Is your dog's birthday coming up, and are you looking for memorable ideas to help celebrate? Your dog showers your family with unconditional love, affection, and loyalty, so return the favor with doggy-approved desserts and gifts at a special birthday event.

From dog-friendly birthday cakes and treats to fun party favors for guests, read on for some easy—and adorable—ways to make your favorite pooch's birthday "paw-ty" memorable.

Choose the Perfect Present

@mojo_toypoodle / Instagram

Let's face it: Our dogs are spoiled every single day, but their birthdays are a legitimate reason for some serious doggy spoilage! Whether your pooch prefers tennis balls, Kongs, or softer, homemade toys, there's no better reason than its birthday to hit up the toy aisle at your pet store.

Another fun (and hilariously adorable) idea: Put your pup in a room with a ton of tennis balls and watch the excitement ensue.

Deck the Halls

@lilibundesigns / Instagram

You've helped your friends and family decorate for a million birthday parties, so it's only appropriate that you decorate for your precious pooch's birthday.

Balloons and streamers are standard birthday party decor, of course, but there are tons of doggy-themed ways to do it up, too. Make a cute, bone-shaped banner with construction paper and yarn or twine, toss dog-friendly confetti on all of the tables, and—if you're a little bit craftier—make a chalkboard sign with the drink and snack menu.

If you're not super crafty, you can buy doggy-themed banners online instead.

Make Dog-Friendly Pupcakes

@pawsweetbakery / Instagram

Believe it or not, lots of dog-friendly birthday cakes are human-friendly, too. All you need are some everyday baking ingredients, such as whole-wheat flour, baking soda, eggs, and applesauce or baby food, to make an amazing canine cake. Blend in shredded veggies such as carrots for a boost of nutrients and top it with cream cheese, peanut butter, or blended bananas .

Don't feel like breaking out the baking gear? No dog has ever turned down peanut butter paired with his favorite treats.

Doggie Ice Cream

@hugosicecreamery / Instagram

Although real ice cream isn't great for your dog's gastrointestinal tract, it's easy to whip up some puppy-approved ice cream at home with ingredients you probably already have in your pantry. Blend bananas with plain yogurt and creamy peanut butter, then freeze overnight to get the right consistency. You can also make puppy ice pops with one basic ingredient: Chicken or beef broth. Simply pour it into a mold and freeze.

DIY Some Cute Party Wear

There's literally nothing cuter in the world than a party hat on a puppy. It's super-easy to make your own by gluing—be sure to choose the non-toxic kind—construction paper, poster board, or foam paper into a cone shape. Then, decorate with a permanent marker, pompoms, tassels, or any other accouterments that will make your pupper feel extra festive.

What if your dog won't wear its party hat for longer than 20 seconds? Whip up a no-sew bandana with some cute fabric and fabric glue or hemming tape or a no-sew tutu with elastic and strips of tulle.

Invite the Entire Squad

@canine_excellence / Instagram

What's a puppy party without your dog's entire gang? Invite the crew over for a day of running, snacks, and sniffing in celebration of your furry family member's birth.

Put out plenty of water and, if the other pet parents are OK with it, some snacks for paw-ty guests. Portioned dog treats, sliced frozen bananas, baby carrots, and green beans are all healthy snacks that are easy for dogs to pick up and munch on.

Be sure to keep a close eye on your dog and its guests while they're playing. Even the best dog buds can have misunderstandings sometimes.

Don't Forget About the Humans

Aside from an afternoon of cute dog shenanigans, you have to give your human guests some incentive to come to the puppy party, too. Enter, delicious party foods and drinks. Whip up a few party favorites like chicken wings, spinach, and artichoke dip, and deviled eggs, serve beer, wine, or—if you're really into the party theme—a custom cocktail in honor of your doggy's day.

Set Up a Photo Booth

@wagbooth / Instagram

Strike a paws! Make your own photo booth backdrop, grab some props (that your guests may or may not tolerate for a few seconds), and get 'gramming! Have your guests upload their photos to Instagram or Facebook with a custom hashtag (every happening event has one!), so you can see all of the fun in one place.

@caseythecollie / Instagram

The best part of these dog-friendly party games  is that they're actually basic training techniques disguised as fun! Make sure you have plenty of toys (and treats) for games like hide-and-seek and fetch, which help dogs practice commands like "sit," "stay," "come," and "fetch."

If you really want to take your puppy party games to the next level, try a round of Snoopy Says. Like the human version, Simon Says, participants listen to commands and make certain movements. The last pupper standing wins!

Make Paw-ty Favors for Guests

What's a birthday party without a jam-packed favor bag? Include some small toys, such as a tennis ball or chew toy, a handful of dog bones or jerky sticks, a party hat or bandana, and, of course, some on-the-go treats for the humans, too.

This depends on you! Your dog's birthday can be on the actual day it was born (if you know it, give or take), or on its "gotcha" day, the day you adopted it. Our opinion? Have as many birthday parties as you want!

