Personnel Office under Trump, is a senior advisor to the Heritage Foundation, and said that the group will "integrate a lot of our work" with the Trump campaign when the official transition efforts are announced in the next few months.

Candidates interested in applying for the Heritage Foundation's "Presidential Personnel Database" are vetted on a number of political stances, such as whether they agree or disagree with statements like "life has a right to legal protection from conception to natural death," and "the President should be able to advance his/her agenda through the bureaucracy without hindrance from unelected federal officials."

The contributions from ex-Trump administration officials have led its critics to tie Project 2025 to his reelection campaign, though the former president has attempted to distance himself from the initiative.

What are the Project 2025 plans?

Some of the policies in the Project 2025 agenda have been discussed by Republicans for years or pushed by Trump himself: less federal intervention in education and more support for school choice; work requirements for able-bodied, childless adults on food stamps; and a secure border with increased enforcement of immigration laws, mass deportations and construction of a border wall. 

But others have come under scrutiny in part because of the current political landscape. 

Abortion and social issues

In recommendations for the Department of Health and Human Services, the agenda calls for the Food and Drug Administration to reverse its 24-year-old approval of the widely used abortion pill mifepristone. Other proposed actions targeting medication abortion include reinstating more stringent rules for mifepristone's use, which would permit it to be taken up to seven weeks into a pregnancy, instead of the current 10 weeks, and requiring it to be dispensed in-person instead of through the mail.

The Alliance Defending Freedom, a conservative legal group that is on the Project 2025 advisory board, was involved in a legal challenge to mifepristone's 2000 approval and more recent actions from the FDA that made it easier to obtain. But the Supreme Court rejected the case brought by a group of anti-abortion rights doctors and medical associations on procedural grounds.

The policy book also recommends the Justice Department enforce the Comstock Act against providers and distributors of abortion pills. That 1873 law prohibits drugs, medicines or instruments used in abortions from being sent through the mail.

Now that the Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. Wade , the volume states that the Justice Department "in the next conservative administration should therefore announce its intent to enforce federal law against providers and distributors of such pills."

The guide recommends the next secretary of Health and Human Services get rid of the Reproductive Healthcare Access Task Force established by the Biden administration before Roe's reversal and create a "pro-life task force to ensure that all of the department's divisions seek to use their authority to promote the life and health of women and their unborn children."

In a section titled "The Family Agenda," the proposal recommends the Health and Human Services chief "proudly state that men and women are biological realities," and that "married men and women are the ideal, natural family structure because all children have a right to be raised by the men and women who conceived them."

Further, a program within the Health and Human Services Department should "maintain a biblically based, social science-reinforced definition of marriage and family."

During his first four years in office, Trump banned transgender people from serving in the military. Mr. Biden reversed that policy , but the Project 2025 policy book calls for the ban to be reinstated.

Targeting federal agencies, employees and policies

The agenda takes aim at longstanding federal agencies, like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. The agency is a component of the Commerce Department and the policy guide calls for it to be downsized. 

NOAA's six offices, including the National Weather Service and National Marine Fisheries Service, "form a colossal operation that has become one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry and, as such, is harmful to future U.S. prosperity," the guide states. 

The Department of Homeland Security, established in 2002, should be dismantled and its agencies either combined with others, or moved under the purview of other departments altogether, the policy book states. For example, immigration-related entities from the Departments of Homeland Security, Justice and Health and Human Services should form a standalone, Cabinet-level border and immigration agency staffed by more than 100,000 employees, according to the agenda.

If the policy recommendations are implemented, another federal agency that could come under the knife by the next administration, with action from Congress, is the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

The agenda seeks to bring a push by conservatives to target diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI, initiatives in higher education to the executive branch by wiping away a slew of DEI-related positions, policies and programs and calling for the elimination of funding for partners that promote DEI practices.

It states that U.S. Agency for International Development staff and grantees that "engage in ideological agitation on behalf of the DEI agenda" should be terminated. At the Treasury Department, the guide says the next administration should "treat the participation in any critical race theory or DEI initiative without objecting on constitutional or moral grounds, as per se grounds for termination of employment."

The Project 2025 policy book also takes aim at more innocuous functions of government. It calls for the next presidential administration to eliminate or reform the dietary guidelines that have been published by the Department of Agriculture for more than 40 years, which the authors claim have been "infiltrated" by issues like climate change and sustainability.