Dogs cannot eat chocolate, and should not eat a cake made for humans. However, there are plenty of healthy recipes on the internet for you to make for your pup. Additionally, there are great deliverable birthday cakes your dog is sure to love.

Various breeds of dogs have different lifespans, but as a general rule, canines live from 10 to 15 years.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday

Is your dog a member of your family? If you answered yes, then we are totally twinning, because same.

We’re not weird, and we’re not alone.

Recent studies have shown that people can come to have the same type of bond and attachment to their dogs as parents do with their children.

So it’s no wonder why many of us often go out of our way to celebrate our fur babies and their milestones, especially when it comes to birthdays and Gotcha Days. And why wouldn’t we?

Our dogs bring us loads of unconditional love, an insane amount of entertainment, and the comforting consistency of a forever friend.

So, is your fur baby’s Gotcha Day or birthday is just around the corner? Are you racking your brain for ideas on how to show your canine child just how much he means to you?

Then you’re in luck because I have tons of ideas.

Many of my clients take their fur-parenthood very seriously and love to throw big birthday bashes for their four-legged children.

Trust me, I’ve seen it all, and I’ve listed fifteen of the best, most affordable, and uber-successful dog birthday celebration ideas I’ve experienced.

But before we dive in, let’s talk about your unique dog.

Before you decide to go all out and throw a totally hype and wild bday shindig for your pooch, I encourage you to consider his unique personality.

If you really want to throw your dog a birthday celebration he will love, make sure you actually do something for him he will enjoy.

For example, if you have a highly anxious dog or a dog who has not been very well socialized , has noise phobias , or prefers life as a homebody, don’t force him outside of his comfort zone and try to “make him” have a good time.

And if you fall in love one of the fifteen doggy birthday ideas below but it doesn’t mesh with your dog’s personality, don’t be discouraged.

It’s totally easy to modify any one of these ideas to suit your dog’s unique needs and temperament.

Remember, it’s your dog’s special day, so you want to make sure it’s fun for him! Now let’s get celebrating!

1. Invite Your Dog’s Friends Over for A Doggy Birthday Party!

This is a great option for dogs who are total social butterflies.

If your dog attends a doggy daycare, enjoys going on group walks, loves dog park days, or even just enjoys meeting new fur-friends when out and about with you, then he’s sure to love having a dog-filled birthday party in his own backyard!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 1

An added bonus? This can also be a social gathering for you as well! A few good friends of mine also have dogs and we get our pups together for playdates and birthday celebrations all the time.

If you are lucky enough to have buds like that and all your dogs get along, then why not invite them and their pups over for some birthday festivities?

To host a fun and easy dog birthday party at home, you can offer

  • Tiny birthday hats for the guests
  • Goody bags filled with dog treats
  • A dog-friendly birthday cake
  • Designated play areas where dogs can swim in a baby pool, play fetch, or just snooze on some fuzzy blankets in the shade.

However, I should note that even well-trained dogs can have potty accidents , so I would recommend hosting your dog’s birthday party outside in your backyard as opposed to inside your home. Unless of course, you are willing to do a lot of damage control afterward.

Remember, it’s easier to clean potty spots from grass and dirt than it is carpet!

But does a doggy birthday party at home sound like too much work? No worries! There are plenty more ideas below.

2. Take Your Dog to the Dog Park and Bring Treats for All His Friends.

If hosting your dog’s birthday celebration at your home seems a bit overwhelming, you can always opt to take the party elsewhere, like to a dog park!

Is your dog a regular at one of his local dog parks ? Then taking him to his favorite hangout on his special day may be a perfect and easy way to celebrate!

You can make the event super fun by bringing little gift bags of dog treats to hand out to the other dog park attendees.

Keep in mind, however, that some dogs have food allergies and can be sensitive to grains or other food ingredients.

Know the kinds of treats you are handing out and make sure you ask the dogs’ owners first if their pet can eat the type of treats you have brought.

If you are worried about dogs with sensitivities, I recommend going for grain free treat options or treats that use meat-free protein sources for dogs with sensitivities.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 2

Perhaps your dog doesn’t go to the dog park but he does attend a doggy daycare or is involved with a local dog walking service ?

You can always implement his birthday by dropping treats by his boarding facility or asking his walker if they could do something special for him.

3. Spend One-On-One Time With Your Dog at A Public Park

Bring a picnic along for you and your furry BFF and just spend the day hanging out with him.

He’ll love the change of scenery and the chance to smell all the new smells and see all the new sights!

Most of all, he’ll love the quality time he’ll get to spend with his favorite person – YOU!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 3

For especially intelligent dogs, you can take this time to learn new tricks together using treats, praise, and other forms of positive reinforcement.

Time spent training can be fun and mentally stimulating for many dogs, not to mention it can help to build a stronger bond between you and your furry friend.

What better way to celebrate your special four-legged counterpart than by giving him all your attention and loading him up with even more tricks to amaze people with?

4. Take Your Dog Camping and Just Let Him Dog

Most dogs I know love camping. They love the new smells, being out in the wild, and just hanging out with their human pack.

If your dog is a camper at heart, why not take him camping for his special day?

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 4

If your schedule or budget doesn’t allow for a full-on a camping trip, you can always take a few hours out of your day to take your dog hiking and explore some new trails.

Let your dog get totally dirty. Let him roll in the grass and play in the mud, and just full out dog all day long. Trust us, he’ll love every second of it and so will you!

5. Make Your Dog Homemade Dog Treats.

Looking for something cozy and cute to do with your pooch for his special day?

Sometimes the simple things lead to the best memories. If you love to cook (and even if you don’t) making homemade treats for your dog can be a fun and rewarding experience for both of you.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 5

Your dog will love hanging out in the kitchen with you and licking the spoons, and he’ll especially love the surprising result when he finds out that everything you were making, you were making for him!

There are tons of recipes online for homemade dog treats, but this is one of my favorite videos showing how to easily make some super tasty DIY dog goodies your pup will love.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3Mb9RyW3V4

Remember, not all human foods are safe for doggy consumption. Be aware of unhealthy or toxic foods and make sure you only include dog-safe ingredients in your pet’s dog treats.

6. Treat Your Dog With A Doggy Birthday Cake!

Have you ever seen a dog get down with a doggy birthday cake? I have! Move over one-year-old babies – dogs eating birthday cake is the new cute thing.

It’s adorable how dogs seem to know that the birthday cake is for them and how they just go wild for the first bite!

Of course, we’re not talking about a humane-style birthday cake with frosting and chocolate.

The right birthday cake for your dog is going to be totally dog-friendly and will be free of any harmful ingredients.

You can make your own doggy birthday cake, like the video below shows, or you can purchase one at a local pet bakery in your area. (I swear dog bakeries are a thing. Google it!)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYM97ZhArQ8

If your dog has food allergies and you worry that making a cake from a recipe online or ordering a dog cake from a dog bakery will make him sick, you can always do a little digging and make your dog his own special dog cake from scratch depending on his unique dietary needs.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 6

If you do choose to make your dog’s cake from scratch, be aware of what kinds of foods are safe for your dog to eat and what kinds of foods are toxic to him, and be especially cautious of giving your dog sweets on his birthday.

Remember, many human foods and goodies contain something known as Xylitol , which is an artificial sweetener found commonly in human foods.

Xylitol is an extremely toxic product to dogs

7. Make a Birthday Backdrop for Photo Ops So You Can Capture All The Birthday Memories!

Grab your camera and get your dog ready for his closeup!

Since you are going to all the trouble to celebrate your dog’s birthday, why not capture the moment? Set up a photo wall or photo booth for your dog and take amazing dog pictures in front of the backdrop.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 7

Giving your dog a birthday backdrop doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. You can buy inexpensive birthday backdrops almost anywhere online or at most general merchandise stores like Target and Walmart.

Of course, you can also get creative and make your dog’s birthday backdrop yourself!

Here is a fun video of how one creative woman made a super adorable photo backdrop by hand!

8. Set Up A Doggy Ball Pit In Your Backyard!

When I throw events for my furry clients, I like to bring along a doggy ball pit. You’d be surprised how easy, cheap and fun it always turns out to be!

Even dogs you don’t think would enjoy it do, and once the dogs get going, it’s hard to stop them.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 8

Not only will your dog love playing in the ball pit, but it’ll also be great exercise for him! If your dog is a bit shy of the ball pit at first, you can always gently encourage him by tossing some of his favorite treats into the pit and letting him dig for them.

You can order a ball pit for your dog online, or you can easily make one yourself.

To make your own doggy ball pit, you will need

  • A plastic baby pool
  • A large bag of plastic ball pit balls (you can find these at most major merchandise stores or even order them online)

9. Wrap Toys and Treats and Let Your Dog Go Wild Unwrapping His Gifts!

This is a great birthday idea for dogs who are fearful or anxious because it can be a quiet event just you and your dog can partake in at home.

But what about the gifts?

If you don’t want to break the bank, there are tons of DIY dog presents you can make for your dog at home.

Need some ideas? Try making your dog a homemade dog bed , some homemade toys, snuggly DIY dog blankets , homemade dog games , or even some homemade dog dinners !

There are plenty of recipes and DIY tutorials online, so even if you aren’t Betty or Bart Homemaker, you can still come up with something amazing that your dog will love!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 9

If you prefer to buy your dog his gifts, again, I suggest you consider his personality. If he’s pretty brainy, try looking into getting him some puzzle toys to keep him occupied.

You can also go with the basics, like fun new squeaky toys, new leashes or harnesses your dog may need, and even some necessities like poop bags and grooming tools !

10. Set Up A Doggy Scavenger Hunt In Your Own Backyard.

Dogs love to use their noses and in fact, sniffing is a good and healthy pastime for dogs.