Immigration

Trump made immigration a cornerstone of his last two presidential runs and has continued to hammer the issue during his 2024 campaign. Project 2025's agenda not only recommends finishing the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, but urges the next administration to "take a creative and aggressive approach" to responding to drug cartels at the border. This approach includes using active-duty military personnel and the National Guard to help with arrest operations along the southern border.

A memo from Immigration and Customs Enforcement that prohibits enforcement actions from taking place at "sensitive" places like schools, playgrounds and churches should be rolled back, the policy guide states. 

When the Homeland Security secretary determines there is an "actual or anticipated mass migration of aliens" that presents "urgent circumstances" warranting a federal response, the agenda says the secretary can make rules and regulations, including through their expulsion, for as long as necessary. These rules, the guide states, aren't subject to the Administration Procedure Act, which governs the agency rule-making process.

What do Trump and his advisers say about Project 2025?

In a post to his social media platform Friday, Trump wrote , "I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they're saying and some of the things they're saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. Anything they do, I wish them luck, but I have nothing to do with them."

Trump's pushback to the initiative came after Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts said in a podcast interview that the nation is "in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be."

But even before Roberts' comments during "The War Room" podcast — typically hosted by conservative commentator Steve Bannon, who reported to federal prison to begin serving a four-month sentence last week — Trump's top campaign advisers have stressed that Project 2025 has no official ties to his reelection bid.

Susie Wiles and Chris LaCivita, senior advisers to the Trump campaign, said in a November statement that 2024 policy announcements will be made by Trump or his campaign team.

"Any personnel lists, policy agendas, or government plans published anywhere are merely suggestions," they said.

While the efforts by outside organizations are "appreciated," Wiles and LaCivita said, "none of these groups or individuals speak for President Trump or his campaign."

In response to Trump's post last week, Project 2025 reiterated that it was separate from the Trump campaign.

"As we've been saying for more than two years now, Project 2025 does not speak for any candidate or campaign. We are a coalition of more than 110 conservative groups advocating policy & personnel recommendations for the next conservative president. But it is ultimately up to that president, who we believe will be President Trump, to decide which recommendations to implement," a statement on the project's X account said.

The initiative has also pushed back on Democrats' claims about its policy proposals and accused them of lying about what the agenda contains.

What do Democrats say?

Despite their attempts to keep some distance from Project 2025, Democrats continue to connect Trump with the transition effort. The Biden-Harris campaign frequently posts about the project on X, tying it to a second Trump term.

Mr. Biden himself accused his Republican opponent of lying about his connections to the Project 2025 agenda, saying in a statement that the agenda was written for Trump and "should scare every single American." He claimed on his campaign social media account  Wednesday that Project 2025 "will destroy America."

Congressional Democrats have also begun pivoting to Project 2025 when asked in interviews about Mr. Biden's fitness for a second term following his lackluster showing at the June 27 debate, the first in which he went head-to-head with Trump.

"Trump is all about Project 2025," Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman told CNN on Monday. "I mean, that's what we really should be voting on right now. It's like, do we want the kind of president that is all about Project '25?"

Rep. Jim Clyburn of South Carolina, one of Mr. Biden's closest allies on Capitol Hill, told reporters Monday that the agenda for the next Republican president was the sole topic he would talk about.

"Project 2025, that's my only concern," he said. "I don't want you or my granddaughter to live under that government."

In a statement reiterating her support for Mr. Biden, Rep. Frederica Wilson of Florida called Project 2025 "MAGA Republicans' draconian 920-page plan to end U.S. democracy, give handouts to the wealthy and strip Americans of their freedoms."

What are Republicans saying about Project 2025?

Two GOP senators under consideration to serve as Trump's running mate sought to put space between the White House hopeful and Project 2025, casting it as merely the product of a think tank that puts forth ideas.

"It's the work of a think tank, of a center-right think tank, and that's what think tanks do," Florida Sen. Marco Rubio told CNN's "State of the Union" on Sunday.

He said Trump's message to voters focuses on "restoring common sense, working-class values, and making our decisions on the basis of that."

Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance raised a similar sentiment in an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," saying organizations will have good ideas and bad ideas.