All the more reason to set up a fun and tasty doggy scavenger hunt for your pup around your house or in your backyard!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 10

Similar to an Easter egg hunt, you’ll want to collect a few of your dog’s favorite (and most smelly) treats and plant them around the house or backyard, and then let your dog sniff them out.

While you don’t want to hide these treats in places that will be impossible for your dog to find, I do suggest making your dog work a bit.

Let him dig around in some leaves or through some shrubs to find his prize! Hide treats under his dog bed, bury them in the garden hose, and plant them around his favorite potty tree. Then get ready for some adorable entertainment!

11. Take Your Dog Swimming!

My dog absolutely hates water and doggy bathtime is her worst nemesis. Of course, not all dogs are like my dog.

Many dogs love to swim and can’t get enough of the water! If this sounds like your pooch, then don’t hesitate to find a fun place to take him swimming.

If the weather permits, you can find a dog-friendly lake, beach, or even pool in your area and get splashing!

Remember, just because your dog likes water doesn’t mean he is a good swimmer. Celebrate safely by taking precautions and make sure you never leave your pup unattended in water. I also suggest getting your dog a life vest.

Hey, it can be one of his birthday presents!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 11

Taking your dog for a birthday swim is a great option if your pup is especially energetic .

However, I do want to note that it’s important to make sure your dog is up to date on all of his doggy vaccinations before taking him to public places like dog pools and lakes.

The Lepto Vaccine may be especially important for dogs who spend a lot of time in and around lakes, so talk with your vet about your options to make sure your dog stays healthy while he’s celebrating his big day.

12. Take Your Dog to the Pet Shop and Let Him Pick His Own Present.

Why not take a trip to your local pet shop and bring your dog along? Let him explore the isles and pick out a brand new squeaky toy , bone, or treat bag!

Don’t think your dog is clever enough to pick out his own birthday present?

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 12

You may be surprised! Many dogs perk up when they get to the dog toy aisle or the doggy treat aisle due to the yummy smells and all the colorful sites and sounds.

Trust me, a dog knows a dog toy when he sees one!

13. Take Your Dog for A Drive in the Country.

Does your dog love car rides as much as mine does?

While not all dogs enjoy going for a ride in the car , many dogs do, so why not take a road trip with your favorite furry friend?

Grab your gear and grab your dog! It’s time to hit the road for his birthday celebrations! Taking a roadtrip with your dog won’t only be a blast for him, but for you as well!

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 13

Remember, safety should always come first when traveling with your dog . I always recommend securing your dog safely in your car for any duration of travel. Of course, whether you use a travel crate or doggy seatbelts i s up to you.

14. Treat Your Pup Like The Royalty He Is All Day Long

Along with pampering your dog with yummy treats and new dog toys , you can also just let him lounge around the house and do all of his favorite things for the day.

With that being said, I don’t suggest allowing your dog to break usual house rules just because it’s his special day.

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 14

While I am the first to say that dogs are way smarter than we give them credit for, that doesn’t mean your dog understands it’s his birthday.

Suddenly allowing your dog to do things he normally isn’t allowed to do could backfire and cause confusion and frustration for both you and your pup down the road.

15.  Have A Full-Blown Doggy Game Day With The Whole Family!

Your dog makes your whole family happier, right? So it makes sense that you want to give him back the same joy and happiness he gives you.

That’s why celebrating his big day with his favorite pack (his human family) is going to be the best birthday for him imaginable.

You can go as a family to the park and play fetch with your dog, start up a game of football that is canine inclusive or even go on a family hike with your family and pup. Just remember to bring your hiking gear !

15 Fun Ways To Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday 15

Other Ways You Can Make Your Dog’s Birthday Epic.

As I mentioned in the beginning, the whole point of celebrating your dog’s birthday is to show him how much he means to you, so it’s important you make the day fun for him and try to avoid stressing him out.

While it can be tempting for us as dog parents to want to push the things we think are fun and cute on our dogs, not all dogs will be into getting dressed up , wearing birthday hats, or hanging out in overstimulating environments.

Watch your dog’s body language and try not to force him to do anything you can tell he’s not comfortable with, especially if you want to give him a birthday that is fun for him.

And for especially anxious dogs or senior dogs, you may just want to celebrate at home without making too much of a fuss. A good movie night with some dog-themed movies may be just what your dog wants and needs to feel safe, loved, and happy on his birthday.

Dog birthday party: how to throw the ultimate bash.

homework dog birthday

Celebrating your pup’s birthday is a fun way to show them some extra love on their special day. And what better way to do it than with a dog birthday party? After all, they are part of the family. If you already throw a yearly dog birthday bash for your furry friend, you are not alone. According to the Humane Society , 77 percent of pet owners celebrate their pup’s special day by throwing a party or buying them a gift or special treat.

But before you send out those invitations, make sure you’ve covered all your bases. Here are some tips to help you throw a fun, safe and successful birthday party for dogs.

Dog Birthday Party Planning

Planning a dog birthday party should be fun and far from stressful. Like any festivity, start planning well in advance to secure all the necessary items, such as the location, cake, and party supplies. Here’s a checklist to help you plan your dog’s birthday party.

Pick a date and time

Choose a date that’s on or close to your dog’s actual birthday (or adoption date). Weekends are typically best as to not interfere with work or school schedules. You may also want to reach out to some of your guests in advance to see if they are available before confirming the date and time.

Choose a location

Pick a safe, dog-friendly location that your pup likes. This can be your backyard, a local dog park , or a dog birthday party venue. Be sure to check the weather forecast: if it’s too hot or cold, you may want to have the party indoors.

Decide on a budget

Dog birthday parties can get expensive depending on how many guests are attending, how elaborate your cake and decorations are, and if you need to rent a venue. To be sure you don’t go over your budget, decide how much you want to spend in advance and factor all of these things in before inviting your guests.

Make a guest list

You’ll want to invite your pup’s best pals and their humans to the birthday party. Keep in mind the venue size, as well as your budget for food, drinks, desserts, party supplies, and dog birthday party favors.

Invite guests

Include your theme in your dog birthday party invitations. You can send invites via email, an online invitation service like Evite, or social media. Be sure to send out your invitations at least two weeks in advance, as well as a party reminder a day or two before the big day.

You should also mention any rules or safety requirements in your invitations, such as supervision and bringing leashes for each pet. “Make sure you tell the dog parents that they will be required to come and supervise their own dogs,” says Charlotte Reed, a petrendologist and producer/host of the nationally syndicated radio show The Pet Buzz . “I do not allow dog parents to just drop off dogs at my parties.”

Dog Birthday Party Prep

Have fun with the planning process as you work through the following details:

Pick a theme

Set the mood for the party with a fun theme. This could be a superhero or princess theme, or a famous dog from a movie or TV show like The Secret Life of Pets or Scooby Doo . But even a simple theme will do, such as a luau, winter wonderland, or fun color scheme.

Decorations are essential for creating a fun and festive atmosphere. You can look for dog-themed decor or tablecloths, balloons, banners, or streamers based on the theme you’ve chosen. And don’t forget to buy paper or plastic cups, plates, napkins, and utensils for all the guests.

Set the menu

Decide if you’ll be serving a meal (for the human guests) or just snacks and dessert. Some common meals are BBQ, sandwiches, or pizza. “We recommend easy grab-and-go bites because everyone will be running around keeping up with their fur babies while snapping those IG-worthy moments,” says Luke Silverman, founder and CEO of Bark Social , a dog social club and birthday party venue.

Serve specialty drinks

Specialty cocktails and mocktails are a hit at every party. Silverman recommends serving human specialty drinks and matching with dog-friendly versions, such as pupmosas, puptinis, or puplomas, using dog-safe ingredients like whipped cream, broth, or watermelon .

Decide on dessert

Whether it’s a dog birthday cake, pupcakes, or some extra-special dog treats, you’ll want something to serve to your birthday boy or girl and all of their friends while you sing “Happy Birthday.” Doggie desserts can be homemade or purchased at a local dog bakery. You’ll also want to provide a dessert for the pet parents, such as cookies or cupcakes.

Dog-proof your dog birthday party venue

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure your dog’s birthday party spot is safe, secure, and completely dog-proofed. If the party is in a backyard, check that there are no holes in fences, sharp objects, foxtails , or anything else that could harm a pup. You can use a gate or fence to block off any sections of the yard that are not safe for canine visitors. Also consider having a secluded area to use if a pup gets a little too rowdy and needs a “time out.” And be sure to provide plenty of water and doggie poop bags!

Dog Birthday Party Activities and Games

Once the initial meet and greets wear off (there will be plenty of rear sniffing !), have a few simple games and activities planned that will engage both the dogs and their humans. Based on whether you will be indoors or out, there are several fun birthday party ideas for dogs that will make your pup’s party a real hit.

Silverman suggests interactive activities, such as bobbing for apples, dog-friendly cookie decorating, or “Pupcasso.” This is “where each dog and their owner receives a board with dog-safe ‘paint’ ( peanut butter )…when the dog licks the peanut butter, [their] tongue acts like a paintbrush and spreads the paint into a freeform design,” he explains.

Other fun activities to consider are a dog trick contest or a puppy piñata filled with treats. And on a hot day, you can keep the party cool with water games, such as swimming pool fetch, water tag using a toy water gun, or a sprinkler agility course, where humans and their pups run through an obstacle course of sprinklers. Just don’t forget to provide prizes (dog treats) for the winners!

Making Your Dog’s Birthday Party Extra Special

homework dog birthday

To make your furry friend’s big day unforgettable, here are a few additional dog birthday party ideas and details to consider:

Party favors

Dog birthday party favors are always a hit at a canine celebration. Consider treats or dog “cookies” from a dog bakery to be enjoyed another day, since your pup will likely have had more than enough treats for one day by the time the party’s over. You may also want to share a cute favor for the pet parents too! Paw-shaped soaps, doggie ornaments, or even a festive koozie are all fun ideas for your human guests.