"It's a 900-page document," he said Sunday. "I guarantee there are things that Trump likes and dislikes about that 900-page document. But he is the person who will determine the agenda of the next administration."

TurboTax parent Intuit said Wednesday it will let go of about 1,800 employees, or 10% of its workforce, as it looks to focus on its AI-powered tax preparation software and other financial products.

The company, which has invested heavily in providing generative AI-powered accounting and tax preparation tools for small and medium businesses in the past few years, expects to close two of its sites in Edmonton, Canada, and Boise, Idaho.

Intuit will rehire 1,800 new people primarily in engineering, product and customer-facing roles, CEO Sasan Goodarzi said in a  note  to employees.

The company, whose shares fell 3.6%, did not provide a timeline for the fresh hiring.

“We believe making these changes from a position of strength is the right move and we view the incremental hiring plans post reduction in workforce as a sign that Intuit remains bullish on its growth prospects, especially as it relates to small businesses and Credit Karma,” Evercore ISI analyst Kirk Materne said.

Intuit, which also makes online accounting software QuickBooks, said it will increase investments in generative AI and plans to expand into new markets including Canada, United Kingdom and Australia.

The note added that 300 roles were being eliminated to streamline work, while consolidating 80 technology roles to sites such as Atlanta, Bengaluru, Tel Aviv and others as part of the layoff plan.

The layoffs will cost Intuit between $250 million and $260 million, with substantial amounts of the charge expected to be incurred in the fourth quarter, the company said in a regulatory  filing .

Intuit expects to grow headcount in fiscal 2025 and beyond, Goodarzi said.

In May, Intuit reported a rise in third-quarter revenue and increased it annual forecasts expecting a boost in demand for its AI-integrated products.

How will student loan forgiveness impact the First State? Here is what you need to know

An estimated 20 million borrowers could benefit from the Biden administration's student loan debt forgiveness plan.

But how do you know if you are eligible?

The income-driven repayment program, Saving on A Valuable Education Plan, will allow borrowers to pay only 5% of their discretionary income.

Initially launched in 2023 , the Biden administration sought to use the SAVE Plan to help not only cut down monthly costs, but also provide early forgiveness for low-balance borrowers, stop growth due to unpaid interest, and ultimately bring down payments to $0 per month.

Now, with this percentage cut in half, many borrowers will also see a similar reduction in their monthly payments.

What's in the Saving on a Valuable Education Plan?

A SAVE plan helps determine how much a resident pays every month based on overall income and family size, and then forgives any remaining loan balances after a certain period.

Under this plan, borrowers were expected to pay 10% of their income every month. This percentage was determined by the difference between one’s adjusted gross income and an income that falls into 225% of the federal poverty line, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

For example, if you make exactly or less than $32,800 per year, your estimated payment will be $0 per month. Or, if you are a single borrower and make $50,000 per year, your payment will be close to $143 per month.

Who's eligible for a SAVE plan?

This new rate will apply to those currently enrolled in a SAVE plan and with undergraduate and/or graduate student loans.

In general, SAVE plans are accessible for federal student borrowers with direct student loan debts. This can include direct subsidized and unsubsidized loans, among others.

How much will you save?

Earlier this year, the Biden administration continued to expand benefits. This included giving student loan borrowers who owe $12,000 or less the chance to have charges cleared after 10 years of payment.

Then, last May, Biden’s administration declared that an additional total of $7.7 billion in loan forgiveness had been approved for over 160,000 eligible borrowers. This included those enrolled in a SAVE plan, as well as those receiving Public Service Loan Forgiveness and in similar income-driven repayment programs.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, this approval raised the total amount of loan forgiveness to roughly $167 billion for 4.75 million residents in the U.S. – including those living in Delaware.

A recent Department of Education report found that 3,030 borrowers in the First State were approved for student loan forgiveness under a PSLF plan; 1,460 under SAVE; 3,170 under an IDR adjustment; and 4,630 borrowers for both IDR and SAVE from October 2021 to May 2024.

As of this April, close to 8 million borrowers have been enrolled in a SAVE plan – a little over 4 million of whom now have $0 payments.

Borrowers interested in enrolling in a SAVE or an IDR plan can do so online at studentaid.gov/idr/ .