Every party needs music! Make a playlist of fun party songs and be sure to include some dog-themed tunes , such as Who Let the Dogs Out? and Hound Dog .

If your dog isn’t opposed to wearing clothing, you can pick out a fun birthday shirt, bandana, or party hat for them to wear at their party. This will make for great pictures, and your pup will love all the extra attention! Just make sure your pup is comfortable in whatever attire you choose; never force an outfit on a dog.

Birthday gift

Don’t forget a birthday present for your furry friend. This could be anything from a new toy to a special treat.

Take lots of pictures

Capture the memories of your dog’s birthday party with lots of photos. You can even hire a professional pet photographer or delegate a friend to take some candid shots of your birthday pup and their furry friends.

10 fun ways to celebrate your dog's birthday

10 Fun Ways to Celebrate Your Dog’s Birthday

Last updated on February 27, 2024 By Puppy Leaks 20 Comments

Celebrate dog birthday

Looking for some nice and simple ways to celebrate your dog’s birthday? You’ve come to the right place. Our dogs are part of the family, so when it comes to their birthday we want to make it special. The good news is there’s plenty of fun and easy ways to make your dog’s birthday a memorable one.

So if you’re not sure what to do to celebrate your dog’s birthday don’t worry, I’ve got you covered. From hosting your own doggie birthday party to having a special movie night, here’s 10 fun ways to celebrate your dog’s birthday.

1. Host a Doggie Birthday Party

If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate your dog’s birthday you can host your own doggie birthday party . Invite some of your friends and family over (along with their friendly dogs) to celebrate.

If you’ve never had a bunch of dogs over to your home before I recommend starting small. When it comes to doggie birthday parties there’s nothing wrong with keeping it intimate; having a few dog friends over will be more than enough to make it a memorable day for your dog. You can serve dog friendly cake, give out “doggie bags” filled with treats & goodies, and play some fun doggie games .

If you’re going to be holding your dog’s birthday party outside remember to make sure that all of the dogs have access to fresh water and shade at all times. And remember to keep an eye on things and make sure the dogs are supervised at all times.

2. Let Your Dog Pick Out a Gift

If you’re looking to get your dog an extra special gift for their birthday try letting them pick it out themselves. Take your dog to your local dog-friendly pet store and have them browse the aisles and pick out their own gift.

It sounds simple enough, but the act of going to the store to begin with will be fun for your dog. And to let them pick out any toy they want? Even better.

3. Make a (Dog Friendly) Cake or Treats

You can show your dog some extra love on their birthday by making them a special treat. You can make your dog a simple pupcake (dog friendly cake) by using some puppy cake mix , or you can try out one of these homemade dog cake recipes:

  • Doggie Birthday Cake
  • Mini-Berry Almond Cake
  • Grain-Free Peanut Butter Apple Cake
  • Dog Friendly Cake

If you prefer treats over cake be sure to check out these 25 easy homemade dog treat recipes .

4. Explore a New Trail With Your Dog

How much does your dog love their daily walk? You can make your walk extra special on their birthday by taking them somewhere brand new. Explore a new hiking trail together, or take them to a new park. To make it even more fun for them remember to give them some extra time to sniff around and take in all those new and exciting smells.

5, Pamper & Spoil Your Dog On Their Birthday

If you want an easy way to make your dog’s birthday extra special make it a doggie spa day by pampering them . Spoil them and give them some extra love and attention on their special day. Give them a nice homemade meal, an extra long walk, a stuffed Kong , a relaxing doggie massage, and some nice cuddle time on the couch.

6. Turn It Into a Game Day

Another fun way to celebrate your dog’s birthday is by turning it into a game day. Rather than celebrating your favorite team together set aside some time to play some extra games with your dog. Our dogs love to play, and engaging in some extra games on their birthday is a simple way to ensure it’s a fun day for them. Some of my favorite doggie games include:

  • Fetch/Frisbee
  • Hide & Seek
  • Food Dispensing Toys
  • Find The Treats

7. Let Your Dog Unwrap a Present

My dog Laika gets a fun new toy on her birthday, and I make the unveiling process a little more exciting for her by letting her unwrap it. If your dog doesn’t have unwrapping experience keep it simple by using a gift bag. Remember to watch them closely — some dogs have a tendency to eat anything in sight, including wrapping paper and shredded bags.

8. Set Up a Doggie Playdate

Another simple way to make your dog’s birthday extra fun is by setting up a doggie playdate for them. Invite your dog’s best dog friend over for some play time. It may seem rather simple, but that one on one play time is really fun (and exhausting) for your dog. Just remember to keep an eye on things, and make sure the dogs have access to fresh water at all times.

9. Take Your Dog For a Swim

Most dogs love to swim, so if you want to make their birthday a fun one turn it into a swim day. You can take your dog to the local beach, or search for any dog friendly pools in your area. Just remember to keep an eye on your dog at all times, and follow the basic swimming safety tips for dogs such as bringing along fresh water and cleaning them off afterwards.

10. Have a Doggie Movie Night

One of my favorite ways to celebrate my dog’s birthday is by having a movie night. Put on your pajamas, make some popcorn, and cuddle up with your dog on the couch and watch some movies together. Bonus points if you watch dog movies.

How do you celebrate your dog’s birthday? Have you ever hosted your own doggie birthday party? Do you wrap your dog’s presents? Does cuddling up on the couch with your dog watching movies sound like a perfect evening, or is it just me?

I think people should do whatever makes them happy, so long as it’s harmless, and there’s no harm in having a little party to celebrate your pet’s existence. Pets are family! For some of us, they’re very important parts of our lives, and that’s worth celebrating. My dog’s birthday* was last week, so I got her some cool toys and gave her extra cuddles while telling her how happy I am that she’s here. I know she doesn’t understand the significance of the date and had no idea what I was saying, but we both had fun and that’s what counts. https://esacare.com/3-mental-health-benefits-of-pets-by-14-famous-pet-lovers/

Hey so I realize this article is a few years old but dogs actually can’t have almonds; seeing a recipe for a cake that’s literally made of almond flour (powdered almonds) is really concerning to me. Dogs cannot digest almonds. It can lead to blockages, pancreatitis, and all sorts of gastrointestinal distress.

I think these are all awesome ideas, especially making a dog birthday cake. My idea is that on a dog’s birthday, they should eat what they want whatever it is. I like to get my puppy a nice steak for his birthday.

Fifteen years before the plot: where the action ramps up, twelve years before the plot: the factions start factioning, seven years ago: enter dazai, six years ago: setting the stage, four years ago: the cracks form, present day: the plot.

Time flows like a river. While it flows, it can also branch out and change course. In the world of anime, there are a lot of different ways that the tides can turn when it comes to the flow of time. Anime loves to mess with the way it presents information and how it flows chronologically. With that in mind, Bungo Stray Dogs has a unique relationship with the concept of time and how it conveys information to the audience.

While the story is mostly linear, the anime jumps around in time quite a bit, and it can make it a little difficult to see what the overall progression from point A to point B has been. To be fair, the anime attempts to convey a story that takes place over many decades (with characters with varying ages and backgrounds), while trying to tie a bunch of loose ends together as each character has their own hidden agenda. Bungo Stray Dogs , in many ways, is structured like a mystery thriller — and that can take a little background, especially with no truly established start date. But, working with what we have, we can make a clear timeline based on important events.

The End Of A War And The Beginning Of A New World

Bungo Stray Dogs 4 Fukuzawa

Every Bungo Stray Dogs Main Character's Age, Birthday, Height, & Zodiac Sign

Bungo Stray Dogs has given a lot of detail to its main characters, many of whom have been given official heights, ages, and birthdays.

While events like births and the meeting of Fukuzawa and Fukuchi happened before this point, this is where a lot of the more major parts of the plot are set up. This is the period where the Great War ended. This was the war that Fukuchi participated in that led to the creation of Decay of Angel, leading Fukuzawa to take on the assassination jobs to end the war, and so much more.

Yosano was forced to bring soldiers back from the brink of death over and over again until they all snapped from constantly being almost killed and, led her to try and kill everyone, including herself. In this same timeframe, Chuuya escaped the military facility where he was being created and the Arahabaki experiments were taking place. These events shaped Bungo Stray Dogs' narrative, showing where a lot of the pieces of the plot came to their seedbed to begin growing.

What Do You Do When A Fourteen Year Old Follows you Home? Start A Detective Agency To Give Him A Job (Totally Normal)

Skipping ahead a bit, things start to get even more interesting. Fukuzawa would have been Mori's bodyguard at the time while insisting on working alone when doing his other jobs. This is easily one of the most important moments in the entire universe of Bungo Stray Dogs, as it is when Ranpo and Fukuzawa meet. While Fukuzawa was something of a loner — a swordsman traveling and never seeming to have a place to settle in — Ranpo too was an orphan, too observant for his own good and constantly being shunned by society.

Ranpo managed to wriggle his way into Fukuzawa's heart, the man being the first to lie to Ranpo about having a special ability and to give him purpose. Fukuzawa was inspired by his collaboration with Ranpo to found the Armed Detective Agency, mainly as a way to give Ranpo a job. Questionably gun-ho behavior for a teenager you scooped off the street aside, this singular moment was more than important for both men as it gave them a home, and helped them to start building their found family. A year later, they would bring Yosano into the fold and Fukuzawa would end his alliance with Mori.

10 Anime Men Hotter Than Gojo From Jujutsu Kaisen

JJK's Gojo might be a handsome sorcerer that melted fans' hearts instantly, but there are plenty of anime men that outshine him with their good looks.