While there is no set income restriction to be eligible for a SAVE plan, a more in-depth list of requirements is available on the Federal Student Aid website .

Former Kmart site is now a Chili's island. Are there plans for development?

In the 800 block of the bustling South College Road, one lone chain restaurant is situated on a largely vacant plot of land.

The area that once also hosted a Kmart and a Burger King is now a distinct Chili's island, where a single Chili's Grill and Bar resides. The Kmart building sits stripped of its signage and empty, while the old Burger King building has since been torn down.

Small green weeds sprout from the parking lot, while next door, another undeveloped site appears equally untouched.

How has the nearly 13-acre property at 815 S. College Road remained vacant for so long, despite its location in a main retail center of Wilmington, and are any development plans currently in the works?

When did the Kmart close?

The Kmart formerly located on the property closed in 2017, according to previous StarNews reporting . The store closure was one of 78 Kmart stores to close nationwide within the first half of that year.

Who currently owns the property?

The current owner of the property is Z. A. Sneeden's Sons Inc., according to the city's development tracker. The property, which includes both the 815 and 819 S. College Road addresses, was originally purchased in 1972 for $375,000 and now has a tax value of approximately $4.9 million.

The Wilmington real estate developer also has ownership of 805 S. College Road, the location of a former Burger King. The building located on this property has since been demolished.

The StarNews attempted to contact the owners of Z. A. Sneeden's Sons Inc. but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Why is such a large property in Wilmington still vacant?

Filling large commercial spaces is far from a quick process.

The leasing process for large commercial spaces can take five to six months, Brian Grabowski previously said to the StarNews . Grabowski is the senior vice president with Trademark Properties based out of Raleigh and was the listing agent for the former Dick's Sporting Goods at 816 S. College Road.

Locations remaining vacant for 18 to 24 months is relatively normal, Tom Heitman, owner and CEO of Wilmington Commercial & Residential Real Estate, previously told the StarNews.

Still, seven years is longer than an expected two-year vacancy. The delay could possibly be attributed to the owner's intentions rather than the property's leasing or selling potential. Heitman previously referred to the former Kmart site as a "special case," noting that the owners of the property don't seem to be in any hurry for redevelopment.

The site hasn't lacked attempts at redevelopment. Plans for an apartment complex and additional retail space at the former Kmart site were pitched in October 2017, according to previous StarNews reporting.

The complex could've housed approximately 900 residents in a variety of one-, two-, and four-bedroom apartments. New retail spaces, parking decks, and surface parking were also part of the proposed plans which ultimately fell through.

Are there any future plans for development?

Any future plans for redevelopment are not immediately evident.

While 815 S. College Road, Wilmington, was previously listed for lease by a Charlotte-based listing broker and agent, the property currently shows as no longer available for lease. The former listing highlights multiple aspects of the property, including the area's high traffic volume, proximity to other retail spaces, and 12.75 acres.

No new activity for the property's address appears on the New Hanover County development activity map .

In addition, the city of Wilmington has not received any new applications for development of 815 S. College Road within the past year, Dylan Lee with the city's communications office said in an email.

Wilmington's comprehensive plan identifies the site as an urban mixed-use center and an area of opportunity, according to previous StarNews reporting.

Some have speculated that University of North Carolina Wilmington should redevelop the property due to its proximity to the university's campus. In July 2023, Andrea Weaver, chief marketing and communications officer with UNCW, said the university did not have plans to purchase, redevelop, or lease the site in an email to the StarNews.

"The university's plans about the property ... have not changed," Weaver said in an email this July.

Are there any new developments nearby?

A former Honda dealership bordering the lot of the former Kmart will be redeveloped into 298 apartments and 15,000 square feet of retail space, according to previous StarNews reporting . Though, the lot still remains vacant.

The project is led by the Bella Vista Development Group. Originally, construction at the site was expected to begin at the end of 2023 and last for two years, according to previous StarNews reporting. The project faced delays in the technical review from the city.

While the current status of the project is unknown, the proposed redevelopment, located at 821 S. College Road has been released for construction, Lee said in an email. The StarNews was unable to contact with Mariana Molina, president and founder of Bella Vista Development Group, before publication.

No new applications for additional projects near the former Kmart site have been submitted to the city within the past year, Lee said.