The Port Mafia is one of the most important factions in the entirety of Bungo Stray Dogs, both as opposition and a tenuous ally. This is also where the fan favorite Dazai takes center stage and becomes relevant to the plot. Seven years before the main story, Dazai joins the Port Mafia as Mori's protégé and meets Chuuya for the first time.

While the young men are the same age, — a whopping fifteen years old each — Dazai is participating in his first investigation and ends up meeting the other teen as a result. This is the "Fifteen Arc" in the anime, showing how Dazai ended up recruiting Chuuya and ensuring that the two of them would be annoying each other for almost the next decade.

Dazai Meets His Lost Lenore

Dazai, Oda, and Ango in Bungou Stray Dogs - Wan!

Six years before the start of the main plot, Dazai met Oda Sakunosuke, affectionately dubbed Odasaku by the younger mafioso. This, singularly, would become one of the most important and tragic relationships in Dazai's life. As this is when he joined the Port Mafia (trying to leave behind some of his time as an assassin), Oda and Dazai would grow incredibly close over the course of their friendship. In addition, the Dragon's Head Conflict happened in this same window. Over the course of eighty-eight days, all the underground organizations in Yokohama came to blows after a large sum of money was left in the open air.

As a result of the conflict, Oda would rescue and adopt five orphans who lost their parents in the bloody crossfire, and Chuuya ultimately ended the conflict with his Corruption state. These events made him and Dazai famous in the underworld, securing the Port Mafia's place at the top of the food chain. Having a wealth of power in a dark environment is enough to change multiple lives and perspectives. This conflict was labeled as one of the darkest times for Yokohama. This is also when Dazai found Akutagawa and his sister, bringing them into the Port Mafia.

Lenore Is Lost

Dazai and Odasaku holding each other in Bungou Stray Dogs

Dazai, in the present, carries himself as a suicidal goofball who uses his emotional instability as a smokescreen for his intense intelligence and deep pain. Particular moments such as this created the man Dazai is today, and made him start using his sharp mind for the side of good. Oda Sakunosuke's death is something that haunts Dazai enough that a version of himself in the alternate universe story, BEAST, would die to prevent.

Despite Oda getting one of the coolest fights in the entire series, this was the moment that turned him into Dazai's Lost Lenore — the man still visits his grave to this day. This incident leads to Dazai leaving the Port Mafia for good. Two years later, Dazai joins the Armed Detective Agency, passing the entrance exam and joining the protagonist's fold.

And Everyone Continues To Ignore Atsushi's Haircut

Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, Atsushi Nakajima, Chuuya Nakahara, and Osamu Dazai of anime Bungou Stray Dogs

When Atsushi arrived in Yokohama, it threw the entire balance of the place out of whack. From this point on, the main story of Bungo Stray Dogs takes place as the different arcs come to their fruition. Atsushi and Kyoka become members of the Armed Detective Agency, The Guild comes to Yokohama in pursuit of The Page, Fyodor Dostoevsky becomes a main antagonist and so much more. Bungo Stray Dogs has a lot going on in the main story that is well worth experiencing. The manga itself has yet to come to an end, so there is a lot of time to see where the story goes next.

13. Should I consider my dog’s personality when choosing a birthday gift?

Answer: Absolutely! Consider your dog’s personality, likes, and dislikes when selecting a birthday gift. Choose toys, treats, and activities that align with your dog’s preferences to ensure they enjoy their special day to the fullest.

14. Can I incorporate my dog’s birthday celebration into their training routine?

Answer: Yes! You can use your dog’s birthday celebration as an opportunity to reinforce training cues and commands, such as sit, stay, and come. Incorporate training exercises into the festivities to keep your dog engaged and mentally stimulated on their birthday.

Telegraph District hosts their second annual Pup Crawl

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The Telegraph District hosted their second annual Pup Crawl on Saturday.

This dog-themed bar crawl is designed to raise money for different animal rescue organizations in the Lincoln area through ticket sales, raffle entries and donations.

The Pup Crawl is hosted by four bars in the Telegraph District: Code Beer Company, Craft Axe Throwing Lincoln, Saro Cider and Off Leash Dog Bar.

The Owner of Off Leash Dog Bar, Brandon Akert, teamed up with a friend at Craft Axe Throwing last May to create the Pup Crawl.

According to Akert, their goal was to create a fun event where dogs and owners can play freely, while also finding ways to help rescue animals in the Lincoln area.

“It is a very special tool in order to make sure that dogs are finding the right homes and, you know, dogs that have been surrendered and stuff like that have a better chance,” Akert said.

Guests were able to learn more through the booths set up at the locations by three rescue organizations: Brave Animal Rescue, Nebraska No Kill Canine Rescue and Dolly’s Legacy Animal Rescue.

While dogs may have been their main focus this weekend, these organizations also focus on taking all animals out of shelters and working hard to find them homes.

All of the ticket sales are split between the three rescue’s but they are always taking donations. To learn more about how you can get involved, you can visit:
